Music cures the soul. Good to play, better to watch, best to listen and learn!
Don't be depressed. Think of the sick and the needy. Think of the blessings we have. I know it's got to be really difficult. Kindly try.

Two of the best acoustic guitar players you’ll ever see
Jorma and David Bromberg would like to have a word, LOL! No, but I get what you are saying!

@@Terbie36 It was a joke..."LOL" means "Laugh Out Loud", as in when one makes an attempt at humor. You should try it sometime, it can be quite fun.
Billy reminds of a young Stevie Ray Vaughn .... Not so much in style but he's just got that same vibe and the ability to have the respect of veteran guitarists and give that respect right back ..... A once in a generation talent
There’s a lot of similarities between those two and Dimebag Darrell

Billy asks Tommy: "What are we gonna play?" Billy's guitar wasn't even tuned. That shows us there was no preparation for this. And then he rips into inprov. with one of the greatest guitarists on the planet. What a prodigious talent.
If he keeps picking that thing it won't ever get well!

Let me be the first to congratulate Tommy on his Grammy award this evening.
Billy is one of the most fearless improvisers to join Tommy onstage. Totally an E-ticket ride.
Hello Alan how are you doing to I hope you are safe and in good health... I'm Patti from California.
I was thinking the same thing, the kid must have monster balls to get up there with TE, but that kid Billy is amazing!
@@allan2098 - Billy is not shy. He's very similar to Tommy from a psych standpoint. Playing is EVERYTHING.
Joscho and billy are great improvisers
Who's number two?
Billy plays faster, cleaner lines than the best tele players....while playing an acoustic. Insanity. Tommy goes without saying :) What a joy to hear these two gents play together.
Andy has to keep his action High because he picks so hard even more insanity
I always thought if Tommy and Billy met they would both explode like two galaxies colliding.
It's our modern bluegrass Chet and Jerry, folks. That last break that Tommy initiated was mental.
No stomp boxes, no effects. Just two very clean guitars kicking some serious ass!
Sounds way better than any electric guitar playing in my opinion, and I'm a big Led Zep and PF fan but I always prefer the acoustic.
Tommy and Billy could fuel a nuclear plant with all the energy they put into music! What a fabulous duet!
@marian koniuszko n
fuel a nuclear plant... too funny!
It must be so joyful to be able to play like this ! They are so lucky🤓
Yes yeah no
😂
Not since Roy Clarke, Glenn Campbell, & Jerry Reed have we had so much fun, jammin on Guitars!
Right on there.
Respect to billy, he held his own with the greatest living guitarist Tommy.
NOT to make comparisons, but, ummmm, I think he outdid Tommy, IMHO. Billy's licks were every bit as fast, but so much clearer and deliberate and a bit more musical. IMHO.
@@aaronheine3517 No he isn't.
There is no 'best', music is subjective stop being a fanboy.
TE is just different, and plays with swing and expression which some people prefer instead of being robotic.
@@aaronheine3517 I always feel bad about such comparisons; Tommy E. has been such an astonishing talent and musical blessing to me, but fingers get older; that's just the way of it. Some young guy will have my job one day, too! Everything I've seen of Billy is that he's respectful of the past, as one who stands on its shoulders should be!
And, in fairness, they are not from precisely the same musical foundation, so their talents also vary.
@steveandsarahrutledge9105 well, you are wrong)
You get on stage with Tommy, you better have your shit together. And Billy does. Bravo.
What I want to play the guitar so bad but its scarey to watch how they play I could never ever ever make my fingers do what theres do!!! I would die for fingers and talent in guitar playing like both those guys!!!! Wow!!!
You aren't alone, watch guitar teachers and musicians react to Tommy's playing. Most simply say that they can't do what he's doing...
@@thomasgreen4712 feed the feeling...get comfortable with the idea that you will suck...get to work...and if playing like this remains your goal, it’s possible in 10-15 years. (You could be playing covers of these songs within 2-3 years, but to actually attain mastery on the instrument where you could improvise, compose, and perform at this level it’s 10-15). With the pandemic, you got nothin but time mate ;)
I watched a Chet Atkins documentary o here a week ago and when people were talking about him they basically said what everyone in these comments are. I could never do. But yes. Yes you can. I can play Tommy’s tunes, granted not as great as he does, but I can. In that Chet documentary someone, his name escapes me currently, said “well I can’t be impossible. He’s playing it.” Take it a measure at a time if you have to. You can play it. You just can’t play it right now.
@@adamlaxmusic I mostly agree with you, but some things, most just physically can't do. Like when Tommy's version of Classical Gas, where he anchors his thumb on the Low 'E' string, and moves his fingers over a 5 fret range. There might be a work around but it's pretty amazing. Love a reviewer who basically said he physically couldn't do that, and that it required 10's of thousands of hours to learn.
Love discussing this, as I get to listen to this wonderful collaboration each time!
It’s almost like they’re having a conversation with their guitars! It’s amazing
I think they are man...
Almost?
That's called musical fluency.
they are
Они черти, слишком круто для людей.. :-))
I am 80-years-old yet you have set my soul on fire once more, Tommy.
It's refreshing to know that I can still move that fast! Thanks a million.
Tommy knows what to do when his mate is taking the action, he lowers his volume. Such a big honor for his fellow musician.
And proper jam etiquette that so many at local jams don’t do in their quest to drown everyone out
And Billy does the exact same when sharing a stage with up and coming young musicians. It’s all about the music
The respect Tommy has for the new generation, fair play to the man
It's because his idol was Chet Atkins and when Tommy was young Chet went out of his way to be kind to Tommy and encourage him. Now he gets to do the same for Billy
There are not many guys out there who can play at tommys level...... billy totally nailed 🔥
He most definitely deserves to be on stage with Tommy. Very few could say that.

A world where we find such amazing musicians is a world that's worth saving. Thank you Billy Strings and Tommy Emmanuel for this incredible gathering ! Man !
I’m listening to this on the 1 year anniversary of my Grandpas passing. He loved Billy Strings! I’m going to make sure I play some Billy Strings every July 3rd!
Hello 👋 Mark. How are you doing? Hope you are fine, I'm Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where you are from? You seem like a real country girl
This will turn out to be a historic video. Old lion, young lion. Beautiful !
The clarity of Billy Strings and the way Tommy enhanced and not diminished his talent is a testament to the love of the music that Tommy has. Well done Billy Strings I love your free uninhibited flowing style.
amen and amen.
Tommy plays faster but Billy’s picking is about as clean as it gets. How they can hop onstage together, no rehearsal, having never played together before, and pull THIS off is a question for the philosophers
Tommy is one of four known Certified Guitar Players of all time, crowned by Chet Atkins himself!! I wonder if he could bestow that honor down to Billy?! He is most definitely deserving!!
There’s so much genius going on here…the banter/exchange, the challenge of the old dude to the punk kid, but in the best way. Tommy tries to toy with him a bit, and Billy retorts let’s just play and have fun. Keep up!
Я думал с дедом играет его дочь или внучка !
Billy was amazing here... Near the end, Tommy rushed up the tempo during his solo... and Billy crescendoed and stay right in the pocket.. then Tommy soloed and kept the timing the same for him. Billy even picked up on the smoke on the water part.... He is great at playing with other people... what an ear! What great timing!
Thank you guru
This is what happens when ego takes a back seat to talent. Magic.
damn, now thats a duo..
So this vid introduced me to Billy. Without a doubt the best young guitarist today who definitely deserves to be onstage with Tommy.
I know everybody’s a Tommy fan, but Billy was just as good. Just imagine when he’s Tommy’s age.
4:28 is epic. Not the music, but the harmony between them. All falls into place!
The music is epic too☺
I don't know how many times I have watched this video. And it's been a little bit since the last time I watched it. But here I am again. It never gets old. Love it 😎
I don't always witness greatness, but when I do it's tommy and billy!
What amazes. E about Tommy Emmanuel is that when he plays rhythm guitar, his percussive embellishments make the other guitarist sound even better than they already do.
Billy is the exact same way! Brings out the best in his fellow players. That’s the sign of a truly great musician
Fantastic. It's so nurturing of TE to let the young guy shine and make great music together instead of trying to blow him away. It shows what kind of a person TE is. Nobody enjoys playing guitar more than him.
That's not just any young guy.
@@bbunters Of course, he's truly amazing, too. But more often than not a big name won't allow anyone else to shine so much. TE could have easily amped up his own playing and hogged the solos, especially on his signature song Guitar Boogie, but he appears to enjoy playing WITH this guy instead of asserting his own stardom.
the man is truly a gift to all guitar players. I met him and he is absolutely right on! My greatest mentor. GOD BLESS MR TOMMY!
@@stevesheldon8616 Billy seems easygoing and likeable. He produces a nice, round tone. Unbelievable note separation, very good clarity and power. Everyone could benefit by playing with him.

Fu**ing amazing. Such a good jam. When he sprung that fast section on Billy during working man, he handled it like a true champ.
4:56 is absolutely the most important (and incredible) moment; "Stay there."

Absolutely! I saw that too!
I am partial to 3:51 to 3:59. Absolute magic.
Love the way Billy Strings plays. He holds his own with any bluegrass player in history for my money.
Uh... are you from Pennsylvania by chance?
My aunt has exactly the same name.
😎🇺🇸
Yes ! Including Jerry Reed, Roy Clark, Sonny Landreth, Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, etc. . . Frightening speed !
Wow! Billy's finger/fret work is so astonishingly clean at that high speed. He's so often striking the board from so high to get that amazing stacatto sound. Well, Imma try to do whatever I do today with the same zeal Billy plays guitar!
Its stunning. I could watch him play on mute and still be blown away.
You know you've made it when you get on stage with the legendary Tommy...
Billy’s picking is cleeeeeeeean…wow
If there is a player, in this generation, that would be considered for the honour of being referred to as a CGP... it’s Billy. Simply amazing....I am sure Chet is looking down with a huge smile watching these two have fun.
Chet could convey the same depth of feeling playing 1/4 as many notes. But it's all good when you get to this league.
@@johntechwriter Give the young bloke some time to get there.
Yo, learn from the seniors, watch listen compare....and learn....you'll be glad you did !!!!
I can’t tell you how many times I just put this on to feel better. The smiles on both say it all.
You and me both! Just uplifting.
👍
My deceased daddy played guitar and he & mom played dances. He would LIVE THIS!!! HERE'S to you daddy!
Doppietta che fuoco
Loved the way Tommy gave Billy the foundation to shine
You do those kind of things when you’re confident enough in yourself to where you don’t have to show everybody how great you are because everybody already knows how good Tommy is anyway
@@ljbull33 I was referring to the musicianship. The level of musicianship. Like the musicians who support each other. It has nothing to do with greatness or everybody knowing how great you are. Even new musicians experience this. My uncle helped a 4 year old set up his pillow, pots and pans drum kit, beside his Ludwig kit. Band practice in my Grandparents living room. Vocalist, Double Bass, electric guitar, drums and a horn section, trumpet, tenor sax, piano, plus a 4 year old on pillow drums. I played with my uncles band for years.
Hearing actual good music today is a treat unto itself. This is just rip-roaring, musical-bonering madness. This is an example of how good music can get.
Not too many kids, these daze, can keep up with Tommy Emmanuel
I am BLOWN AWAY . There should be smoke coming from their fingers! What an amazing showmanship of skill and artistry. I was smiling the whole time... New fan of them both, new and older. 🔥🔥
.............. And all off the cuff. They are just feeding off each other. Just jamming away and making it look easy.

Growing up in Spartanburg, SC I remember watching Arthur Smith, who was born just down the road in Clinton, SC, on his Saturday show from Charlotte. Nice job by these 2 extremely talented men paying homage.
Hey Ken. Raised just outside of Charlotte. Folks do not realize the effect Arthur had on rock, soul, country, and BEACH MUSIC. From James Brown to Maurice Williams, Hazel Martin, then over to the bluegrass and old mountain styles. A man about everything. As a kid remembered his musicians Don Reno, David Deese, Wayne Haas, Ray Atwood and his wife, Tommy Faile, 'brother Ralph', George Hamilton iv, Donald Ange (keyboards) and others. Arthur Smith and the Crackerjacks, later "Carolina Calling" with Jim Patterson. Big lists, big names like Roy Clark, Glen Campbell, Ronnie Milsap, and even actor George Hamilton appeared on his show. His brother Sonny was also a big influence in their beginnings. Roots of regional American music, Arthur Smith.
@@sandburgmartin7947 You are so right. I remember "Carolina Calling." I am 64, and I used to love to watch the locally produced music shows. Can't get those anymore. Tommy and Billy went for a deep cut here.
@@sandburgmartin7947 you really took me back in time. Beach music and the Shag were popular when I was a teenager around town. Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs played a Christmas party at my work in 1978. He was pretty old by then. They must have played STAY about 6 times that night. 🙂
Simply incredible. Two musicians that have mastered the guitar picking so well , meeting up and playing with each other and not trying to out do the other. Just so grateful and blessed that both talents came along in my lifetime.
It makes my heart a little lighter to see these young cats keeping it alive and taking it to new heights. When you call yourself Billy Strings you better bring it and boy did he ever!
