I’ve just come to Sony after being with canon for almost 10 years! I’ve just got the a7ii because of money of course, and slowly switching up the lenses. Thanks for this video and also your settings video helped me to learn the different menu!
@@MaikHansen Hey Maik! Thanks for your response! Actually I've seen some videos to get to know the menu, it's a bit scared along the internet as seen haha. But there are some things I still don't know like how to manage continuous autofocus to faces or objects. I changed my AF button backwards and I don't know how to focus properly in those situations... I've set AF-on to AF/MF button and eye-detection AF to C4 button, but idk if eye AF works better than face detection AF in fast situations focus. For sure I'll come up with more doubts along I use more the camera, so I'll let you know! hahaha
@@javierdeabreu6565 The continuos AF only works with face detection and I think its actually pretty good. I tested the Eye AF as well with AF-S but for me and my photography it's not the right way. Because I like to move a lot and because of that the AF-S is to slow for my workflow. Oh and be aware that the AF-C only works with 100+ ISO In the beginning I always shot at ISO 50 and wondered why my AF-C doesn't work 😅
I was just too happy to get into the a7 family because I originally was going to buy a used a7 and I found the a7ii new for a very affordable price. You are so right the a7ii is still an excellent camera, can't wait to use it this summer.
I picked up a Sony A7RII this past year. I already had two a6000s and an a5000. I've decided to sell the a6000s and most of my crop lenses (keeping the fun little a5000) and use that money to buy a clean, used A7II as a second full-frame Sony. I still have my Canon 6D with a couple of really nice lenses that also work on the Sony with the Sigma MC-11. I'm not a big video maker, so the A7RII will cover any 4K I do want. Even for professional work, the gear I have will do all I need and more. So, yeah. For me, the A7II as a second body will work fine. Probably, just fine for a general used body and save the A7RII for those times I really want to take maximum advantage of the 42MP or 4K. I appreciate your approach in not telling someone a definite yes or no as to is it for them. Instead, taking the approach of showing the good and lessor aspects and telling them to decide for themselves.
@@AzamatoTheGreat Honestly, I have used the A7RII very little since I got it. My go-to is still the Canon 6D. From portraits to general use I know I can grab it and it will produce great images as long as I do my part. Low light and high ISO takes very little post work to clean up. I can shoot quite a bit, set the 6D aside, and know that I can still have enough battery life if I need to grab it in a hurry and go cover something. On the A7RII I have to make sure the fully charged battery I put in it and then set the camera aside is still charged enough later when I want to take it out. I can print 18x24 just fine. With programs like Gigapixel and now similar features in Photoshop, etc. I can crop the image a good bit and still upscale the cropped image to a larger file with pretty good results. I rarely need to though. The A7RII is a great camera with a good dynamic range and serious megapixel count. The flip-up screen is nice. However, I'm thinking of selling/trading my A7RII towards maybe a nice 300mm f2.8 or f4 lens. Either Canon L or a high-end third party. Or maybe a Canon 5D Mark III or IV. Even then, the 6D is the first DSLR I reach for. Unless you really need the extra megapixels, I'd say go for adding nice glass for the Canon. I hope that helps some.
@@WolfQuantum Thanks for the response mate, cheers for that. It's not the megapixels that I wonder about, I'm content with the results my Canon 6D gives me and how I use it in combination with Lightroom. It's mostly the fact that I can't use autofocus in live view that bothers me, the autofocus in general as well for moving portraits and the camera being heavy/clunky for my upcoming exchange semester in Japan, you know what I mean? Are these reasons enough for a switch or do you think that I shouldn't bother and will regret it?
@@AzamatoTheGreat For working in live mode the Sony wins. Sony also has face and eye focus for moving portraits. Since you will be spending a semester in Japan there might be a few times being able to take some of those once-in-a-lifetime, fill-the-wall shots, the extra resolution won't hurt. Just make sure you keep several charged batteries with you when you go out. Even though you are primarily interested in stills, for a trip like that the video won't hurt. Sony does have some pretty interesting apps you can download to the camera. I used the app for slowing water with my a6000s and it was pretty impressive. I have found the 6D with the 40MM pancake lens to be a relatively light carry-around. Still, it's the 24-70 and 70-200 that get used. The Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art lens on the Sony is about as heavy as the 24-70 2.8 though. I've pretty much dedicated the 40mm to an old 20D with infrared conversion. That is a fun combo. Good luck with the choices. There are good reasons for each. I will say that if you get the A7RII you can see about picking up a used a5100 or a5000 (I have the latter.) and they use the same battery. I sold my a6000s, but kept that little a5000. It's just a fun and pocketable camera with the right lenses.
Hey Maik, you also have the Eye AF on the A7ii ... Just need to set it on a button in the menu... I personally use the AEL button and that works well . Hope that can help PEACE

I guess yes 🤭
Hallo! Würdest du die Kamera jetzt auch noch empfehlen?:)
für einsteiger in fotografie definitiv! für video evtl. eine andere aber kommt darauf an was man machen will :)
@@MaikHansen genau, nur Fotografie. :) Danke!
did you mean electric viewfinder?
oh yes... my mistake 😅
mark its electronic viewfinder, not optical
so wait, I been using the Sony a7ii and the af is not good to be honest, Like I feel that most of the shots are gonna come blurry if I rely on the af
Try use the continuous auto focus
@@michaeltay7774 can you please explain a nit how that works? Since honestly i had no idea that was a thing so im a bit lost
@@Moonwalker130 this only works on Photo
Press on the fn button go to focus mode 2nd option is the Continuous AF, select that and then change the Focus Area to (Wide)
For video A7II the AF is helpless slow😂
@@michaeltay7774OH i see, thank you so much for the help
There’s no optical viewfinder on this camera. It’s electronic.
yeah I realized it as well 😅
Hello gyz... I was thinking to buy a sony a7 ii... Nowdays everyone tells me to buy a7iii but i have some problems so should i buy sony a7ii for photography in this time?

You can even get good videos with it
But I will also share some more comparisons videos in the future because I just upgraded to the SONY A7iii
A7ii does NOT have optical viewfinder!!!!
Yeah I know - just realized it after rewatching...

Now I am confused, I thought you where german, becaus of your accent, then you where in Paris, so I thought, you are French and the I heard you speak German...🤔
hahaha 😅 let me explain: I'm from Germany and decided to make my videos in English so that more people can understand what I'm saying. and currently I am in Paris to make my study abroad - hope it all makes sense now 😬🙏🏼
@@MaikHansen yes👍
