The Yamaha version is amazing & there's even a Hal Leonard Method book for it. Essential Elements for Band Book 1 the Eb Alto (Tenor) Horn Part which along w/ the Eb Treble Clef Tuba, Bb Treble Clef Tuba, Treble Clef Trombone, & Thumb Plate Oboe parts (those are Aux. parts) can be used to Add tone color, which is why they should have them available for books 2 & 3 someday (along w/ a Piano accompaniment part for Book 3 as well) & there's loads of agreement on that. And if they do that they'll need to probally update the Scores too (also they'll have the Piano part written at the bottom).

Does the Willson fit in this group. And how does the JP 372S fare among these thoroughbreds? Finally, which Alliance mouthpiece comes with the Besson?

Trying to find tuning tips specific to horn if there is such a thing, for instance certain instrument tendencies ... Im lead in a section of 4, we all have different horns, all are a little wonky. Mine is a Besson Sovereign..

Hi SimplySavvy, all instruments across the board will have the odd note that needs tuning differently to the next, then when you take different brands into consideration, then it could start to become tricky. The most important thing is that each player learns which notes on their own instrument needs focusing on, whether that be lipping the note or using alternative fingerings. Practicing on your own with a tuner is a hugely beneficial way of learning which notes need work!
      Hope this helps?

Absolutely , & I'll admit you caught me looking for a quick hack but not only bc I haven't been able to get that tuner into the woodshed again like it somehow appears i should.. Didn't seem bad before, but now that we're doubling I feel like I'm always out of tune- yet sometimes it can be hard to tell which one of us it is.. I've always had a great ear & compensating lip but the guy playing with me insists I'm grossly sharp & suddenly I'm having problems. Im not sure how his horn measures to mine (despite playing at a higher level, I'm not as fresh as I used to be on , well all the mechanics , hardware , etc. & playing a secondary instrument (primary French horn til 2016).. maybe he's just flat all the time and trying to make me feel bad , lol. Very hard person to read. I can't tell if he's trying to be helpful or connivingly chomping at the bit for my seat. He gave me some tips on how to use the tuner to get an accurate measure , which , duh, but appreciated reminders .but ..I'm not DUMB . Not sure if I'm being gaslit here or actual intonation issues coming to light..but how could it have been this bad and not come to light before even before doubling ? . Thought it might be helpful to be aware of any recognizable pattern beyond what I know and/or can do with myself , if that makes sense. But I will still go back to the tuner to recheck meticulously. I'm having to set my horn in weird ways, Ive got vale slides falling out , I mean it just isn't right , but the player next to me like shames me about it like it's me- I was principle before he was doubling my part and it was never an issue , we've competed , I mean I feel kike in going crazy .
