  • In this short video I correct a major mistake that was rightly pointed out to me in the last one - and don't I feel a fool for not realising that mistake, but a grateful thank you to those that did mention it. A quick up date, a running session and a question at the end which I would really like some views on and all will be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Steve, well the trains seem to be running really nicely, worth all the testing and you can get on with other bits and pieces with them running without stopping to put the trains back on.
I’m hoping to create a beach scene myself a bit like at Dawlish one day! I see everyone one has put you onto Paul, Marklin of Sweden and Kathy Millet, also try Boomer’s Diorama’s for some inspiration too, he does some excellent work!
    Cheers for now mate, John

Hi Steve - your doing the right thing in testing, testing and testing again ! Far easier to fix track before it's ballasted. If your looking for a beach theme try looking at Paul Sheedy and his Wickford N gauge layout where he has a station call Pawlish not Dawlish - amazing beach scene amongst other cracking scenery. Cheers Euan

Thanks Euan - yes it was Paul's beach scene that inspired my, and as my home town of Port Talbot has its own beautiful beach of Aberavon where I spent many a happy hour there as a child I wanted to pay a nod to it. As for ballasting - I think I am going to leave that to the very last job on any of the scenes.
      Regards

Morning Steve! Great to see all of the trains running so smoothly in the running session! Paul's beach scene at Pawlish in Wickford is a great example, and I'd second his suggestions about taking a look at Kathy Millet's and Marklin of Sweden's channels! Both have some great content that you can take inspiration from to model the beach scene you're after! Good luck! All the best, Ian.

Thanks Ian - yes I have already been checking Pauls' work out and will be looking at those channels.

Hi Steve, You certainly have got the track working nicely and I do like shot of of the train coming down the hill, into the dip and out the other side (6.30). When the scenics are applied that will look great.
As for your question about the beach, I say go for it. Paul Sheedy has done one which works really well and watching Michael at Chandwell do his river may help with the water.
Beyond my capabilities for certain. It might not work for you first time but we have all tried to do something, ripped it out and started again, it's part of the learning process.
The one thing I found to be really good was having The ability to run your trains and work on the layout. The miles some of my earlier purchases must have done does want thinking about.
Rule 1 and enjoy it !
    See You next time.

Cheers Mark and thanks for that compliment, Yes I have been watching both channels which is why I am going to attempt it. The great thing about our hobby and You Tube is that there is a lot of advice and support out there for any one to have a go. Again I appreciate your support and comments so please keep them coming. (the dip was a total accident but I quite like it for now!)
      Regards

Enjoyed the running session Steve, especially where the little shunter seemed to be catching the Castle. Brave man to have so many trains running at once. It takes some concentration to do that. It's good that you've got the track tested and running well. That will repay dividends over time. I think the beach scene sounds a great idea, a bit like the line at Dawlish. It will give a nice focal point at the front as the trains run past above. Stephen

Thank you Stephen - the shunter really does whizz around but it will not be on the main tracks as I just wanted to run it in and demonstrate how good it was. The shunter will live on the TMD / fiddle yard where it should have been last year if the blasted micro chip had been available!

Greetings Steve 🐲👋 You now know why Mr Ireland is called the "National Treasure" 😇 what he doesn't know is not worth knowing 😉 Definitely try out your rocky coast 👍 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 has some incredible real life inspiration 😍 Marklin of Sweden and Kathy Millet do fantastic tutorials on creating coastal scenery 👌 Very best wishes from the Emerald Isle ☘️

Thanks for the tips on the channels - I knew about Marklins but not Kathy Millet so will check that one out. (The honourific should be Sir not Mr by the way!).

Good on you Sion. I managed to pick up a load of old N scale track at the local Model shop - just needed cleaning up but got enough to complete the next track for about £20. Its the points that I find break the budget lol.

Hi Steve i know you like doing alot of your own scenery but for you break water woodlands scenery do bags off different size rock and they are already painted you may want to look at. Another thing is sculpture mould and you would be able to roll it into all different size rock then paint them. Colin

Cheers Al - next job is laying the third track and that will be at a slow pace as I have two points to include as well. I am enjoying watching the locos run around too much to rush this one!
