If you enjoy The Blues check out a channel, Traveler into The Blue, think that's correct, close enough- you'll be amazed at his collection- Namaste from Geez, Mr. Zappa, It's Morning Already! ( Frank Zappa supposedly protested when Dylan went electric- are you that old, you remember? Rubbish then, rubbish now- play Pete Seeger doinging The Bells of Rhymney then play it by The Byrds- magnificent both ways! Enjoy your weekend. I have played guitar and recorded myself and the bands I've been in. I'm a blues player. Good music is good music. Billy is an incredible talent. I was concerned that there was nobody coming up. He is a true American treasure. Like SRV, Bod Dylan, EVH, Doc Watson Elvis, Bob Wills, Jimi, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Satchmo Armstrong, Eric Johnson, BB King, Asleep at the Wheel, and other American born talent. We have so much music to be grateful for. And Billy and his super talented friends are a national treasure.

I have to say, Billy Strings has really built up a solid foundation of dedicated fans in a relatively short amount of time! I've been listening and playing this type of music a fairly long time. Don Julin, the mandolin player here, helped me produce the Comando CDs back in the late 90s when the web was young and mandolin players communicated on the Comando listserver. The Mandolin Cafe came around about the same time and a lot of us found out about Nickel Creek and a young mandolin virtuoso named Chris Thile around 1998 or so. Their self titled debut CD was very popular and they too developed a strong following that still exists today. Their songs showed maturity way beyond their years coupled with virtuoso musicians. Basically, Chris Thile reinvented what people thought possible on the mandolin and inspired a whole host of young super pickers, both men and women who are blazing their own traditional music / newgrass trails. In the early 80s, a very young and hungry multi instrumentalist named Tim Obrien left his native Wheeling WV to head west and form Hot Rize. Since then, he has collaborated with many artists including a powerful duo with Darrell Scott where they have made a couple records containing very strong material. Tim is a first class songwriter, musician and performer and has earned his place among the giants. My question is, neither Thile or Obrien ever seemed to get the amount of popularity that Billy Strings has achieved over the past 5 years or so, even though both have catalogues that are equal or even superior IMO? The music business is a profoundly strange place, I guess and I hope all 3 continue their successful careers for many years to come!
