I was sceptical about the DIY carb tuner, but seeing it in action proved me wrong. So much easier to read than those bouncing needles.
You just saved me $80 man, I was about to buy those crappy gauges against my better judgement and I’m glad I saw this first. Didn’t wanna do it the old school way but it is what it is lol

Top tip Dan! I have nearly finished my project and I need to sync the carbs after their rebuild. I was dreading having to buy gauges or worse, taking it for someone else to do. Now I will be making my own balancing kit 😊😊😊 Thanks for another great video.
I used to have a colour tune years ago that I used on my old Triumph cars in the 70’s (yes, I am getting on) it was a great tool, glad that they are still around.

If you could do this glass bottle method on your cb 750 that would really help. Trying to sync 4 carbs is a bit of a nightmare.

I am fairly sure if you block off half the air filters your manifold vacuum pressure will rise. My brother built one like that too.

Hi Dan. Great job and bike looks lovely. I'm starting with my second CX500. I bought it in boxes and engine is running now. You are right , the plan is to do all I can myself like the other one. Apart of seat cover and rims sandblasting was all home made..lol and it's great to see it hen is finished. Thanks a lot for all the ideas. Some one has already posted this but, you can also take off the air filters and use a tub to listen to the air entering theough the mouth of the crabs. Not the best but is quick and will get you close!

Excellent video man, newly subscribed. I'm in QLD too ~ been working on balancing the throttle bodies on my Ducati 1098, your vid helps a lot as I had similar 'low' vacuum at idle, I thought it was way off but seems it's typical.
A note on the vacuum gauge set - I have exactly the same one. I found that a great fix is to drill through those brass valve bodies, cut off the o-ring portion of the valve adjustment plugs and loctite them in. Then fit in-line plastic aquarium flow valves and use them to steady the gauge fluctuations. Works absolutely perfectly. I can send pics if you like, hard to explain!

My gauges are the same as in the vid, but came with the plastic flow valves, as you say works just fine..
Had this same experience making one of these, tried using plastic bottles and they caved in right away. I ended up using 2 wine bottles which worked great since you can put a pretty good amount of water in them. glad you think they are accurate as I don t have the actual kit to compare to and was considering buying one just to see.

Onya mate. Just discovered your channel.
I set them up on a RD with a lollipop stick under the slides.as the slides lifted the sticks dropped. Worked for me. Then exactly 1-1/4 turns out for the air screw. Plug chops were identical. Long long time back and I didn't own any workshop equipment so had to improvise. An old bloke showed me how to do it. When he said go find 2 lolly sticks at the roadside I thought he was pulling my leg. turned out he rode bikes from the 30s to the 60s and owned all the British twins. BSA. norton. triumph. RE. villiars. AJS. Matchless. He had them all but wife's and children meant a car was needed so the bikes had to go. he didn't like the Japanese bikes and kept telling me to buy a BSA gold star. I wish I had taken his advice now but I was young and knew everything. ha.
Wicked vid man, I'll def put this to use. Just curious on your opinion on something, I've got an oldschool Triumph 1200 (cardbed) and I changed the exhaust from the stock restrictive cans, to some straight through mufflers, and I'm a bit worried it's running lean now. Would you say I should be adjusting the clips, or would the fuel/air mixture screw work fine to increase fuel?

You could try add a smaller ID piece of tubing into the lines near the carbs to act as a dampener to help with fluctuations. But I would have thought this would be included in your kit. Looking forward to see your colortune video!
Thanks you for the video. My bike is fuel injected can I use the bottle method to sync my throttle bodies?
I did this myself last year and it works really good. However everytime I tighten the nut I get the wrong balance so you might need to keep that in mind when you adjust the screw. If your sync gauges are hard to read you'll have to decrease the air flow in the tubes with some kinde of a nipple or an Aquarium air regulator.
If there isn't one already, put a little collar with a screw around the tube you use with the gauges (like the ones found in electrical connectors strips) and tighten it so that you restrict airflow enough to stabilize the needle. I built myself both the bottles and the thing with the gauges and that's how I made the needle stop vibrating erratically.
Why do you use these bottles? I am doing it only with a long transparent hose, mounted on a bord. Precondition is, that the carbs ar not far away from a passably snchronisation. On my old R100GS it works better than any flow meters. First in running idle, than with a little pulled throttle. Hope my english fits...

Dumb question....How do you connect the other end of the tubing to the engine/carbs? You didn't show either? Obviously I am not a mechanic or a gear head but I find your videos fascinating and to me another form of art.
I had that same issue with the carbs staying high then coming back after a bit, The idle was set too lean, that caused the problem. Try to enrich the idle a little and that should fix that part of it.

Thanks for the video, clever method, but you still need the probes from the purchased kit. So if you have to buy a full dial kit anyway, it's not really budget, is it?
Depends the bike. I didn't need the probes.
I've an idea for the guy making these videos. How about a don't do it like this and this is a common mistake people often make video. Not being cheeky your vids are very good but a ”don't do it like this” section kind of makes sense. Most people try to do home mechanics so a guide of mistakes people often make would help a lot.

Can you do it with a 4 cylinder bike? Awesoem video tho!!
In theory you could, with 4 connected bottles. The goal is to stop the movement of the water levels. this means that all carbs "suck" evenly. But because it will slowly start sucking water when out of balance on 4 carbs now, it will be a difficult process to balance all 4 of them without the engine drinking a bit of fish-fuel. But if you're patient and careful enough, it is definitely possible!! Maybe use a bigger bottle?

If you've done a THOROUGH cleaning job on the carbs & you know the bench sync is perfect & you're doing the running sync & your needle still reads low (in the red zone), it would probably be wise to check your valve clearances (cam to shim)-My experience is, before even trying to sync a carb rack, make sure all your valves are in spec before you do........it will save you some $$$ on Tylenol......

I don't recall you mention anything that lets you know when the carbs are balanced. When the carbs ARE balanced the fluid levels will NOT change. You stopped turning the screws when each bottle had the same amount of fluid and that would have NOTHING to do with synchronizing vacuum.
www.jetsrus.com have every jet you need. My experience with podfilters is not that positive, I must say. A pipe between carb and filter to create a distance sometimes helps out. Just 3-5 cm will do the trick.
