  • In this video I explain how to have remote access to a Reolink NVR using the Reolink Client Software. It's necessary to have the cameras and recorder connected to a network and to the Internet.

    I just setup the NVR and connected the first camera today, my app is working somewhat OK when on wifi, like initially i'll get a device disconnected but if I play the recordings then back out it will work, but when off my home wifi I can't connect to the camera or playback but am getting push notifications.

      @napoleonshaw75 for the not working when not on my home wifi the answer was to connect a display (TV or Monitor) to the NVR and complete the on screen setup, not all settings are in the app, you have to do the on device setup

      You have to go into the settings and enable the UID. It allows the cameras to connect when the viewing device is off the same network.

    Normally these ring and reolinks cams have timeouts that only allow you to monitor a camera for maybe 5 or 10 minutes then it switches off. Will the nvr allow you to watch the cam without the timeout?

    What's the advantage of the NVR over simply using the camera with a memory chip? I have had three of the cameras for about two weeks using the computer app, which seemed to work fine. So I recently purchased The 16 port NVR to test, but I have some disappointments. The NVR is rather noisy and I was hoping to locate it in a remote container, but I still have to view the NVR using the computer app. While using the computer app if I try a playback on a camera without a chip, I get a message saying there is no chip? Apparently the camera cannot pull from the NVR hard drive unless I'm actually viewing the hard drive hooked up to a monitor. I haven't tried to hook the NVR up to blue Iris, but the cameras individually work in blue Iris. So I'm considering returning the NVR and purchasing some memory chips and an eight port POE switch, what are your thoughts on the matter?

      Hi, there. A NVR record the video into a Hard Drive which is safer than an Micro SD card. NVR were designed to work with security camera a long time ago and micro SD cards are alternatives but they can fail sometimes, they also have issues with wear (keep an eye on them after several months of constant recording). NVRs have large storage capacity and can be connected directly a monitor for live view. Let's say your Internet is down... you can't see the camera via the App anymore but you certainly can look a the NVR's monitor. You can also setup the NVR for different events. Regarding the App. You need to add the NVR to to it, not the cameras.... The NVR sees the cameras, so the App must see the NVR, so you can playback and control everything... please add the NVR to the App. You can also control the NVR via a software in the PC.... I hope that helps.

      @@bestsecuritydevices Thank you for your reply, it appears to me that the DVR as far as its software goes is just an interface for the cameras. The interface does not seem to work as well for me as the app on the computer or for that matter the app on the phone. Of course I don't plan on running cameras 24/7, only when something moves. 4 256 MB chips equals a terabyte, and I think the eight camera system is 2 TB. The only point you rise beyond these things is the question of chips wearing out or breaking down. I have one of those sunba 36 optical zoom that follows you with a chip in it, and the model before that running five years without any issues. Let us say you had eight cameras running 256 GB for a total of around 2 TB which is Equivalent to a hard drive the NVR for an eight camera system. I'm not sure what the math odds are, but if I were a betting man I would bet that mathematically the DVR might fail before one or two chips failed. So you would have a mathematically greater chance of no failures running chips as compared to a 2 TB NVR. The complexities of a memory chip in comparison to end NVR with two hard drives and a processor are almost nonexistent in comparison.
      And if the network goes down, the local area network would still work and I would still have access to the memory cards in the cameras for playback purposes. But I do thank you for your input, I have more or less decided to send back the NVR to Amazon, along with four 810 a cameras in exchange for two of the Reolink Duo 2 PoE
      I am a retired camera security person, I used to own a company called Maui custom surveillance on the island of Maui, I used to install DVR's with four cameras in a McDonald's at a cost of $5000! So I am playing with the new equipment almost as a hobby, because camera security was my career. I installed the first DVR's, the first IP cameras, and the first analytical cameras in the Hawaiian Islands. But I have been retired from the business for 15 years. Today I installed one of those Reolink Duo 2 PoE, and I am thoroughly impressed. They have a Sim card version of this camera I'd like to test out to see if it works with a Verizon ANP. If you have any experience with that particular camera I would be interested in what Sim cards you tried to use.

    To do it like this, you must be subscribed to Reolink Cloud right?

  • @Ant3CC
    @Ant3CC Před 8 měsíci +5

    And check the settings on the NVR. On the page where you see the QR code , there is an option to enable "Viewing this device from Reolink software using UID"
    Took me quite a while trying to setup the app before I spotted that setting was not enabled on my NVR.

    • @DanielRichards644
      @DanielRichards644 Před 7 měsíci

      would this make it so you get disconnected messages when not on your local wifi?

    • @Ant3CC
      @Ant3CC Před 7 měsíci +1

      @DanielRichards644 I think so. Before I enable this setting I can add and view my NVR when I was on local wifi. Once I disconnect wifi the app will lost connection to NVR.

    • @DanielRichards644
      @DanielRichards644 Před 7 měsíci

      @Ant3CC thanks for the reply, that screen with the qr code was part of the On Device setup (where you hook a monitor and mouse to the NVR), once I completed that setup it started working, so ultimately my issue stemmed from just trying to do everything in app not realizing there was a setup to configure on device.

    Hi i just put a new reolink nvr in and i can watch the cameras when my phone is connected to the same wifi as the nvr is plugged into on the wifi internet router box the internet provider gave me but when i leave the house and use the app it won’t load any of the cameras or nvr up to view on app, its strange as i have enough reolink nvr in a different house and i just plugged everything in the same and everything works fine
    Can’t seem to find way to make it work
    Some people saying you need the UID enabled on the nvr network settings under advance but my new nvr doesn’t seem to have this option to tick that book
    My other nvr running older software does have this option of click UID and that is clicked to on.
    Any help be appreciated

      @@kk-pz8gn i found out the problem, it was the wifi hub router the nvr was plugged into it with the cable , the routers had 4 ports and it was a new router and for some reason the service provider only allowed the first port to be used for the first month then they activate the other three at a later date .. strange i know never heard of such a thing before, but i removed the lead and plugged it into the working port 1 and it worked after that, it was down the the internet provider not enabling all 4 ports.
