Omg Ritchie you are a genius. The tape keeps the vinyl from stretching in the recessed area and forces the stretch into the flat area. There is a reason you and Pate are my favorite installers!

Until I see a van that's not pulling out of the grooves a year or so later, I'll keep cutting and dropping. I've seen a ton of how to apply vinyl in grooves videos over the years and have yet to see one where they go back and see how it's holding up. If you look at transit/sprinter wraps going down the road you see 2 options in the grooves, pulling out or cleanly cut and dropped. You never see cleanly sunk in the groove unless it's brand new and just got wrapped.
