  • It's easy to think that to get a great campervan it's got to be a Volkswagen. But when you consider a product like this Hiace conversion from Frontline Campers - www.frontlinecamper.com.au - and the cost saving as a result, it's not quite as easy a decision as you first might think.

Toyota Hiace Campervans are awecome. I had an old one for for years with no trouble at all.
    Nevertheless, $62,000 for a newby!
Seriously! The manufacturers must have been on crack when they set that price!

You are paying for stuff that most people can't do (the wood work). And the manufacturers are taking advantage of that! And does the 60 grand cover a deep cycle camper battery, solar cell and inverter and TV and gas camper shower (which is essential). You can shower outside under the tail gate door. The extras cost me more than the wood when I decked my van out. A few hundred for the wood, glue and varnish etc. and a few grand for all the extras. lol But I bet for 60 grand you only get a gas stove and fridge and that's about it (my guess).
You could buy a brand new empty Hi Ace for like $35 grand and sell for 50 grand and have all the extras, not just a stove, and make 10 grand a month. It probably would take less than a month to deck one out cos it's such a small space, so it's really not that much work.

Great review. Conveys the sense of freedom from social pressures that camper living can provide.

gorgeous vehicle.. i would go for a lift in back... one that sits on the ground or raies to the height of the floor.. sort of a back porch for cooking and barbeque... tent material would enclose for bad weather or privacy...

you can buy from MEXICO left-hand side steering wheel 2013-2015 for 12-16k$ (for 10k$ I could do the much nicer conversion with solar and much more...

The swing out galley is a stupid idea, it takes up all the space and looks untidy (and who wants to cook at the entrance)? Cook at the rear under the tail gate door. Have a galley setup there. You could even make it slide out so you can put other stuff there when you don't need the galley. It's out of the way at the rear, you have roof protection and you could even have a (quick release) tent sides and you have an extra room when it's raining (for galley and shower). That's what I am having on my Town Ace van.

We have a Hiace Adventurer camper. The swing out cooker is a great idea because you aren't cooking in the van. There's also a Fiamma awning which takes only a couple of minutes to set up and covers the entire passenger side of the vehicle. What he didn't show, the cabinet where the cooker is, actually unhooks so you can put the cooker and cabinet anywhere. We move the cooker and cabinet away from the door of the van and under the awning so cooking odours have less chance of drifting into the van. Very clever design.

@@jurgentreue1200 OK making it removable makes it more versatile. You can have a BBQ outside completely, I suppose.

Unprofessional audio, clothing is all daggy, more like homeless than happy camper; bad salesmanship
