How to Make 2024 The Best Year of Your Filmmaking Life

Everyone has their own preference for goal setting templates and frameworks. So as we head into 2024, I wanted to offer something that I felt was a bit more universal -- 3 simple perspectives that, if you keep in mind throughout the year, will help you have the best year of your filmmaking life.

This is just what I needed to hear today. The life of documentary filmmaking can be so unpredictable and it’s also so competitive - there is always someone doing something which looks glamorous on the other side that we want to aspire to. I’m always trying to get my foot in the door still even after doing this for a living since 19 years old…But the reality is that there is no one way to success in our field. Filmmaking is hugely diverse and hugely rewarding whether we focus on documentaries, narratives, commercial/branded content, etc… and inside of those niches are more niches in themselves, like outdoor adventure documentaries like what you love to focus on. I’ve made the decision to chase a documentary focused career in Los Angeles this year but I need to be careful of truly finding the opportunities which are right for me, not the ones that look glamorous but perhaps are not truly adding to the value of my personal life and my success. Thanks for the great words of wisdom Austin! Keep it up!!
