    Teams, OneNote, Outlook, etc. All the Microsoft apps I have on dual screen mode by default. If no other app is open then it will immediately fill up the full screen (which is what I want 95% of the time, and I can always flip it to one screen).

    Hi Shane, great content as always. I recently treated myself with a Christmas gift, which happened to be a surface duo 2. Been longing for this device for a long time, and have probably seen all your videos on this particular device. So far I love it, but (there’s always a but), I’m having some issues with the screen seeming to zoom in and/or sorta cropping videos and images on specifically social media apps. CZcams reels, Facebook, TikTok, instagram…you name it. Is this a bug or something that you heard of before or perhaps even experienced yourself? It’s like everything is zoomed in just a bit so to edges of the picture is “out of screen”. This happens in both spanned and normal mode.
    Since you mentioned TikTok In this video, I thought you might seen this yourself.
    Again, thanks for always bringing great surface content. Huge fan 👍

    Hi, thanks for the hint with gboard. My handwriting seem to work quite well with gboard. Found it quite strange that Microsoft did not add something like that to the Duo 1 as a standard and you need to find another "app" in the appstore to have this feature.

    I just wish there was an option to span across two screens with out missing any data. Like literally splitting and accounting for the physical gap between the screens. I don't mind the physical gap, but I can't accept losing the information covered by the gap.

  • @wes3999
    @wes3999 Před rokem +1

    Hi Shane, when my sd1 was on Android 10 I could span a Netflix movie across both screens and use a rotation app to turn the surface duo upside down. This would display the pixels below the screen gap (there was nothing hidden beneath the hinge gap). This seems to stop working since Android 11 update. Any way of getting this to work again? It was quite good to have the option of having the gap in the video, or turning the phone upside down and having no gap in the video

  • @BenLewisMaverick

    Top work as always Shane. Downloaded a couple of apps off of the back of this 👌
    I also didn't know about the Chrome x2 windows thing - have been flipping back to Edge (which I usually only use with a work profile) if I need to do some serious web-multitasking - knowing that Chrome can do it will save me some time/hassle! And keep my history synced..
    Also just to add another ebook suggestion into the mix - Pocketbook is pretty great, a lot more customisation than the others (can get the text borders, font, spacing, etc 'just right'), and Text-to-speech, and a very good offline dictionary with the Fora Dictionary plug in.
    I was thinking when watching that these videos must be great for Microsoft to reach new/potential customers for the Duo.. The Surface Go 3 was well earned! 😄 Keep them coming

    Still trying to do the surface duo thing and sell my Note 20 ultra that was serving that need, but in the process of returning my surface pen and waiting for my surface pen to slim to arrive, still don't have as good of a note taking experience as I did on Samsung notes in my opinion. Still adapting though. Part of me wanted the one note to just be full screen so I could mark up PDFs or just write notes on a giant slab and it always defaults back to that mode that has the chapters to the left and stuff. I just can't get used to that in like zooming in and out with fingers and remembering to turn the pen back off because the note would only write if you were using the pen so you didn't have to constantly switch back and forth. Just trying to get used to it still.
    Hindsight, I was really excited to try Evernote and that's the least intuitive note taking app I've ever tried to use.

    Surface Duo is great, but it needs to have a "ultra power saving mode" as the worst thing is being out and about with a dead phone. and since Duo battery life is bad its more likely to happen.

      @@scaryifliteral It's no longer listed under Surface devices on Microsoft's site, they removed it. It hasn't been available on their site for months. No other retailers are carrying it. Amazon might list one here and there. BestBuy has a clearance on them at a reduced price and none are available. The supply chain excuse Microsoft gave doesn't hold water, all the other major companies in this space are selling inventory. I will lay money that we will never see a Duo 3. I don't like it, just stating what's seemingly obvious. Software updates do not equal a future for the series.

    • @ds6224
      @ds6224 Před rokem

      @@scaryifliteral Where is your proof that Surface Duo 3 is under 'active development' let's not make stuff up.

    • @scaryifliteral
      @scaryifliteral  Před rokem

      Surface Duo 2 is out of stock for reasons I've discussed here multiple times. The short version is that supply chain issues effect a device like Duo a lot more because almost all of it is custom. It also is a small quantity device which means manufacturing is even more expensive. It makes no financial sense for Microsoft to order more hardware because of these factors and thus it is out of stock and likely never coming back. If you'd said "Duo 2 is dead" I wouldn't have said anything.
      My proof that Android 13 and Surface Duo 3 are in active development is the fact that I've spoken to two people that have seen the prototypes. I can't share any more than that for obvious reasons. What I will say is that we're talking about people who sent me images of Duo 2 before launch and images of the cancelled Duo 2 Go before Windows Central got enough details to write a story. You can choose to ignore that and go with your gut, but I'm sticking with my proven sources on this one. You could also ask the reporter who is likely more connected to the development of Duo 3 than anyone, Zac Bowen, and he'll tell you the same thing.
      The confidence that people have in their gut feelings on thins are honestly a wonder to me. I can speak to real humans who have proven their reliability and still not fully trust it until it's better proven, but fellas like you get a feeling in your tum tum and have all the confidence in the world lol. If something happens between now and next fall and Duo 3 never comes then something MAJOR would have happened behind the scenes and they would have wasted a ton of R&D money because Duo 3 is 100% being prototyped in at least two very different designs.

    • @ds6224
      @ds6224 Před rokem

      @@scaryifliteral So you have no proof. A couple of fellas told me they saw some prototypes, really? Proof would be pictures or better yet, video of a working prototype. You haven't even seen these images of these prototypes, so before they sent you images of a device right before launch, and then later of a cancelled device. You don't even have the images and you just helped prove my point. Images of the cancelled Duo 2 Go, which means that Duo 3 could easily be cancelled.
      I get it, you're a fanboy and you so want to believe it, so much so, that you ignore the obvious. You said it yourself "It also is a small quantity device which means manufacturing is even more expensive. It makes no financial sense for Microsoft to order more hardware" this is exactly why there will be no Duo 3 in your own words. They don't sell enough of them. Microsoft doesn't publish the sales figures but one could easily assume the Duo program has lost a ton of money and will never be profitable. They tried twice and the demand is not there. It is a very niche product and Microsoft will not stick with niche products.
      Look at what happened with the Nokia purchase. They had far more money invested in that and cancelled it.
      The evidence is there, you just choose to ignore it because it doesn't fit your agenda. You don't even acknowledge it is a possibility that it could be cancelled.
      If Microsoft does decide to take one more swing and bring out a new device, it would more likely be a foldable phone along the lines of a Samsung fold with one foldable inner screen and an outer screen.
      I'll refer you back to this thread when the news comes out.
