  • Here I look at the single channel version of the Cornerstone Gladio Preamp/overdrive, talking about it's features and demonstrating a variety of settings. I also do a demo playing to a backing track to show how it sounds in a mix. I'm playing my 2015 Paul Reed Smith Standard 24 with Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro humbuckers.

    I got one last year. It sounds great by itself, but I like stacking it with my Warm Audio Centavo (Klon clone,) and One Control Persian Green Screamer for SRV tones. I play a G&L S-500 Tribute with Seymour Duncan SSL-2 and SSL-6 pickups installed for a more Strat-like tone. Blues Nirvana!

      Nice. Honestly, 80% of the time I’m just straight into the amp, so when I use a pedal, I’m mainly looking for one that sounds and feels like my amp is louder than it is. The vast majority of my major influences just cranked their amps. This pedal does that better than most I’ve tried, and I’ve tried a lot over the years. But yeah, if something required more drive I could hit my Klon clone and I’m sure that’d work well for the occasional blues/rock kinda thing. Thanks so much for watching.

    I see your Freddie King t shirt, I saw him in a small club I worked at in 1971, at that time I didn’t even know who he was, just a blues act we booked, that was my introduction into the real blues, I was into groups like Quicksilver, Canned Heat…he made a big impression. Still think the music from that era was the best, but I’m old man now so I guess that’s normal.

      @leonardgriffieblues5845  Před 4 měsíci

      Sadly I never got to see him live. I worked with a friend who opened for him a few times back in the 70s. In fact, the guitar player in his old band ended up in Freddie’s band. He’s one of my many important influences.
      Thanks so much for watching.

    Your "mix" setting, reminded me of the tone Ben Benay got through his '63 Deluxe. His had a hotrod output transformer, but he played straight in. Great live sound. I love how this pedal enriches the sound, but still has that straight in vibe, and sidesteps that (to me) awful blues rock midrange churn. Clean and clear and full as hell, like that hotrod Deluxe on 10. Really good, can't wait to hear it live. Shades of King Albert!

      I hadn’t thought of that since the PRS shape is the same for most of the double cuts. But with the classic cherry finish and that black pickguard, I can see what you mean. Thanks for watching.

    Cool! Would love to give this a shot! For me my 2 'grab 'em if the house is burning down' are my Effectrode Blackbird Valve Pre-Amp Pedal ('Dumblish) and my Kiwi buddy Paul Crowther's Double Hot Cake - perfect alone or paired up with several optional tones at the push of a foot-switch and lotsa fine-tuning on board.

    This IS better than the Dude and the Euphoria. This has more definition on both the bridge and neck pickups but I noticed that it did pinch harmonics more clear with great character when you dug in harder.

  • @RocktCityTim

    Love the ability to mix the clean (assuming "dry") signal. I'd bounced between most expected suspects in my OD work ... and then I got mys hands on MXR's "Timmy" pedal. Of course, being named after me was a plus, but the ability to separate the bass and treble cuts in the wet side provided me with some sonic options that just aren't there in other ODs. This ability to mix clean into the output is similar in giving a broader harmonic presence than a simple TS or OD.

    • @leonardgriffieblues5845
      @leonardgriffieblues5845  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes, the Timmy is a fine pedal. I have a Janray clone that fills that spot. I do tend to gravitate toward the Dumble style drives and the J Rocket Dude was my previous favorite. But having the clean control does take it up a notch.
      Thanks for watching.

      @aleonyohan6745 Před 3 měsíci

      What settings do you use on your Timmy? I have one but I'm basically just using it as a clean boost. But maybe I'm not using it to its full potential.

    • @RocktCityTim
      @RocktCityTim Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@aleonyohan6745 Remember that the Treble and Bass controls are cuts, not adds, so at full, they are sending the signal through untouched. You then use them to cut the amount passed through to set the tonality. I start with near 0 Gain and adjust the volume so that the signal is pushing the amp a bit. I then up the Gain to get the 'grrr' component where I want it.

    I suggest trying the Queen of tone for about $110 which is a far better pedal with two channels that you can blend or play separately. For me the right side is the perfect blend for blues with single or double coils.Very simple to use with volume tone and gain for each channel. I bought my first guitar in 1963. I am 74 now. Love the blues. I play a Strat and 335.

    • @leonardgriffieblues5845
      @leonardgriffieblues5845  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I’m not sure I’d agree with “far better pedal”, but it’s certainly an option. I’m assuming this has to be a King of Tone copy. Ultimately it’s always what speaks to you.
      Funny enough, I got my first guitar in 1963 as well. I was 12 and my dad was a pro player who knew I wanted a Fender but didn’t play Fenders himself so he bought me a Jazzmaster. I played that thing through my first pro work until I traded it in on a new Strat in 1970. Wish I had either of those back.
      Thanks so much for watching.
