  • Like many derivative products, futures can be confusing when you're trying to understand how changes in the underlying security affect changes in futures prices, which affect changes in your margin. Watch to learn how these relationships work and what it means for your initial margin, maintenance margin, and margin calls.

    So for example if I wanted to invest in silver I would have to look up silver futures? Silver is trading 25.00 an ounce right now so do I buy 25.00 worth of one stock?

    • @CharlesSchwab
      @CharlesSchwab  Před 4 měsíci

      You would purchase a silver futures contract, not a stock. One would want to get schooled on futures trading first of course. ^CH

      @@justinsmitley7619 for sure do a lot of research on futures and options. Stocks are simpler and don't require margin. The benefit of futures is the leverage versus that of a stock. A stock purchase is a purchase of that stock, but a futures contract of whatever you are buying - for example crude oil futures contract might be 100 barrels.

    Please tell me the future trading expiry date

    • @CharlesSchwab
      @CharlesSchwab  Před 3 měsíci

      You can find this on the thinkorswim platform by going to the Trade tab, then type in a futures symbol, then just below the symbol and to the right of the word futures, click the box and select "All". This will provide all futures expiration dates. ^MF

    Isn’t there any concept of future price in here?

    • @CharlesSchwab
      @CharlesSchwab  Před 2 měsíci

      Future price is unpredictable, and thus margin is based on spot markets and risk. ^BW

    if the margin requirment for micro is $50, And i have $50 in my account , i bought the contract and value goes 5% down which is sign to get margin call. However my question is why i get the margin call, $50 is my money not from broker. Why do u get call, i did not borrow any money. Can you make this concept clear .
