They somehow managed to, in one patch:
-Take the worst character in the game and overtune him into being broken
-Take the best character in the game and buff her again
-Take the second worst character in the game and nerf her
-Buff the ammo on a support hero who should almost never be shooting outside of their ult...where they get infinite ammo
-And drop a brand new character then immediately buff the counterpicks to him
This has gotten way too many replies, I'm tempted to just delete this comment so I don't have to deal with all this incessant noise

his normal punch has a quarter second stun, and they nerfed the charge punch stun.....
You are totally wrong ,they want stuns and control on tank that's all and that's what they are doing, there is only one tank so it's not unplayable

All this in a game where an entire team battle can be fought and won in under 5 seconds.
@@heythisisntxboxrl5174 doesn't matter. Hook is a stun for 0.1 seconds.( it only stuns on impact). Any stun cancels abilities and ults. This new doom feels very tedious to play against. So far I'm enjoying season 2 a lot less.
The fact that they decided to increase the hit box on the tank with the lowest health out of all the other tanks is so baffling to me.
thats because half the time you couldnt tell if it was a 200 hp ashe or a 450 hp junkerqueen that youre about to attack. People whinning over the single most reasonable change ever is the baffling part. Junkerqueen literally got buffed too in this same patch or did people just forget that.

Yeah she needs more buffs but she REALLY needs a bigger hitbox & a bigger model to be a tank. Or just make her a dps instead lmao
@@adammk8473 What's reasonable about it? Junker queen was actually balanced. That's why she's bottom tier in a game full of unbalanced garbage. If you can't tell Ashe from Queen, that's a you problem. The hitboxes are already broken enough.

It feels like the “nerf to sojourn” was more of a lower the skill ceiling, rather than actually “de-buffing” her.
The ult change certainly was. Skilled players were already wiping teams with the previous charge rate, now low level players get a better chance to do the same.

ok i tried out some stuff with sojourn and i dont think the change is much of a buff at all. While her ult railgun charges faster, and you get to shoot more (7 shots total if you start with 100 i think) she doesnt solokill anymore, so she either needs 2 shots, or random damage from her, and because she has a delay between primary and secondary fire, she only gets to kill 3 to 4 targets herself (depending on hp pool of heroes), and only of played perfectly aimwise ( and targets not getting healed inbetween shots). So on paper she gets the same amount of kills, but increases the skilllevel she needs to solokill. How much of an actual nerf it is, i dont know, because she still pierces and stuff, but she is less of a threat herself and like you said might need a mercy now and of course you always have the rest of the team too. So this might actually just a slight sideways change to sojourn in higher ranks, but a straight nerf in lower ranks and i dont think thats what they were going for. but generally think that having the team build around her more is still a good change so she isnt a must pick in every situation at least.

@@deusex9731 It's kind of a buff. Like, who is just railgun dueling all the time? It's literally now just changed to charge the rail, and now those same targets you hit while charging are free to one shot. It's less of farm it up on tank and more like farm tank switch target get 100 shoot, or even shoot target, get to 50 and aim at head and shoot. I'm literally deleting people. Don't forget your teammates are probably shooting people too, no one is 100% health all the time.
How do we riot in Overwatch?
As a support main, last season was a struggle already with all the backline targeting from Winstons and Sombras and not having any CC to deal with it ourselves. Now that we'll have Doomfists, Roadhogs, more Tracers, and still not a single bone thrown for us, it's gonna be miserable. The meta's really shifting to have everyone dive the supports since the divers are getting buffed and the supports are only getting nerfed. I will say, though, I think even with the Kiriko nerf, she'll still be one of the best supports. I'm used to Rally, so I don't worry about the ult cost increase, and the cooldown reduction will still be amazing. The main bonus, at least in my games, has been the attack speed increase. Just that alone swings every game I've had with a Kiriko in it
Meanwhile, me as mercy getting chased by a genji the entire teamfight as I both dodge him and support the team, waiting for someone to actually deal with him, I feel this. But as Doomfist player I just want to have fun using my mobility to cross the map in seconds and not get flamed for not picking a different tank ... even tho ever since I've figured how to play doom to what feels like a decent level to me, I've been kind of farming upvotes, since I seem to win more matches than I lose ... so this might be funny for people that know how to just APPEAR behind the enemy team out of nowhere, or die, respawn and reach the teamfight so fast you'd think the respawn was next to the point, now that stun is back on regular punch and the cooldowns are even lower.
I agree, what am I gonna do with a single sleep dart with a 14 second cooldown as Ana against a tracer, doomfist, and a sobra diving on top of me. The nade doesn’t do much other than keep me alive maybe 2 seconds longer than I would’ve lasted anyway.
Yeah, Kiriko feels built for overwatch 2. Meanwhile Zenyatta, Ana, Brigitte are going to be nearly unplayable. There are already the least support characters and now they are narrowing down the field of playable ones to only those with good mobility 👍

I played against a doom not knowing he had been buffed. He built like 6 ults before they capped 2nd point. Then he switched orisa for no reason and I gasped a sigh of relief
I love how they didn't want to buff Ball because he's "on a knife's edge of balance" but they'll give Doom every buff known to man to force him into the meta.
Before this patch I thought ball was worse than Doomfist. After this patch I know ball is worse than Doomfist.

I thank you, Flats, for acknowledging that, as a Mercy main, this buff is just... no. Please, if you can, don't let this slip under the limelight because I don't think Blizzard will adjust her anytime soon based purely off of Skiesti's recommendations and outcry on r/mercymains. I hope you manage to find this comment and thank you, your content manages to help put many of these patches into perspective for me.

i always thought that mercy as "main" healer - should deserve something to heal better tanks - maybe instead hp/s it should be % max health or something, atleast during valk
I would like some kind of Res buff, not huge but something like a damage reduce during the animation, cooldown or reduced time to complete the res

@@THE1TRAVELERmy older brother is/was soft stuck in bronze. He was a plat player in OW1 and hung in Diamond lobbies with me and my buddies. In OW2 he got ranked bronze, he pushed to high silver gold right before season 1 ended and got put back down into bronze with the new season lmao.

Don't know why they didn't just make it to where Sojourn couldn't get charged unless she connected shots with enemies instead of both enemies and shields, slow the charge time, but slightly increase primary fire like they did. That way players have more risk to hit their shots or else they have to work back up for the shot.
I like this idea as a Sojourn main
IMO I think junkerqueen could've had healing doubled, especially after hitbox changes. Or keep current healing and add something like 2% mitigation per bleeding target. The damage mit calculations would be odd with lower dmg ticks but her current changes are a joke. Also the mercy buff also doesn't make sense when she has auto loading, emptying an increased mag is extremely unlikely.
If anything, the swap speed might be useful once or twice a game.
My team can have like, 30 more damage per game now!
not to mentiom, if Mercy does need to shoot in self-defense, her clip was already big enough 99% of the time if you are anything above poptato

The only good things about Junker Queen were that her hitbox was smaller than other tanks, and her ult was good (without an enemy Kiriko anyway) but now both those things got nerfed. I’m confused
Actually JQ ult got buffed. She deals the same amount of dmg but quicker and gets her ultimate faster as well

as a mercy main I see the lowered swap time as a small quality of life change, however- using the pistol outside ult is very rare and since the ult grants inf ammo i saw the ammo increase as a no brainer. Also i dont see 5 more rounds help me any bit in 1v1 genji. A 5% shooting speed increase would have changed stuff a bit or atleast while valkyrie active.
Just so you know, something being a “no-brained” means it is obvious, so obvious it’s a “no-brainer”. I’m assuming that’s the opposite of what you meant :)
I’ve been a mercy main since S7 and recently I’ve started to say fuck it and use my pistol a lot more, consistently getting 2-3k damage with a little less healing, it’s honestly very fun and I think it’s a better way to play Mercy if you find a good balance. You definitely feel like you have a lot more agency on your games when you’re helping getting kills, and enemies won’t expect you to actually shoot them

Big fan of the new wrecking ball changes. Also think support is finally going to be super fun, love the Zen change to give him a new movement ability so it doesn’t take 50 seconds to get back to your team and play the game after getting one shotted by the entire meta. That new Ana buff to her sleep dart is going to rock the meta, 1 whole second is about the amount of time it takes for Soujorn to get her ult now, so she’s clearly going to need to lose the whole sleep dart next patch, I think they will also have to halve her movement speed and healing output because she’s going to have a really high pro level impact on the match. Mercy is straight up busted now. Support is just so fun this season. Soujorn has clearly been deleted from the game, that 30% ult decrease is just going to tank her viability at all levels by increasing her damage output. What a great patch

The fact we now get balances far slower than the last game without them being a marked increase is absolutely dire tbh. I've barely touched OW2 since early november at this point cause frankly other things have came out and/or gotten updates in the time it took them to figure out how to actually have a full hero roster in game without gamebreaking bugs.
As a support main since the early days of ow1, I'm honestly astounded how the overwatch team constantly manages to keep making this role less and less fun to play and it's really painful to watch

@@czar17_28 they nerfed kiriko and the only buffs were ana got 1s less on her sleep and mercy got a pistol buff, which she shouldn't use. if the negatives outweigh the positives it affects supports negativley.
The fact that they buffed the second best counter to Ramattra the moment they dropped them makes this even funnier, see y’all in season 3

Not by a long shot. If Support was a role ppl avoided before, now literally nobody wants to play them. All Roles = Support even more than season 1.

The only way to get into games will be to play support, queue times for tanks will be 25 minutes minimum and dps still 10-15 mins, support will be under a minute still
The worst part about all of this: Queue times are going to get worse. Legitimately, who is going to want to play support into superdoom and buffed sojourn, while they themselves got non-buffs or nerfs. I think power-wise, supports are in a good place but the problem is that Blizzard desperately needs to get people to *want* to play support for the sake of enjoying support play, not through some artificial "Bonus EXP reward" crap, and instead we've got another patch of supports being the least exciting series of changes. You bet your ass there's going to be a ton more tank players, though.
I was playing Doom for like 3 weeks season 1, all he needed was a damage buff. Doom should be mid at best, good players will always shine on him, bad players normally just die. Superdoom creates the issue of low skill ceiling, which doesn't work for the character, and it also ruins the support experience, because support is normally the easiest to pick off because they have to play carefully, and can be quickly isolated. Can't wait for people to complain to me about Doom when I took time to master him to a point, yet now someone can just never touch pc and play him.
As a Kiriko main, I will remain stalwart. Also, I very much enjoy her couple QoL buffs. Her ult was op, but now it's just good. A sold ult that can still win teamfights if used correctly.
And honestly, Doom doesn't seem _that_ scary. He needed quite a few of those buffs, specifically the ult and overhealth ones.
The „bonus XP“ you get from playing support is so laughable. 100XP is quite literally nothing. You would have to play 100 games on support to actually get a level out of the „bonus“
like support us fine powerwise except for some who need adjustments but its so unfun :/

I was just talking about this with a friend and laughing about how Soujourn's "nerfs" sounded awfully like buffs to me.
I kinda feel like Junker Queen’s changes show the main problem with the balancing Philosophy going on here. Queen got a buff to her survivability through Shout Cooldown and Wound Healing, but then immediately got a nerf to Survivability with a bigger hit box. Like do the changes even do anything except make her counters stronger against her as they can hit easier?
As someone who fell in love with Mercy's playstyle, I agree that this is only going to encourage bad playstyles and does NOTHING to make her more viable: no rez cancel, no dmg boost increase, no beam attachment distance buff, NOTHING useful, just +5 ammo and a faster switch to the thing you'll use less than 2% of your playtime...
I really like the fast weapon switch, sometimes I'll accidentally switch but now I can bring back the beam almost instantly. Also I use the pistol to kill 1-2 players per game, especially with ult obvs.

@@Riokv well those two, torb, and cas especially because they can gun down tanks a lot faster than most characters. Torb and reaper can land more shotgun pellets, sojourn has an easier time landing all her shots and rail, and cas can fan>nade>roll>fan very quickly on her

That is if reapers shotguns randomly do like no damage
Sojourn's railgun doesn't increase charge based off damage. If they were to change how quickly she built her railgun, it would have to be through changing her firerate or the actual amount of charge each shot gives. Currently, each shot still only gives 5 charge per body shot, and they didn't change her firerate so she is getting her railgun at the same rate as before, outside of her ult
Damage boost gives more rail charge, and damage reduction seems to give less rail charge.
Hey Flats! Thanks for breaking this down for us casual players and giving perspective on the changes. I read the notes before watching your video, but of course can't see the exact repercussions or how they help or hurt other characters that were not mentioned in the patch.
Omg Ana's buff is huge, now I can miss my sleep 1 second sooner, I'm glad they listened to player feedback and gave healers the buff they deserved
Get ready for that nerf coming in completely getting rid of ana's sleep dart but keeping the dart ability in so you only do 5 damage and no sleep.

@@bobhotpocket1875 That's too much, now they will remove Ana's ability to do damage and only heal instead. Also the heal is much slower now so it actually heals over time instead of burst so everyone you heal will pretty much die.
I hate how they feel the need to counter every buff with a nerf and every nerf with a buff. Sojourn needed straight nerfs to every part of her kit, but they were too scared to do that. And yes, you see Sojourn at all ranks, from plat to high Masters she dominates all the same.
Heck she even dominates in fcking gold. And people in gold can barely aim
she dominates my gold games. its not like top 500 but me and my friends call her the "ez win character".

Yea in each tier while I was ranking up last season she was dominant. Sure she definitely got better as I got up, but even in Bronze and Silver she'd always land that one-tap

As a console ladder player who solo queues, Soujourn feels so much better. The 1 tap wasn't uber consistent for console before and just the net increase of consistent damage is so insane. Charging rail gun off of tanks feels better than ever and the majority of her damage comes from primary fire, so it's wild. I didn't know tracer was getting a buff until I played her yesterday and wow does the damage change do so much for her, even for a mid player

Correction: JQ's Rampage doesn't do any less damage, they just decreased the amount of time it takes to do its full damage. They count Wound duration and damage statistics independently. It seems like they use (total damage)/duration instead of damage*duration.
I'm also not 100% on the hitbox changes, but what's somewhat helpful is that her hitbox isn't as big as some other tanks. 12% of 7 = 0.84, 12% of 10 = 1.2. This means that a hitbox change on her may not be as big of a deal as a hitbox change on Rein or Hog, for instance. 12% extra hitbox is still pretty bad, but maybe not as bad as we think?

Still imo an overall nerf cause I’d much rather have the full 4 seconds of anti heal than for my damage to come out faster
@@tekwizwa Depends on how heavy the dmg is. Sometimes you want longer sustained healing, other time you want a bigger burst-like amount
The 35% reload speed after a kill is especially nice for ashe. I just reload instantly after a kill and those 8-12 shots are back in no time

Good on ashe but scary on other characters like sojourn who had a short reload time to begin with or tracer who had an almost instant reload time who now also has a dps buff.

13:54 For context, in case you guys don't believe this is a nothing change... Ashe's scoped left-click does full damage out to 30 meters before she starts experiencing damage falloff. Sojourn's nerfed right-click has a 25% longer effective range than an actual sniper.

@@laflemmeinfuse5443 She's the 3rd longest range hitscan character in the game behind Ana (#1 with 0 falloff) and Widowmaker (#2 at 70 meter falloff). Most maps you won't even notice she has a damage falloff, and I'd say her playstyle is pretty close to sniping.

I think the wound duration decrease on Junkerqueen just means that the 100 bleed damage are dealt faster, but same amount. At least thats how I understanded it.

@@SoulX81201 Zen IS supposed to be a glass cannon, his dmg is the highest in the game already and his HPs are mostly shield so they go to max in a second of not being hit. The only problem he has are his insanely large hitboxes, dude's a Support with the hitboxes of a Tank

As a kiriko main, i found JQ the easiest tank by far to kill on your own and now with an even bigger headbox it'll be childs play. I dont understand why they thought the "buffs" balanced it out

JQ is a close range brawl character without armor like rein, without a brawly shield like Winston, without a big health pool like hog, without crowd control like nearly every other tank, without the mobility to engage and disengage for free, and in exchange you get to inflict a debuff that can a.) Heals you for less than what doom's passive generates on average over 3 seconds, b.) Can be cleansed by the other new hero that they released. Brilliant. If she wasn't so much fun to play it would be so much more miserable

As a Doom main it would be nice if they focused his kit more on complex mobility like In OW1 and rewarding Doom players for chaining good combos but his fate was sealed when they decided to make him a tank. He’ll probably get nerfed by mid season patch or even before. His character is in a weird position right now because if they nerf him he’ll essentially be right back where he was last season but if they leave him how he is he’s going to dominate at most ranks no matter what.

Like it moira was ulting, you can stop her you with a regular doom punch. So are there 2 separate instances of a “stun”. Like the disrupt, and then the .25 second stun?

I'm a support main and I will tell you I'm pretty pissed with overwatch 2 so far. Last season I got the bronze 5 glitch. I climbed from bronze 5 to plat 1. Then while plat 1 consistently got placed with silver teammates and just got flat out diffed while I performed highly. Of course I had some off games but a majority of my plat loses came from having under ranked teammates. I ended the season at gold 1. The new season starts and it has placed me silver 2. And now I have to climb through all this bullshit?!? Wtf man

You can have enemies that are roughly your rank while you're expected to carry team mates who are under-ranked. I don't know if this is a plat-and-below thing, but it's most definitely going on. How do I know that? Because you end up on both sides of it - distressingly often fighting teams where there's only one good player.

I love the push game mode because its a quick way to 20 losses
The bleed duration change on queens ult is a buff. it still does 100 bleed, but it deals that damage/self heal faster.
The map situation is pretty bad. We get one new map, a few cosmetic face lifts on old maps. Mean while two maps are gone, some maps are broken or bugged and thus removed. We also lost all the 2cp maps... I am pretty sure we still have less maps now than we did in OW1.

I was already depressed playing support. Knowing we won't get a patch for 3 weeks plus 2 delays isn't making it feel better either.
When I saw Ramattra what I liked about him was simply the ult. It was the only ability in the entire game that reduces enemy damage. For everyone. This was so good, the skills were not so great, but just the good itself made the tank *good*. Now they have removed that, so it's useless...

Dude, I feel your pain. I started playing doom with the start of OW2 for two reasons: 1) I've always been a bad dps player, but played a lot of the tank role. 2) I always wanted to play doom because its gameplay seemed amazing to me
But after I started my journey, I was constantly bullied by people around who did not even want to try to play with my character, and always yelled at me to switch (and this was in a quick game, I did not even open the comp once). It was very sad, but I put up with it because I always hated playing meta-shit. Now I'm going to feel guilty and again be bullied all the time, but this time by enemies who will tell me I'm playing a shitty meta character. This development team really doesn't understand how to balance their game at all.

We got the old WoW balance team on this thing? No attempt to actually BALANCE the game, just a deliberate musical chairs of who is the best at any given time?

17:12 based on what’s in the patch notes, her railgun doesn’t charge faster (when not in ult) overclock is really only her ult and I think the railgun charge through primary fire is based on hit projectiles and not damage. So her normal railgun charge time isn’t effected at all
It is actually based on damage. You can see this in effect in custom games in bossfight games, if the boss has like 50% damage taken applied to them your railgun will charge really slowly. 😉
So i wasn't the only one who thought the Doomfist buffs sounded crazy. Like Doomfist mains were already annoying at times, the only problem really was their tankiness and utility as tank, but this is just more DPS tank..

Soujorn did not need the increase from 9 to 10 damage on her primary. Her damage being reduced starting at 40 meters is still too much. 25 meters was more than enough.

I think the Stun on base Punch was unnecessary. I think most people agreed that empowered Punch should be more impactful easier to get with Block.
Orisa javelin stuns people everytime they hit a wall and that has infinite range. Doom punching someone into a wall should definitely have a slight stun also
I feel like they should’ve buffed brig in this meta considering the emphasis is going to be on jumping the supports. They should’ve given her more tools to defend the other support that way it alleviates the focusing on supports AND gives Brig more reason to be played.
They literally could've either buffed her primary damage by as little as 3-5 dmg per swing or given her the worlds smallest stun/slow on her shield bash and it wouldve made a world of difference. I'm a brig main and I'm terrified that I'm gonna become a sitting duck for doomfist once my cooldowns are gone

The dmg is inflicted faster but the antiheal time is shorter
I would say the 0.5 sec of anti is more valuable than going from 20 bleed/sec to 22.22 bleed/sec

The thing I despise with balance changes is the give and take. They'll buff a character and then nerf them too. I get it, so they aren't overwhelming. Doom is a prime example of giving a buff and not a nerf.
On the contrary, JQ is a good example of why it's bad, too. If they had just given her the buffs and not the hitbox increase, I genuinely don't think anyone would've batted an eye.
But for some reason, it's always gotta be one positive with a negative. Maybe I just don't understand, I'm a low rank pleb so what do I know?
The JQ changes were not a good example of give and take balancing. Usually you balance by nerfing one aspect of a character and buffing a different aspect to shift the character's direction without crippling the character itself. The issue with blizzard doing this method of balancing is that they are only doing 2 balance changes per season, so they have to squeeze as many changes into each patch so they can get feedback for the next change in the season. This often results in character's being too strong or too weak until the next patch.
I can't imagine how frustrating being an OW2 pro must be. Long queue times, push, playing with and against Soujurn + Kiriko + Lucio/Mercy every match, the tiny map pool and now this.

@@bobhotpocket1875 a .25 second stun is nearly indistinguishable from the regular interrupt on punch, and the reduction on his empowered stun to .75 gives squishies a better chance to not get combo'd 100 to 0 without being able to respond.

The new map is pretty harsh for some characters. Lots of flanks, lots of high ground and super high skybox. Problem is if your hero doesn't have a lot of mobility it's a nightmare. Never mind it is a payload maps so at least one person has to be in those crowded streets with a million flanks possible to pick them off.
I have a feeling attack is just going to suck with it.

@@BenutzernameXY Well one of the problems with 5v5, some one has to push the cart. There is only one tank, so getting them to be on the cart is near impossible and usually a waste.
DPS never liked touching the cart even in Ow1, maybe if your lucky a ashe/widow might snipe from the cart but in general it has to be a support player. Given that most fights are far from the cart, if you want any impact at all it has to be a ranged support user like Ana or Bap.

I'd like to see them give her Armor in her base HP if they're going to make her hitbox bigger. She's still the only tank without that sort of thing.
Could also change her Ultimate windup to be able to block projectiles in front of her or something for skill expression and some form of protection in her kit, again being the only tank without that.

No armor, Commanding Shout needed at every occassion because she has no other defensive tools and her ult´s windup being so incredibly slow and obvious that it gets cancelled like 7 out of 10 times but that self-heal that´d be a unique aggro-tank passive is useless.
Blizzard really thought 1.25x would mean shit when she heals on average 700-1000 at most in a match
