- DIY retractable paper bead roller, using a koki or sharpie marker and a split pin. It's as easy as that, and promises to be so much of fun. At the cost of this, you can afford to make one for all your kids and teach them a new craft as well.

Put BICARBONATE OF SODA (used in baking) into the barrel then pour SUPER GLUE onto the BICARBONATE OF SODA until it's wet. It goes harder and stronger than glass in seconds. But firstly make sure the split pin is in the barrel and positioned correctly. You can thank me later lol. Take care👍😷👍
What an awesome tip. Thanks so much for sharing. I will definitely give it a try
It also gets super hot can cause severe burns so be careful and also use a heat resistant work space
That's a great idea 🎉. I will hunt for markers. Thank you.
I'm going to give that a try also. You must be a chemist! LOL
Here they're called Cutter Pins......loved your video!
I have just discovered how these beads are made and excited to start! Converting the marker barrel is fantatic. Yes, a game changer indeed!
Thanks so much.
Sannie, I admire how your mind works! And it is apparently always working. Thank you for sharing cost effective ways to do our arts and crafts.
Thank you so much!
In the US the split pin is called a "Cotter Pin". Great video! Thank you!!
❤💜❤💜
Thank you
Thank you! I’ve been trying to remember the name of that pin
By far the best video I've seen for making a bead rolling tool.
Such a clever way to make those roller beads. A great way to roll cereal box beads. Merci 😊
Glad you like them!
Thanks for your videos on making a beautiful bead roller. Now I can finish making my beads. What I have is hurting my hands. i have made so many and different colors now I got to start making things I am so excited thanks again have a good day and please. Please be careful.
You are so welcome!
YOU'RE A GENIUS, all the paper bead roller i got are short ones...a pack of 5 came with about the same half and 1 inch and was not going to buy more, now i will be able to make larger bead without my fingers hurting. thank you.
Thanks so much
Great idea! another way to make a grip handle for your bead roller is to use the crochet hook sleeves, they are made with a softer material so it makes it easier on the hands and fingers
That's a great idea! I will definitely try it
😂😂😂I stoped at 12:29 - about you keeping dead pens! I just looked in the drawer at my collection! You are not alone!💝😇💝
I CAN NOT THANK YOU ENOUGH. I have make dozens of bead rollers over the years, most of them with the medal pens you use, but I have used old ink pens and the bake clay, but Thank you for your wonderful idea of using the dried up markers. they are so much more comfortable then a ink pen to hold and roll. I have bought rollers, but they have then handles and the metal rollers are not long enough for the bigger beads. Again Thank You.
You are so welcome!
Just came across your channel, this is a genius idea! Thank you for sharing, loved you video and yes very 007! 😀
You are a Genius, this is so clever. I'm so glad I happened on your video. Like you I have dried up markers, all I need to do it get some cotter/split pins, then I will be making these, they will be great to use to teach kids to make paper beads. Thank You for sharing your time, and your talent with all of us.
Glad it was helpful!
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant! Ty for sharing! I also have always endeavored to create thing’s from what I have on hand, mostly for financial reasons, but I find great satisfaction in doing so. This is very 007, in the best possible way. I love your enthusiasm and your laughter is beautiful to my ear’s! I look forward to finding your video for the glazing, as this has always been a struggle for me in creating beads of many different mediums. I can never have too many beads and will try your invention hopefully soon. 🙏🌻
Thank you so much for your kind and sincere words
Thanks a million.
Thank you for this idea 💡
How ingenious, I love it. I will be making me one of these.
Go for it!
Thank you so much!!! I just got my split pins last night from hubby’s box. Wondering how to fix them with a handle.
Girl you are genius 🎉❤
I made mine tonight I poured wood glue in the pen portion and placed the cotter pin inside top portion and love it that you fits in hand great and the bead comes out lovely. Used 3 pieces of paper I copied from grandson child reader ! Thank you! ❤
That is fantastic. It will last for years and provide many hours of fun. Enjoy
Thanks to you I'll be able to keep track of it too! Love how you stored yours! Take care and many blessings to you and family and friends!!
Where do you find a cotter pin? What is that. TIA
This is genius, making our own bead rollers without any fussing about and recycling our old pens. I just need to find longer cotter pins in various diameters in the Uk. Thank you so much for sharing 🤩🫶🥰
Thanks for showing this. Etsy is selling something that looks exactly like what you have made - 2 of them for $20. I will look for a thin tube to put my pin into and use gorilla glue to fill it up. Then I'm going to put it into my electric drill and roll beads by pulling a trigger.
Only a pleasure.
Yes more videos PLEASE sannie kia ora kk rotorua new zealand 🇳🇿 ❤️ 😍 ♥️
I have made rollers with split pins but I never thought of using the pens as a barrel for it. I have got them up to 5mm of diameter. Thanks for sharing.
How clever Sannie…. I will definitely make one with an old tired sharpie…. Thank you!!
Please do!
In the US they are called "cotting pins." Found in hardware stores (ie stores that carry lumber, screws, nails, paint etc.)
That's right
this is a great idea Santhini, every one has an old sharpie and my hubs has split pins yay!!
Yay! Thank you!
Way to go, smart girl. very cool. 😃
Thank you 🤗
WOW thank you, thank you, thank you. i teach crafts at the seniors and mental health centres. now i can afford to teach bead making classes. here in canada the split pin is called a cotter pin. bought at hardware stores. as for your pens, take them apart, set aside the cap and outer case for another project. cover the ink filler with beads, glue on a decorative jewlery finding to seal the ink in and done.
Cant wait to find older markers and make these with cotter (split) pins. Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea!
I tried one and it works so well. I am also going to try with skewers
You are so welcome!
You are most welcome
Wonderful, genius idea! I have dried up sharpies! I'm betting we can make this much faster than it takes to order it!
A side note. The dried-up tips still have at least one use that I know of. I believe it is to make your own alcohol inks. There are videos on it. Not totally positive it's alcohol inks, but it is an ink and it was really simple.
Oh yes, as I saw another commenter. In the US, the split pin is called a cotter pin.
Absolutely I have used the tips for alcohol ink. They work amazingly well
Genius! I just showed my husband so her can make these! Awesome!
Thank you
Using a dried out marker to make a paper beading tool is an absolutely brilliant idea. I have a set of bead rollers that I purchased years ago but I wanted to get some now for my grandchild. Unfortunately they have gone way up in price. I love to recycle and reuse what is normally considered trash so your creation is perfect and solves my dilemma. Like yourself, I also keep dried out markers, pens and many other things since in my opinion you never know if you will find a use for something. I've seen several other tutorials on making beading tools but your idea is by far the best. I can't wait to get some cotter pins so I can make my own set. Thank you for sharing. 😊
This is so amazing. It's easy and quick. Thank u so much for sharing. I got some dried up pens and markers. I can't wait to make some bead rollers. Thank u sooo much. 🇿🇦
So glad that you found this useful
Thank you
Thank you for the tutorial. I will definately try this.
Have fun!
Hi Sannie thank u for your brilliant tutorial,
You’re welcome 😊
I recently made really round paper beads from cereal boxes
They are really awesome to make

Glad you like them!
I totally agree!
What a cool tool idea, I looove it ❤ Thank you from Nette in Denmark
You are so welcome!
Fascinating video. I’ve been watching videos on making paper beads and want to give it a try. I think your idea of making a bead roller is ingenious and I will try making one. Thanks for sharing.🌻
You are most welcome. Thank you so much for the compliment
In the UK the pins are called Cotter pins! Excellent video, thank you.
Thanks so much
HA!!….I knew I would find a use for all of those dried up markers! 💃🏻
Right?!
Genius! Been searching to find an idea how to make one, seen a few but this is really quick and easy! thank you for sharing your genius idea!
You are so welcome!
What a clever idea. I made one with polymer clay and put one cotter pin on each end but I think that I like this idea even better! I love it! Thank you 🎉
Thanks so much
I very much appreciate that you shared this tip with us. I can’t wait to make my own!
It is worth a try
You are so welcome!
Wonderful idea 💡
Thank you! 😊
Good idea! Thank you!...
You are welcome!
I love this idea! I've watched others make them by drilling into wood and I don't want to go to all that trouble just to make some beads for me. This is so quick and easy! I'm going to the hardware store today and go through my markers for the drier ones. Thank you so much for showing us this.
Thank you, Debbie
Any old biro or pen will do. It doesn’t have to be a marker.
You made my day!!! Thank you sooo much for sharing this video with us, you are pure genius!! I was breaking my head to find a way to make my personal paper bead roller and.....voilà!! I buyed the quilling ones, but they don't work as I would like to and I don't find in Amazon Italy what I am looking for. I started few days ago to make paper beads and I got the solution to this problem just today thanks to you. I am sorry for my English that is a little bit rusty, I hope I wrote everything in the correct way. Good bless you👍🧡🤗🌹🇪🇸🇮🇹 Subscribed and 👍
You are most welcome. Enjoy
This is absolutely awesome lm just start out so the was right on time 😊thank you😊
I just made paper beads the first time last week. I love it. I used a skewer. But this looks like a handy tool!
fantastic. hope you try it out
Brilliant!
Thank you
Thank you, I’m making these , what a great idea
Oh my thank you so much,I’m using those pins just like they come but it hurts my hands, I’m going to try it
Good luck!
Je kunt ook nog wat Hot Glue in de punt van de stift laten lopen om de splitpen vast te zetten, mocht deze mee gaan draaien.
Dank voor het delen.

Hi Sannie, wow thank you very much for sharing this video & this awesome idea, i've been searching for ways to make beads, that could be easier as i have odd but painful popping with my thumbs & Arthritis issues, but i enjoy creating my own beads, i am so excited about using this type of pins, i just now bought some on Amazon, as split pins they didn't pop up, they are called Cotter pins.
Hahahaha I thought of James Bond also. We in the USA call them Cotter pins . Don’t know why. Mr. Cotter invented it
🤣🤣
Excellent! I am just about to make alcohol ink using sharpies. Now I have a use for the barrels. I even have the pins already.
They’re called Cotter Pins in the US they can be found at hardware store. I’ve got a temporary tool I’m interested in seeing if I can make a handle for mine
Good luck
@@SannieCreatesI did it! I showed the ladies that I craft with too they were amazed
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I'm definitely going to make some .
You are so welcome!
Keep saving those old dried up markers! You can make your own alcohol ink with them. Treasure Books has a really great tutorial on that!

Thank you so much 😊
Absolutely fabulous!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!❤
You are so welcome!
What a great idea. I love making paper beads but they are a struggle as I've been using a 1/8 inch dowel rod. And I have 2 empty Sharpie pens so I will be trying your method. Thank you for such a great share.
Thank you
Did the Sharpie pens work?
@@tonisback absolutely, I have been using it for years now
Such a great idea! Thank you for sharing! Also I saw a video on Treasure Books page where she uses the inards of the dried up markers to make homemade alcohol inks!
Absolutely I have tried that and it works beautifully

@@SannieCreates You know I am going to try it! Thanks
Split pins= cotter pins 💝
Yes
I would have liked to see your beads closer up .👍
Aww I am so sorry. Maybe I need to do a series on it
Cotter pins!
If you slide the paper into the loop end they go in great .I hope this helps 😌
Thanks Nancy. I am definitely going to try that.
New subbie. Genius dear!! Please make more paper beads tutorials. I shared this video. 🐞 Namaste 🥰
Just curious, Am I missing something? Why does it have to be a sharpie pen barrel?... wouldn't any sort of pen barrel work? Or is there some reason of why it must be a sharpie?
🥀🤗🥀
Hi there. It doesn't need to be a Sharpie. As long as your pin can fit into the barrel of the pen, it will work
Hi Sannie that is a very cool idea!! I have the split pins and ill hang on to this idea till i have a dry sharpie, but i for some reason also hang onto dry pens lol i had to laugh coz someone else does the same thing i do. Im in the cape where abouts in South Africa are you?
Yes sannie more vids an genius ideas I applaud you kk from new zealand 🇳🇿
Je voudrais juste savoir où chercher ses goupilles fendue, car sinon comment travailler ces perles dont vous nous parlez, ces ma première vidéo et je me suis abonné pour vous suivre
You can find them in a hardware store
Love the DIY paper Roller!!! Thank you!!!
I bought some years ago but they are too small and they are too expensive for 1 thanks for the idea I’m on my way to lowes😅
Got it! Bought the bag that has all sizes! Thank you!
Awesome
Moro no Brasil e fiquei fascinada por seus vídeos. Qual o nome dessa ferramenta e onde comprar? Obrigado ❤ 🌹
Hi Marci. You can try finding the pins in your local hardware store and use a hollow pen barrel to make it
Thin handles
❤❤❤merci
maybe try ink pen glue in end
will try
I would love to make the tool but I cannot get the Sharpie to come apart. I’ve tried everything and it won’t budge. Am I missing something?
Hi Kathy. Not that I am aware of. They are a bit hard to open but not impossible. I have opened numerous of them. Have you tried using a pliers?
@@SannieCreates thanks for the reply. I tried some other sharpies and was able to get them apart quite easily. But the first two I tried were almost impossible to open. But I finally got them all, so I’m good. Thank you!
I must have missed it, but how did you get the cotter pin inside the marker
I pulled the marker apart. I then added the cotter pin from the top of the nib part and pulled it through with a pliers.
@@SannieCreates thank you
Mine won't come apart (sigh)
How to seal the bead?
I will be making a video on that shortly
