Nice list Even if I had a bit of trouble understanding some of those pronunciations of our words ;)
Can't believe there wasn't a single point on this list mentioning Aqua or Barbie Girl.
Also, Copenhagen houses THE oldest comic book store in the whole world, "Fantask" which is turning 50 years old next year.
Last year, the place was on the edge of closing it's doors actually but a huge crowdfunding campaign raised almost $90,000 to help them stay afloat.
Denmark was also THE first country to legalize the sale of pornographic content and we were also the first country to legalize gay marriage.
And for many Europeans growing up in the '90s, you might remember a television show where you could call in to play a computer game called Hugo via the buttons on your phone. That character and the whole concept also originated from the Danish company "Silverrocks Studio"
The Unity engine that is used by many developers to create video games these days also have its roots in Denmark.
Also, in Denmark, we like to think that Santa Clause lives on Greenland and not the North Pole.
Santa Clause danish name is "Julemanden" which directly translates to "The Christmas Man"
We also celebrate Christmas on Dec 24th and usually opens up presents after the Christmas dinner.
Most Danes prefer Duck or Pork with rinds while a few prefer ham. As long as the potatoes and gravy are there.

16:24 and that one leader was Magrete, king Valdemar's daughter, who were th first female ruler and the one who made the union possible.
This union fell apart when she died, because the next ruler, Christian, killed a bunch of Swedish politicians (or some other kind of important Swedish people, I can't remember 100%), which was why the Swedish decided to stop being part of the union, understandably so.

    • @Sigart
      @Sigart Před 3 lety +3

Queen Margrethe was not officially the ruler, but rather the regent in place of her son, Olaf, since her husband, the king of Norway had died.
Christan II wasn't the next leader, the next leader was Erik af Pommern, (or of Pommerania, if you will), whom she adopted, because Olaf ended up dying. Erik was then followed by King Hans who was _then_ followed by Christian II. The union, as you say, did start to fall apart almost as soon as Margrethe died, though, because the Swedes didn't want to be a part of it. It had then been falling apart until the Stockholm Bloodbath, which Christian II thought would show those Swedes who was boss.
Ftr, No one liked Erik much as a king, though he was wise enough to start the whole taxation of Øresund. He ended his days as a pirate working off of Gotland. Just, uh, that detail never fails to amuse me.

Hygge is that feeling when you are doing something really nice, eating something tasty, or having a nice time with family or friends, where you get like a tickle, or a warm fuzzy feeling deep down in the stomack.
To do something "hyggeligt" is doing anything that gives you that fuzzy feeling...

Well actually the way he died was never confirmed, but he did die while having dinner with the king of Belgium I believe (not sure it but it was certainly a very important person from that area). And yes the story goes that he died of a ruptured bladder from literally not peeing because he was being too polite to ask. Tycho Brae was also friends with the danish king and was gifted the island of Hvem (which is swedish now), to study the stars. There is so much history about Thycho Brae! If you're from Denmark or sweden or ever visit you should go to Hvem and see the palace garden and the museum about him, really interesting stuff.
