simple and easy user manual, thanks.:)
Thank you for feedback
I had a 1.9 ddis on a 09 reg it was great i never used the 4wd i n low or high it didnt ever need using even in snow i used 4h mode normal 4x4 mode it was adequate in that for me. A great car just heavy on fuel as always in 4x4 .
Is this 1.9 ddis diesel engine reliable???I heard many problems ...What about the 2l petrol?

Thank you for this insightful video, makes the 4 wheel drive mode easily to understand on the GV, even for a idiot like myself.
You are welcome
Another trick to use on this vehicle when the going gets really tough is to switch automatic power on (next to the gear shift). What this does is to delay the automatic gear change. In other words, the vehicle stays in 1st gear for longer before shifting to 2nd gear. This applies to the remaining gears as well and is especially useful for towing. I find it great for tackling sand dunes.
Thanks Paul!
Hoh! I never knew where that button was for. It always seemed to shift smoother while driving in the mountains at curves, now i know why.
Is it possible to use 4H lock on paved icy roads for better grip? Is there also a speed limit to using 4H lock? Great video!

Well , on my 2011 JX Grand Vitara ... I use the N position and transmission do propel the vehicule ... I think it works on propulsion only or maybe front traction only ... but it does propulse mine ... so ???? something wrong here ???
Cyr anoff there is no power to axles. Shouldnt drive
make sure the wheels r pointing straight ahead when u do anything with the transfer case.

Thanks I stumbled across a used one of these. Was interested how the 4wd system operates. the engine is longitudinal layout also. That's a very, VERY nice and practical setup. I think one could make a little monster of a trail hiker. 🤔 Then get decent mileage on the hwy also.

Hello from another Grand Vitara in the GTA.
Happy Holidays my friend!
slightly helpful.
what is the line to the left on 'N'?
is there a 2wd mode?
ON ....First N option my car beep and show me L, 4 wheel lock light that glowing after few seconds what is the problem this please explain and guide me
Thats the definitive guide. Drive your GV in neutral at your own peril lol
Please do a video about the horrible factory light output from the headlights. I upgraded to LED and it helped but barely. I bypassed the stupid adapter piece for the halogen bulb and cut the wires and installed the H7 connecter so it’s now directly plugged in without adapter. I’m going to buy new headlight housings and see if light output is improved.
Is it better now?
@@vojtik1234 I never bought new ones. Too expensive and I have to take the front grill and bumper off. I just keep them clean as possible because they are hazed and faded some.

Is it harmful for the gearbox to drive too long with the vehicle in neutral?
Obviously! But what is the One beside the N for? it is a switch you hold on but comes off when you let go??
Then, why is the position N for?
When you want to tow the car you put it in N
The answer is right because you left the rear wheel free
What about neutral N?
im also looking the answer to
Its not neutral its normal its front or rear wheel drive
@@aliabuamer3208 you are incorrect. It's for towing not driving
@@antonio3736So 4H should be the default position for driving? Does it cause any damage if you drive in N?

If you need to tow your vehicle - it put your transfer case into N and disconnect drivetrain
What happens to the transmission system when it is in Lock mode? ie Does the central diff lock?
In case of the Grand Vitara yes because it's not coming standard with a rear or front limited slip differential which could be locked separetly, just like in a Mercedes Benz G Class
A centre diff lock still makes it twice as capable as the standard 4H, which is essentially AWD. Obviously a rear diff lock would be better and make it a beast. They are not that difficult to fit.
front and rear torque split is 50/50
I miss having a choice of affordable off road vehicles available to purchase. There aren't many left except for a bunch of soft roaders.
What about N ... And when we can use it ... And if we can uset for a long time ... ????
Solution fo eco fule?
My escudo 2007 is showing a blinking 4wd light when I am driving with 4L lock it blinks and give sound every 20 seconds could you please explain if that is normal
The system is having a malfunction, this is not normal
do not drive in 4l lock unless off road in mud
Hi I have a grand Vitara and I love it. I want to ask you guys if it's possible to drive all the time using the neutral setting instead of 4H all the time. I was wondering if being in neutral setting saves on gas.
"Stop the vehicle completely, place the transmission in “N” (Neutral) and depress the brake pedal and the clutch pedal fully (if equipped), then push in and turn the switch to the mark (1) at the left of the “N” position, and hold the switch in this posi- tion for 5 seconds until the “N” indicator blinks, then turn the switch to the “N” position.
When you turn the transfer switch to the “N” position, “N” indicator will come on with the buzzer sound."
it takes the above to actually engage Neutral and you can't drive it this way. it is meant for towing only
@@eden5260 oh I see. Very interesting. Thanks eden5260

What is the neutral for?
when you want to pull the vehicle, for example if it needs to be towed, or pull it behind a motorhome.
I bought a Suzuki Grand Vetra from few months ago and i would ask you about N position
If i choose it what happened?
You put transfer case in Neutral... usually done when you need to tow your vehicle
@@NewRoad Oh really , I thought it would separate the front differential gear for the rear-wheel drive , so that i put in position N from few months 🤐 and i don't know about it
@@joker911v8 ita permanent 4wd. There is no rwd

What is the N for? Help please.
For towing
what the maximum speed you should not exeed at 4h lock
I always suggest to refer to your year/model owner manual. From what I know - I would not exceed 100 km/h (60 mph)
What does the N - neutral do?
For when you are towed
It disengages differentials , like when you want to pull your Grand Vitara to Florida behind your motor home
What is N for? Rear wheel drive only?
Neuttral
It is permanent 4wd
What's the two neutral settings purpose?
the Neutral on the automatic tranmission is a normal neutral.
the neutral on the 4WD transfer box, is to totall disable the transfer box, in case of being towed be another vehicle like a motorhome.
Which one is 2wd?
Hi, what is N in that switch? Is that 2WD mode?
The gv is always in 4x4 it hasnt got 2wd rhats the problem its heavy on fuel because of that i had a diesel 1.9 td and only got 28mpg going steady.
@@garywinterbottom4930 so why it is drivable even it is in Neutral mode in switch.pls reply me.im going to buy a Suzuki GV.
@@dcm4700
N mode is for towing, to reduce strain on the 4x4 system. If it's still driveable then it's actually still in 4H mode.
@@carl8568 so is it a failture or malfunction in transfer switch?
@@dcm4700
There is a specific procedure to properly initiate N mode, I tried it last night in my GV. You can turn the switch to N and nothing will happen, you need to select neutral with shifter and then twist knob as far left as it will go and hold it for 5 seconds. The transfer will then take place and all drive will be disconnected, which is a setup for towing behind a bus or campervan.
what is the N position for?
Neutral
N is RWD or it has permanent 4wd?
permanent, that is why trackers get better millage, they run on rears in 2wd
can i drive with N because i found it the best mode

@@farhorizonz Indeed! :d
Where are the difflocks on front and rear axel?
blixtkrig - There are none on this car. They have open front and rear diffs and a lockable diff in the centre instead of a proper transfer-case. As a (crappy) alternative to difflocks, this type of Vit has traction control which applies braking to a slipping wheel in an attempt to send power to the other wheel.
Only transfer case locks, diffs are open but provide limited slip via the ABS control module, applying the brakes on the slipping wheel
Which vehicle in this price and size has a better 4wd system?
@@nadeemahmed324 ,none, it has 2 limited slip diffs via ABS, and a HI/LO center locking transfer case, unibody on ladder frame....
What year is that?
2011, 3rd generation

Its sort of confusing as says you need to be still to shift from 4wl to 4wh but then says can be under 60klm to shift? So is only shifting back on move and stationary to engage?
always be stationary when engaging or disengaging Low range gearing.
What is the 'N' setting for?
If you need to tow your vehicle - it put your transfer case into N and disconnect drivetrain
What is the N position for?
Neutral - In this position, engine power is not supplied to the front or rear axles. Only use this position for towing your vehicle.

Mert Güz for being towed
How to use only 2wd in vitara ?
You can't, it's always 4x4
What is the N for?
Neuttral, towing
Please explain "Push ESV Off" button, it does nothing...use not described clearly in owners manual.
I've had my 2008 for a good while. I live in the snowebelt and itsva beast! I have NO idea what that button does lol!

From 4H to 4H LOCK
You can operate the transfer switch either when the vehicle is stopped or while the vehicle is moving.
Position the front wheels straight ahead and turn the switch to shift into “4H LOCK”.
If the vehicle is moving, we recommend that the speed be less than 100 km/h (60 mph) during this operation.
CAUTION:
Do not operate the transfer switch while tires are racing.
when not moving, perfect.
never change to lo lock when moving
