Fascinating distillation of Stan. Better likeness than the photo, actually.
I read Satan
LarrivaArt hey, you’re here!
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
- John 3:16 (KJV)
Outstanding "FREE" lesson and advice!! You are absolutely correct and spot on with every suggestion.
Capturing the MOST interesting impression of the character THROUGH shape design and shape relationships. Thank you!
This caricature is great. Literally the only thing I would change is the size of the earlobe. Everything about his face, his hair, the proportion of head to body and neck is so... perfect.
I showed this to my dad and he was laughing so hard, he absolutely loved this caricature. Amazing work!
Great sketches and caricature. Also I think it's one of the most (if not the most) informative 11 minutes drawing tutorial on youtube xD . Since I'm learning on my own, it took me lots of time to acknowledge thumbnail sketching, halftones, edges, brushes, "having an eye", "flipping the canvas", "taking breaks for a fresh eye", Reilly method... and it's all introduced here and demonstrated in just 11 minutes!
wish you well and I hope to see you around Court. Thanks a lot for you and Stan.
that moment when the caricature is more Stan looking than Stan himself
If you want to have a cartoonize like this you can use this one *is. gd/Cartoonize*
that's.. what a caricature is supposed to be.
That is how one know that a Caricature is very well done ;)
What a lovely vídeo. Loved itn😬💪👌

This demo and the likeness: absolutely brilliant. Thanks for the clear discussion.
Next beet’s on me.
Amazing how the caricature looks more like Stan than the photo! I love this so much!
I love this. Beet! Ha ha. Very good likeness and I love beetroot as we call it. It is extremely healthy. Fabulous as usual. Thank you Proko.
I haven't watched the video yet but if its the last one, thank you for your course, which I also haven't signed up for. But I judge the quality of the teaching by the student work and I have been very impressed with the student work. And I have been to an atelier that tried a couple times to teach caricature and there weren't any star pupils. Anyway a beautiful course and I did follow a long for quite a while with the free stuff. Thank you Court.
Fascinating, truly! How the likeness can somehow more accurately depict Stan than Stan himself!
Drawing has been always fun but I always kinda fumbled with the process itself; no problems when studying gesture, value or structure, but when it was time to put it all together in a full work things would all come to "I think..." or "maybe...", there was no guidelines, only, hm, "feeling"; I tried following the drawing steps I do found around but nothing really seems to work for me. But like, thanks to your videos now I know the steps for a full on drawing that works for me and with just that the fun and the overall look of my drawings improved immensely, also my time! There is literally no fall back on what I learned here! Like, I am not really into caricature but screw that thank you so very much for the idea of "thumbnail > rough sketch > 'fix' > shape and line > value"! I can not thank you enough!!!!!!!!
That's awesome to hear! The fundamental process I use for caricature can definitely be applied to drawing subjects traditionally as well.
he captured his sass so well, damn xD
This is by far my favorite Proko video of all time.
Now I gotta mail Proko some BEETS!! :-D
Watching these videos really makes you feel like an artist
I love this series. Thanks for sharing your talent and process.

@@yaglboyavesanat9187 thanks
There’s a lot of stuff you explained in this video that I already did (like flipping the image to check it’s right) but had no idea why. Why I was doing it? What I was meant to be looking for etc. I just did it because...well, everyone knows the horror of flipping a sketch if you don’t k kw what you’re doing lol so thanks for the info as to what it is we are meant to be looking at.
I think it's just easier to see mistakes like bad alignments of the features or other imbalances when you look at it in reverse. You could also step back and look at it from a distance. But flipping backward seems to work best for me.
Nice video. One of my favorite tutorials on CZcams. Keep up the good work.
Nice work Court and GREAT tutorial. Thanks for sharing!
didn't know u have to put so much thought into making Caricatures. Loved it
I'm in the middle of Stans course, and get easily distracted by your work. I'm very much looking forward to purchasing your course when I complete the Legs and .. .. other body parts... I am however curious if you cover "likeness" more in detail in your videos. I've tried many a times to draw friends only fail in the likeness department. So any exclusive content with hints, tips or tricks you use would be a tremendous help. I'm hoping to see/learn more from you in your Premium Videos! Cheers!
I think that lessons about likeness in general are embedded naturally in the caricature videos. I talk about it explicitly in the very first lesson. The premium version does go into a bit more detail on the concept. We recognize a person based on how they differ from the "average." Or how they differ from everyone else we've ever seen. So if you make sure those differences from the average are in your portrait, you'll get a recognizable face. If you push those differences even further, you get a caricature. I also happen to think you can push those differences (ie. exaggerate the features) very slightly in a portrait to enhance the likeness and yet not damage the structure or worry about making it humorous. It's a very subtle skill. Artists like Sargent were masters of the subtle exaggerations, as well as idealizations to flatter his subjects.
Wonderful. Have learned many things. Thank you very much.

Great art and wonderful likeness of Stan. I would make the left iris little bigger (now i see him with strabismus) and would add eyelashes to the right eye. Thank You so much for Your courses.
Mastery!!! Fantastic job.
Love it! He looks more like Stan on your drawing than on photo :D
Glad you refrained from telling us how many times he beets himself off in a day!
Found very interesting & excellently explained -- thanks Court!! Hats of !!
Beetroot's idea is very beneficial. The connotation with other vegetables and fruits upload.

Thank u stan caricature course amazing
So goooood! Totally inspired
as always, thank you for another great tutorial
You are so excellent at this and I feel lucky to watch you teach. May I ask..what pencils you suggest using and what if I need to erase or is that a no no, just start over? I have a bazillion questions. I have been trying to do this for over a year and just can't get it. Maybe you will be able to really teach me and perhaps premium is the way for me to go. I can sculpt very well, but probably because it's actually 3 dimensional. I really want to be able to do this and can see it in my head. I can't seem to be able to keep it on the piece of paper..it runs off of all of the edges. Should I, maybe, try to draw them smaller than the entire sheet of paper? Thank you for all you teach. I have been subscribed for over a year and even though notifications are turned on, I don't seem to be getting them. I will keep looking for you and hopefully I will eventually learn. I think this would be a viable occupation from my wheelchair. Thanks Again!!!!!
Oh I see. You are using the computer? Can I use actual pencils?
OMG, Yes!!! Dreams have come true!
Excelente grato por compartilhar
How the hell do you make it look like him so much! It's really cool!
I've studied Stan's face intently for some time now. ;)
How long did you work on this in real time?
All together it took 4 hours. The preparatory sketches, rough, abstraction and linear lay-in took two hours and the final rendering with values took about two hours.
I hate you now.
Wow this lesson is tooo good
wow, incredible tutorial!

You are so good!

Amazing
Wonderful.
Is the whole course for digital art?
No. While digital art is used to demonstrate, the concepts in the course apply to traditional art as well.
Court is primarily a traditional caricaturist.
Cool

how do drawing caricature
czcams.com/video/qc7vB-SOAEw/video.html
how can i do all those steps with simple primitive sheets of paper? what technic and tools do i need if i don't have a tablet?
You can do these steps on paper if it is thin enough, like a thin vellum or tracing paper. Or if you have a light box.
my fav song is also beat it lol

VERY IMPORTANT LESSON FOR SUCCESSFUL DRAWING CARICATURE.I M JUST A FUN.
Who would like to let me know what app he used to draw here? The name of the drawing appliance.
Hola, podría decirme como hacer para que el Pincel rote mientras pinto, como configurar para que rote cuando cambio de dirección como aparece acá en el Video
If I understand your question correctly, you are asking about how to set the brush rotation to the pen direction? If so, this is the answer in Photoshop: With your brush selected, go to the "Brush Settings" palette. Click on "Shape Dynamics" and under the "Angle Jitter" setting, select "Direction" as the control. Then save that brush as a new preset
Court Jones Thanks Court, I'll try
Super sir
I'm speechless...
