Thank you for this. Finally some sense on the internet. Anyone who is a true fan of HP books knows for sure that it was always Ron & Hermione from the start... always... That Harry/Hermione and Draco/Hermione stuff is a figment of imagination of those who fantasised on social media without any prior knowledge of these characters in the books. Its like arguing without having read Hamlet, that Ophelia was in love with Horatio coz your imagination sees something in the movie or drama representation of that play instead of actually reading the text first. JKR should also stop commenting on her characters after creating this world a long time ago... The text after being written has its own life, its an independent entity... There was never any tension between Harry and Hermione and Emma is right... in the books she is over protective of Harry whereas in Ron's case, she wants him to protect her or take action as is obvious from her anger at him when he stays his nonchalant self... Just want to note that I saw the movies first and thought Ron & Hermione were absolutely meant to be, and Harry with Hermione (romantically) makes NO sense to me. I don't think you have to read the books first to get it. I've even seen people who read the books first and expected H & H to be endgame. I will always be a Romione shipper. I just wish we could have seen more of the two of them together in the books (and I don't mean fanfiction or that garbage cursed child play thing).
As much as I love Harry and Hermiones chemistry it's obviously just a platonic best friend kind of relationship and I think it's amazing and adorable to watch but also kinda sad because as soon as a girl and boy (in movies and real life) treat each other in a sweet, caring, sarcastic and affectionate way everybody jumps to the conclusion that they MUST be a couple now.
The books are really clear that flirtation, attraction, and a relationship of equals is only happening between Ron and Hermione. Their nagging is their way of showing interest. Their insecurities are really in tune. She pushes him in ordinary life, he pushes her in situations involving pressure. Harry/Hermione is more of a traditional pairing for Hollywood movies. It has to more with Movie Hermione than anything else. Draco/Hermione is only a Tom Felton/Emma Watson ship. Would you date someone who considers you a "mudblood"? I feel that Rowling is regretting this because of the personal relationship she has with the Ron character (the fact that he is inspired in a childhood friend/crush). We have to consider Hermione is Rowling's portrayal of herself. She says the relationship started as wish fulfillment. Well, yes. In the books, the two characters are written to fall in love. That is wish fulfillment for her, and for the narrative, is just what is being written. Just because now the wish fulfillment appears immature or she would have done other things, she is saying it should have been different. But it is her work that disagrees with her, she couldn't possibly have changed this midstream and of course not in Book 6.
I agree. I know she started it out as a sort of wish fulfillment type thing but as the story progresses it was very clear that Ron and Hermione were more than just a crush that she wanted to see through but two characters that started out as friends and developed feelings for eachother then grew up even more and fell in love. It also made sense with the plot since Hermione and Ron are the ones always trying to help Harry through his journey and give two different answers or sides to something it makes sense that the two people giving Harry advice would end up together.
She was talking about herself as emma and Rupert. Not as hermione and ron. Because as actors they grew up together. But she always felt it in her gut that the CHARACTERS were so likely to come together in the end of the series.

if you're a Romione shipper, try to look at things from an objective point of view and put that aside. Let's just examine the literary evidence. A good writer Shows us the motivations of the characters, they don’t just Tell us about it. And frankly, Rowling didn’t even really Tell us what it is that Hermione allegedly sees in Ron in the books. Rowling sort of mentioned it after the books were written that Hermione likes the fact that Ron is funny. But what we actually see in the text in the books is something completely different. Ron is insulting and horrible to Hermione in first year, which culminates in him calling her a Nightmare. And though there are no huge fights indicated after that, or in second year, we are told in PoA after Snape insults Hermione (third year) that Ron has been insulting Hermione at least once a week since first year in precisely the same terms (yes, calling someone a know-it-all is an insult). (Harry NEVER insulted Hermione. He never once called her a bossy know-it-all. And it’s never even indicated that Harry thinks being smart or a "know-it-all" is a bad thing. And only once in The Philosopher’s Stone is it clearly indicated that Harry thinks that Hermione is bossy and interfering… and that was before the Troll Incident. And in any case, Harry still never actually said it to Hermione. Indeed, Harry is the one who wants to look for Hermione to save her from the Troll. He practically has to drag Ron to look for her). Okay, to get back to the point: Ron’s been insulting Hermione for the first three years, even after they’ve become friends. And then in PoA there are lots of huge fights between Hermione and Ron-admittedly Hermione’s apparent lack of concern for Scabbers contributes to this, however, after being insulted on a weekly basis by Ron, it’s not that surprising. (And even though Harry isn’t happy that Hermione told McGonagall about the Firebolt without talking to him, it’s Ron who actually seems to be the most upset and fights with Hermione about it). Then there’s fourth year. And again, Ron insults Hermione and fights with her about House Elves (not to mention that Ron wishes he had his own house-elf slave while Hermione wants to free them, and Harry ACTUALLY freed a house-elf). Ron throws a hissy fit and has a huge row with Hermione about Krum. (And let's not forget that after Ron is a total jerk to Harry and ditches him, Hermione stands by Harry). So a lot of fourth year is taken up with Ron and Hermione being at loggerheads. Then there’s fifth year. Though no huge rows are shown, it is indicated that Ron and Hermione are constantly arguing and fighting in a more low key way (“bickering” Harry calls it). Then there’s sixth year: Ron is a complete arse towards Hermione. Not only that, Ron is horrible to Ginny too and comes close to calling her a slut (though, to be fair, Ginny doesn't take his crap, and is perfectly capable of dishing it right back at him). He exploits Lavender’s affections simply to spite Hermione (for snogging Krum two years prior) AND to spite Ginny (which is a bit creepy if you think about it), and to score a notch on his belt. All the way around he's treating three young women very badly (and let's not forget that Ron is also yelling at girls on the quidditch team and making them cry). In the end, Ron spends a lot of sixth year fighting with Hermione, and ONLY shows his real appreciation when Hermione is doing his homework for him. And then there’s seventh year. And we all know what a complete mess that was. **And before anyone blames it on the horcrux, it’s important to remember that the horcrux doesn’t actually change people-it really just reveals the truth of one’s character (a Dark Inner-Truth Revealer of sorts). Harry and Hermione merely become a bit more irritable when they wear it (and if you think about it, given that Harry has been through WAY MORE pain and suffering than Ron ever has, it’s very revealing about Harry’s sterling nature that Harry isn’t the one to go completely mental). So again, Ron goes off the rails, ditches his best friend, and treats Hermione like rubbish. And it’s really a bit icky when it is revealed earlier in the book that Ron is using a “witch-charming” book to try and win Hermione’s affections, instead of just trying to grow up a bit and get over himself. So what we’re left with in the end, is SEVEN YEARS OF FIGHTING, and that Ron and Hermione really have no business being together, and that for some reason (wish-fulfillment Rowling calls it in the interview in which she admitted that Harry and Hermione were a better fit) Rowling portrays Hermione as one of “those sorts of girls,” a smart assertive girl who nonetheless is inexplicably drawn to a guy who treats her like rubbish and infuriates her to no end. And we’re supposed to believe that Hermione falls for Ron just because he makes her laugh a bit??? It really doesn’t make any sense unless you accept that Hermione is so weak-minded and so insecure that she overlooks all the misery that Ron puts her through and all of their mutual antagonism. Anyway, I think from an objective point of view, it’s fairly clear that Ron and Hermione aren’t actually “perfect for each other,” in any way, shape, or form, and that indeed, they actually bring out the WORST in each other.
I see where you’re coming from, but through everything, Harry specifically says that he sees her as a sister and “reckons she feels the same”. most of their arguing is because they know each other well enough and how to bug each other. I could go through and respond to all of these but I think the books are enough evidence. you are taking the worst of ron when hermione is just as rude toward him. (though, yes, Ron absolutely starts a lot of things). their feelings are SO clear that even Harry as a narrator (because the books are his POV) sees the way they feel. ron went into a cave of spiders (his biggest fear) in hopes of getting information that would save Hermione. in POA he defends her against snape and the fact that he frequently calls her a know-it-all is a way of proving how different it is when he calls her that vs when it’s an authority figure. he was a disaster in fourth year, I know that, but he didn’t realize he cared for her that way until he felt threatened and like she might have what their relationship is with a different person. in fifth year while harry is upset and on edge, they lean on each other. in 6th year, ron dates another girl because he thinks “finally, someone’s interested” and Hermione had no right to attack him for that. Ron wasn’t fair to lavender, I know that too. and in DH theyre each other’s number one priorities even when Harry is the one with the weight of the world on his shoulders. in this book I think they really prove how much they care for each other and I’m sorry that you can’t see that.
I didn’t even go over how Hermione likes Ron not because he “makes her laugh a little” but because he helps her loosen up when she’s an otherwise pretty uptight girl. and she helps him in the opposite way. Hermione chose Ron because they challenge and balance each other out. & Harry was never an option because she doesn’t see him that way

Just want to note that I saw the movies first and thought Ron & Hermione were absolutely meant to be, and Harry with Hermione (romantically) makes NO sense to me. I don't think you have to read the books first to get it. I've even seen people who read the books first and expected H & H to be endgame. Even now, they still ship them, which I'm not mad at them for, I just don't agree.

The books are really clear that flirtation, attraction, and a relationship of equals is only happening between Ron and Hermione. Their nagging is their way of showing interest. Their insecurities are really in tune. She pushes him in ordinary life, he pushes her in situations involving pressure.
Harry/Hermione is more of a traditional pairing for Hollywood movies. It has to more with Movie Hermione than anything else.

I feel that Rowling is regretting this because of the personal relationship she has with the Ron character (the fact that he is inspired in a childhood friend/crush). We have to consider Hermione is Rowling's portrayal of herself.
She says the relationship started as wish fulfillment. Well, yes. In the books, the two characters are written to fall in love. That is wish fulfillment for her, and for the narrative, is just what is being written. Just because now the wish fulfillment appears immature or she would have done other things, she is saying it should have been different. But it is her work that disagrees with her, she couldn't possibly have changed this midstream and of course not in Book 6.
I agree. I know she started it out as a sort of wish fulfillment type thing but as the story progresses it was very clear that Ron and Hermione were more than just a crush that she wanted to see through but two characters that started out as friends and developed feelings for eachother then grew up even more and fell in love. It also made sense with the plot since Hermione and Ron are the ones always trying to help Harry through his journey and give two different answers or sides to something it makes sense that the two people giving Harry advice would end up together.

if you're a Romione shipper, try to look at things from an objective point of view and put that aside. Let's just examine the literary evidence.
A good writer Shows us the motivations of the characters, they don’t just Tell us about it. And frankly, Rowling didn’t even really Tell us what it is that Hermione allegedly sees in Ron in the books. Rowling sort of mentioned it after the books were written that Hermione likes the fact that Ron is funny.
But what we actually see in the text in the books is something completely different. Ron is insulting and horrible to Hermione in first year, which culminates in him calling her a Nightmare. And though there are no huge fights indicated after that, or in second year, we are told in PoA after Snape insults Hermione (third year) that Ron has been insulting Hermione at least once a week since first year in precisely the same terms (yes, calling someone a know-it-all is an insult).
(Harry NEVER insulted Hermione. He never once called her a bossy know-it-all. And it’s never even indicated that Harry thinks being smart or a "know-it-all" is a bad thing. And only once in The Philosopher’s Stone is it clearly indicated that Harry thinks that Hermione is bossy and interfering… and that was before the Troll Incident. And in any case, Harry still never actually said it to Hermione. Indeed, Harry is the one who wants to look for Hermione to save her from the Troll. He practically has to drag Ron to look for her).
Okay, to get back to the point: Ron’s been insulting Hermione for the first three years, even after they’ve become friends.
And then in PoA there are lots of huge fights between Hermione and Ron-admittedly Hermione’s apparent lack of concern for Scabbers contributes to this, however, after being insulted on a weekly basis by Ron, it’s not that surprising.
(And even though Harry isn’t happy that Hermione told McGonagall about the Firebolt without talking to him, it’s Ron who actually seems to be the most upset and fights with Hermione about it).
Then there’s fourth year. And again, Ron insults Hermione and fights with her about House Elves (not to mention that Ron wishes he had his own house-elf slave while Hermione wants to free them, and Harry ACTUALLY freed a house-elf). Ron throws a hissy fit and has a huge row with Hermione about Krum. (And let's not forget that after Ron is a total jerk to Harry and ditches him, Hermione stands by Harry). So a lot of fourth year is taken up with Ron and Hermione being at loggerheads.
Then there’s fifth year. Though no huge rows are shown, it is indicated that Ron and Hermione are constantly arguing and fighting in a more low key way (“bickering” Harry calls it).
Then there’s sixth year: Ron is a complete arse towards Hermione.
Not only that, Ron is horrible to Ginny too and comes close to calling her a slut (though, to be fair, Ginny doesn't take his crap, and is perfectly capable of dishing it right back at him). He exploits Lavender’s affections simply to spite Hermione (for snogging Krum two years prior) AND to spite Ginny (which is a bit creepy if you think about it), and to score a notch on his belt.
All the way around he's treating three young women very badly (and let's not forget that Ron is also yelling at girls on the quidditch team and making them cry). In the end, Ron spends a lot of sixth year fighting with Hermione, and ONLY shows his real appreciation when Hermione is doing his homework for him.
And then there’s seventh year. And we all know what a complete mess that was.
**And before anyone blames it on the horcrux, it’s important to remember that the horcrux doesn’t actually change people-it really just reveals the truth of one’s character (a Dark Inner-Truth Revealer of sorts). Harry and Hermione merely become a bit more irritable when they wear it (and if you think about it, given that Harry has been through WAY MORE pain and suffering than Ron ever has, it’s very revealing about Harry’s sterling nature that Harry isn’t the one to go completely mental).
So again, Ron goes off the rails, ditches his best friend, and treats Hermione like rubbish. And it’s really a bit icky when it is revealed earlier in the book that Ron is using a “witch-charming” book to try and win Hermione’s affections, instead of just trying to grow up a bit and get over himself.
So what we’re left with in the end, is SEVEN YEARS OF FIGHTING, and that Ron and Hermione really have no business being together, and that for some reason (wish-fulfillment Rowling calls it in the interview in which she admitted that Harry and Hermione were a better fit) Rowling portrays Hermione as one of “those sorts of girls,” a smart assertive girl who nonetheless is inexplicably drawn to a guy who treats her like rubbish and infuriates her to no end.
And we’re supposed to believe that Hermione falls for Ron just because he makes her laugh a bit??? It really doesn’t make any sense unless you accept that Hermione is so weak-minded and so insecure that she overlooks all the misery that Ron puts her through and all of their mutual antagonism.
Anyway, I think from an objective point of view, it’s fairly clear that Ron and Hermione aren’t actually “perfect for each other,” in any way, shape, or form, and that indeed, they actually bring out the WORST in each other.
I see where you’re coming from, but through everything, Harry specifically says that he sees her as a sister and “reckons she feels the same”. most of their arguing is because they know each other well enough and how to bug each other. I could go through and respond to all of these but I think the books are enough evidence. you are taking the worst of ron when hermione is just as rude toward him. (though, yes, Ron absolutely starts a lot of things). their feelings are SO clear that even Harry as a narrator (because the books are his POV) sees the way they feel. ron went into a cave of spiders (his biggest fear) in hopes of getting information that would save Hermione. in POA he defends her against snape and the fact that he frequently calls her a know-it-all is a way of proving how different it is when he calls her that vs when it’s an authority figure. he was a disaster in fourth year, I know that, but he didn’t realize he cared for her that way until he felt threatened and like she might have what their relationship is with a different person. in fifth year while harry is upset and on edge, they lean on each other. in 6th year, ron dates another girl because he thinks “finally, someone’s interested” and Hermione had no right to attack him for that. Ron wasn’t fair to lavender, I know that too. and in DH theyre each other’s number one priorities even when Harry is the one with the weight of the world on his shoulders. in this book I think they really prove how much they care for each other and I’m sorry that you can’t see that.
I didn’t even go over how Hermione likes Ron not because he “makes her laugh a little” but because he helps her loosen up when she’s an otherwise pretty uptight girl. and she helps him in the opposite way. Hermione chose Ron because they challenge and balance each other out. & Harry was never an option because she doesn’t see him that way
