HOW MUCH Power Do Headers Make On The 370Z and G37?

- In this video I look at some testing I have done on header swaps on various G37s and 370Zs. One of the cars is a Nismo 370Z that made 333whp/271wtq on this Dynojet after switching from stock headers, to Z1 headers, and retuning. This gave a total gain of 18whp/11wtq over the stock headers we used on his previous tune (315whp/259wtq).
We saw an average of 16whp peak gain and 11wtq peak gain with gains everywhere on the powerband on the various cars we tested with. On my own G37 which uses JWT C2 exhaust cams, switching from stock headers to Tomei headers picked up a stellar 19whp with substantial gains throughout the powerband.

I think the best thing you notice in these videos, is how smooth the power becomes with a tune. You go from the bounciest incline line that drops power under acceleration to this beautiful smooth line.

As with most mods it's all about elimiting restrictions, headers probably wouldn't do much on their own but once you toss intake and a exhaust at a car it becomes the bottleneck.

Im in the process of installing this on my all-wheel drive G35 Vq35hr I had test pipes and I couldn't deal with exhaust leaks from the exhaust gasket flange so I decided to upgrade it is a pain in the butt to install definitely recommend new studs and bolts
I have Tomei headers on my DE, but they were installed along with cams, so the gains for the headers alone are unknown. This is an awesome video, though it'd be nice to see some DE love lol. Like, vids on Tomei/Z1 header gains on a DE.
I have done this test before with stock headers vs LTH and haven't seen a big difference on a stock cammed DE, mainly because the cams are really small.

Having driven both which one would you recommend? I'm thinking about a single turbo but I see the A2A kit are beast as well!

What year was the 370z? In 2014 they redesigned the stock header/manifolds for the 370z and from what I hear they are far superior to the older ones.

You know I have been in contact with you about getting headers on my Q50 3.7... I saw how much work is involved so I'll be doing the rest of the exhaust first, then getting headers if I ever have to open that area of the car up.
What kind of results do you see with the vq35hr? I know theres no vvel but would you see proportional gains with the 35hr as you see with the 37vhr?

I have a 2013 G37S sedan myself I've already lowered it and went with wider tires (Nitto G2)! The first thing I plan on doing is changing out my stock exhaust setup!! I will get cold air intakes and a tune!
Can't wait to see how my 370z is once I throw in those z1 headers and test pipes as well as porting my upper and lower manifold. I wanna try to hit that 340whp
340 can be done, we hit 337whp without the ported manifold on a 6speed 370Z here.

How much can you expect to make with intakes, headers, tune and stock exhaust in a 2015 Q60S (7AT). I hate the sound of any aftermarket exhausts, too raspy for my tastes.
Any option to keep stock sound but enlarge the piping? Oh and why such a difference in WHP/TQ from 370Z vs G37 at the end?

So any VHR motor can use Tomei headers but you have to have the DE test pipes? Someone correct me I’m lost I’m trying to do a full Tomei exhaust from headers to exhaust tip on my 08 6MT G37s and that’s what I’ve been hearing but I just wanna make sure I’m hearing right.

Hey, hope you still respond. I have an EM leak, and was going to use it as an excuse to pick up a new one. I have a 2009 g37x coupe, both of the headers you suggested will not fit on an X, do you have other options? Likewise, I have Fast Int. HFC and Ark CB if that matters.

The 370's are rumored to have complex (self-adjusting) ignition timing. If this is so, what are you doing to make most of your power gained from the tune? Other than correcting the mixture obviously, I assume you have a good cam timing scheme. What other parameters can be improved on these cars? Or is that most of it?
Looking at AAM mid mount turbo kit eventually. Already have K&N long intake and in Indian Gemini exhaust. Long headed make more sense but figment might be tough. Thoughts?
For the AAM turbo kit, they include their own manifolds, so headers would be a waste.

The HR and VHR use the same factory header collector, but due to the differences in the heads/cams between the two, would the HR lesser gains?

The Y pipe on a single exhaust scavenges better than most dual exhausts and allows for more power.

I've steered away from headers because of this issue I've heard about so much with the 7at...as well as issue with hfc and header fitment? Seeing these gains...I definitely wouldn't mind spending a Saturday installing them if there isn't a huge fitment issue.

Both, technically. Z1 and Tomei headers are short-tube headers, ISR and PPE headers are longtube.

Tomei makes headers for 370z? Never seen em!
It was only made for the 350z, but it can be used on the 370z. You just would test pipes or high flow cats for the 350z DE engine.
We're the gains from tomeis on your car before the jet cams? I'm stuck between tomei or going with isr headers. I'd love PPE but I can't justify the price. Iv been stuck on this for over a year.
PPE headers always make more power than Tomei headers. I have actually found this on multiple cars, after the making of this video.

Yes, ISR & PPE headers are very similar in power. I have made over 360whp on a couple of cars with ISR headers.
