    Hi ! I just did the oil change on a 1991 Bayou 300 that I inherited... When I got the oil filter out, there was no metal shaft in the oil filter ??? When I looked on Ronnie's parts you can actually see the shaft in the parts diagram... a friend gave me a dead Bayou 300 frame and there was the motor still in there... I took the metal shaft from the oil filter that was in the dead quad... Should I continue running the Bayou without the metal shaft or should I put the metal shaft back in ? What is the metal shaft's purpose in the quad ? Thankx !

      Sorry, probably too late, but YES!! (assuming it is the same length and fits nicely) A lot of guys throw them away with the filter and just stick the new filter in without the tube. Not good at all. I have seen many Kawasaki (mostly KLRs) without this tube, and it usually means the filter is just bathing in the oil as it flows around it and through the middle. Not filtering anything.

    • @JustPlainCommonSense
      @JustPlainCommonSense  Před 8 lety

      +Micheal Curry That can be tricky. Even harder to explain without pictures! Ill try to post one next time I'm in the carb. I do remember there is a keyway on the choke slide that makes it difficult to line up in the carb. Depress the throttle fully when trying to screw the chock cable to the top of the carb. They really could have made that design easier to work on!

      The oil isn't getting filtered without it. It likely got thrown away at some point so you need to order a replacement shaft. Here is a link to the parts breakdown:
