A similar situation to this happened to me a while back. My husband became angry with me while we were on a beach one day. Back then, I had recently discovered that he was having an affair with another girl so I tried to start the conversation with him about how I knew what he was doing. He started screaming at me for having gone through his phone and that it was none of my business. I never even raised my voice because I was so heartbroken. He started shoving me while yelling till I stood up and started walking away. He got up and started pushing me down on the sand and got me into an arm chokehold to where I couldn't breathe.
Luckily, two men came over to my aide and helped separate us. I'm forever thankful to them. I'm now separated from my husband. This is the tip of the iceberg of how he acted, especially in private. Please help out a stranger if you ever see them in this situation in anyway you can.

Don't judge people without knowing about their circumstances.
Men are not heroes. They just want to go about their ordinary lives, without any trouble. And they are being judged for that?
They are being judged because they are being cautious in this world, that is becoming increasingly sketchier by the day, and because they want to preserve their peaceful days by not leaping into something that could end up spelling trouble? They are bad people because they want no hassle?

Three young men saw what was going on and stopped in the middle of the road, all got out and ran to my aid. I will never forget screaming for help while being kicked on the ground and other's just walking away and totally ignoring the situation. I will also never forget the three brave young man that stood to protect me in a very violent situation. Men who beat on women are cowards! Stand for other's no matter the situation ... "Better to walk alone, then with a crowd going in the wrong direction."

It's pretty simple, how well you believe you'll handle yourself against the offender is a big factor in the decision to help the victim. If you're a 70 year old you'll most surely not stick your nose in that sort of thing, unless you decide to call the police. Simply because, in your possible scenarios imagined, there's a chance you'll get beat up. If you notice, the only people who attempted to stop the offender were men who appeared to be fairly capable of defending themselves. Notice how those two guys who were together were especially confident and quick to act, they felt their odds were greater.
Humans are very empathetic beings by nature, we work and live in systems of communities after all, It's inherent to us. However, It's also natural that we put our safety first. It's not selfish or evil or worth of despisal, It's simply natural. So to be fair, 20 people in that video could have called the cops and didn't. They could have, but they were just in an "oh screw It's none of my business" or a "oh wth It's just an argue, they'll be ok" or something along those lines, to serve as an excuse for their lack of empathy and/or will to spend resources on something that won't directly benefit them.
This reflects the system we currently live in to some extent.

blaxxxx Look, I never denied these people could at the very least have called the cops. I was just explaining why people reacted like this, because apparently everyone feels like bashing the masses on the internet without ever truly walking in their shoes. Hey from this distance I could kick Clubber Lang's ass too, but it wouldn't look as fun if he was standing right in front of me. I'm not defending their behavior. People are just scared.
You mentioned lack of empathy in humanity. That is due to specific circumstances (people raised in violent environments) and/or inherent mental disorders. By default, we're empathetic. What sense would it make for a race that lives and hunts in groups to NOT be empathetic?

But no one even called 911. Once police drove by and stopped the attack, all but 1 of my attackers escaped. He ended up getting charged with 6 felonies. Not one witness even stepped forward on my behalf. Trust me people, if something happens to you, you mine as well be on a deserted island. You are all alone. On my skin this is 100% true.

We've all heard of a guy who Rob's a bank (one crime) and is caught, he may be charged with multiple charges, same thing goes with DV, one incidence may be considered multiple cases, and then there's the preceived DV, don't get me started.

Alisha Tanner It doesn’t prove selfishness at all! It’s called a fight or flight response. In a situation where you have no time to think it over, you’re most likely to choose flight. It’s not because they’re cruel or selfish, it’s because they’re scared and don’t know what to do. If one was to walk off and then call the police, then that would be helping.

I know it's hard to believe people would ignore blatant abuse right in front of their eyes, but it's actually extremely common. It generally relates to the bystander effect. People have been murdered and people have been assaulted and abused and left for dead purely because people feel as though someone else is going to stop it, or purely because they're uneasy in stepping in. Bunch of psychology bullcrap I learnt last year but it's more common than people think and it's easy for us to judge and be angry at the people who just walk past but it's a lot different when you're confronted first hand with it. Regardless of all that it should be human decency to step in and help the girl out.

    • @wowbenji
      @wowbenji Před 9 lety

yes I had a psychologist in psych 101 take this so far as to truly believe this.
If I passed out and fell to the floor no one in the class would do anything, C'mom I know I would.
Even though over half her class was failing the class ,she took behavioral science so far as to comment to me none of it was their fault..the ones who do good only do so because somewhere along the line they were conditioned to it (like their parents rewarded them or something)..the ones who dd poorly she felt it was cause they did not get rewarded or praised for good grades.
C'mom you think effort, studying or really trying and studying more than most has nothing to do with one's grades while not studying, trying or making an effort has nothing to do with poor grades, Give me a break.
Although a good bit of psychology might be true, with human behavior one cannot really say it is a true science.
Plus this sample looks a little like they are just having a tiff and he is roughhousing..if he was really beating the crap out of her and she was screaming and bleeding etc, people I think, despite the bystander effect, would do something..
Plus it depends on the person who is walking by and whether more than one person get involved..often if one starts to act and others join in, it makes it easier for all of the people to get involved..since this was not real, he despite being a good actor can only go and act so far..someone might have shot him if he took it where real violence goes.
I think if it was real and very out of hand more people would have gotten involved..it did not look like he was really hurting the girl a lot and that may have entered into it too.

    • @sofakingkrewl6457
      @sofakingkrewl6457 Před 9 lety +9

***** Just so people aren't confused by false information, no that isn't the bystander effect. The bystander effect is when there are a lot of people near by, and no one sees anyone else doing anything, so they don't want to stand out and do anything, because they assume someone else will do something and they won't have to stand out. It's transferring responsibility of what is happening to everyone around them, but not themselves.
There have to be more people there for the bystander effect to occur.
These were individuals who did not know what was going on, did not want trouble, and were not asked for help. Even with the bystander effect, if you want help from a person, make them "responsible" for helping you, and ask them specifically for help, you will likely get help. This was not the bystander effect, but she was not asking them specifically for help. She was just yelling and being like "Stop!"
Those people, who don't know them by the way, had to very quickly process several things:
Was the girl's life in immediate danger? Didn't really look like it. Might get hurt, but didn't seem deadly. If it was deadly, she'd be on the ground getting beat the fuck up. It didn't look like a violent fight. And since it wasn't deadly, they saw it as her responsibility to handle, not theirs.
Were they in a relationship? Was that how they fight? Though you don't want to believe it, that is actually how some couples fight. Some couples even slap each other, which people are like GASP OMG ABUSE ABUSE, but the couples never go past that, and their relationship is otherwise functional. They just fight more physically than most couples do. So how is a stranger gonna know that? If they call the cops, they might even be causing trouble for both parties. And they probably didn't feel like asking them, either.
Did she deserve it? What if she had stolen from the guy, or something worse? They don't know. What if he was justified in their opinion (he wasn't using deadly force, after all), and they just caused trouble for him? Again, they are strangers. They don't know either of them. They're just weirdos who they came across while running. Why should they help? Do you know how much crap you'd have to stop and do if you stopped every time there was a "maybe" that popped up?
What if they stopped to help her and the guy had a knife or a gun? Would you put your life in danger for a stranger? What if the potential helper had family and the attacker killed the helper? They would die without ever getting to say their goodbyes to their family.
More strangers (like you) MIGHT call them "heroes" for helping, but that's IF it helped at all, which it might not. You could easily both get killed. You'd risk all that on some woman you don't know who might be getting what she deserves?
What if you helped her, he attacked you, and she ran away and left you there to get your ass kicked or possibly killed? You don't know she wouldn't. She's just a scared person, after all. What, are you gonna blame the "victim" too?
There are a ton of good reasons not to help her.
And the only decent reason for helping her is some childish ideology that the world is a "good place" and you should be a magical superhero for good, because a lady needs saving from the latest proverbial dragon.
Why automatically assume she's a good person who deserves saving? These people are scamming innocent people (the people running past their nonsense) for CZcams views. The social experiment has been done a ton of times. It's even on CZcams already.
And that's the "innocent person" you think they should risk their lives for to stop and help? Again, she didn't even ask for their specific help.

Some scenes did not look violent at ALL, like they were just playfully fighting for example. So no, that's not "enough." Look up the definition of violence, and you'll see that it doesn't mean merely placing your hands upon people like you clearly implied. Stop being so melodramatic about a meager issue like this, please.

+Poseidon "Melodramatic"?? HE PUT HIS HANDS ON HER. It was pretty clear they were not "play fighting." She was screaming "stop" and "leave me alone." For all they know, he could've been a rapist, or a thief. She could have been dead within the next few minutes. It doesn't matter how small the signs may be: it could escalade very quickly. If you're implying that arguments consist of verbal and physical abuse, then I truly feel sorry for you and whomever made you believe so. I've had my fair share of arguments with my husband; but I was never pulled and pushed around like a rag doll. It's clear that she needed help.
