Those amplifiers can be bought for as little as $5US from some online places. They're generally not bad actually, as all they are are the same guts you get in a typical budget micro system (the sort of thing they sell for $100-150 from the big "shed" stores) but without the radio, CD etc (or indeed the same sort of thing you get in a budget car head unit. TDAxxxx amplifier chip typically.
The reality of course is they're nowhere near 150 watts, more like 5W/channel RMS, but they're fine, and an absolute bargain if that's what you need - you won't buy the parts from a Western supplier for what these cost.
What kiils them for me though is you can actually get cheapo head units for about $6-7 from the same places. Same chip amp, but you get a radio, Bluetooth, input selector, USB/FLAC player and remote. That can legitimately be used as a slightly ugly home stereo system.
Awesome, I just ordered that SAME amp the other day. It was on sale for $6.50 US...
Just got it.. Hooked up to an $80 pair of speakers and THIS THING ROCKS!! Surprisingly clean, and LOUD for it's size!! Your hiss MUST have been from your Bluetooth adapter, mine is PURE.. The amp with the speakers and power supply for right at $100, and I'm rockn' BIG time!! I wouldn't have been upset with the results if I'd paid $90 for this, at $6.50, I'm ECSTATIC!!
I don't think you're legally allowed to hit the TRANSMIT button on that radio unless you have a HAM radio operators license. IF you do you'll get a visit from the local HAM radio club and possibly a fine from Industry Canada. You are only allowed to use the 22 channel FRS radios for your use case.
It's not so much how the things work today - give us an update in 6-12 months. If that stuff is still working, then I'll be impressed 😉
I never need RCA cables. Their are 79c a lb at my Goodwill bins, for any cables.
You have a great Goodwill, Telecasters for $10.00?
I made my own ground wires for my turntables using banana plugs. So easy to use!
I have one of these but it's Pyle. It's cheap but it works. I use it with a record player.
I bought the exact same amp. Paid $15NZ. It’s very impressive for the size of it. I ran it through a CD player and a pair of Yamaha speakers. Totally blown away by the sound quality. I took it to a friends house and hooked up a pair of Mission Freedom 770. It handled them really well.
Be careful with that radio, it's a FULLY FUNCTIONAL HAM RADIO that will transmit on LICENSED frequencies. Make sure you are using the FRS (Family Radio Service) frequencies. That radio is actually too powerful on those, but the FCC doesn't really care, but if you get on any of the HAM channels, you may upset some very tech savvy people who WILL locate you and report you.
If I had the money to spend on this stuff Frank, I would probably get an 8 TRACK player and a few tapes for nostalgia. I love THAT 70s SHOW episode where all Eric wanted for his birthday was a tape player (NOT AN 8 TRACK) for his car. And of course Red got him an 8 TRACK player. Poor Eric.
We have been ordering from TEMU for some time now. I have never had an issue with them. Thanks for the lead on the CD sleeves My Beatles, Van Halen and Boney M. CD's are in these stupid Digi-packs. This will add some protection to these cherished recordings
I did hear that they sold your information where other places don't...
Update:
I just got done watching the video...that little Amp didn't sound all that bad...I hooked my phone up to my receiver via 1/8" stereo headphone plug adapted to stereo RCAs...not bad...
The cheapest new audio gear I bought was a similar Bluetooth receiver from Amazon for a slightly higher price. I'm ashamed to say I might use it more than listening to records. I never thought the day would come, but yeah - I'm happy with the purchase. It seems to sound good and connects by itself every time.
I got a cheap bluetooth receive from Amazon several years back, and it sounded really good. I ended up giving it to my brother in law.
Nice little package of goodies there Frank. That walkie-Talkie radio looks cool but I understand why you would need another one ha ha !! Keep on spinnin !!
Like you said it's hard to tell through my computer speakers, but that seemed fairly impressive considering.
It’s always pleasant to open up purchases :)
:)))
Hi Frank, another great video! Just wanted to tell you that I have that little amp from temu as well and I use it in my shed along with an older cell phone as a streamer to run two 8" full range speakers mounted in the exterior sides of the shed walls for outdoor listening. Works great for what it's used for! Thanks again for the fun videos.
"Keep On Slaying" t-shirt right after Slayer announces a comeback. Nice, I see what you did there! Love the channel btw
That was like Christmas! lol
I just saw your little bit at the end about the cheapest audio gear I've bought. Well, it was a bluetooth speaker, quite small but with decent volume (no bass worth talking about though). It actually has exactly the same voice prompts and sounds as yours. Rechargeable as well. The cost? 73 pence. Thats around $1.25 Canadian. I bought it around 10 years ago. And it still charges and works perfectly.
I purchased a $19. 20w per channel amp i use in my garage hooked up to KLH bookshelfs . Actually prefer over my main Denon Klipsch setup in my living room . Krazy 🤪
That radio broadcasts in the amateur radio bands. You need at least a technician class amateur radio license to legally transmit. It's a simple 35 question multiple choice test, so not hard to get one.
It also does FRS, and license free MURS. (though it's rated too powerful for FRS, but the FCC doesn't seem to care).
Temu is a gamble to deal with. It's certainly a hit or miss. I guess it's true what they say you get what you paid for.
Not to be the cartoon "Ackchually..." guy, but digi-paks are the ones with an acrylic disc holder inside. The others are simply cardboard sleeves/jackets. I don't know how a sleeve could scratch a CD (a softer material shouldn't scratch a harder one). Those innersleeves are nice to keep the discs from slipping out from loose fitting jackets.
The song you played sounded like a younger Vince Neil
Cheapest thing I have found was called a Fuzzy Wuzzy. Was maybe $2 from whatever dollar store i found them in. Haven't found them so they must've gotten lost. Was years ago when I had them.
It's a 3 prong brush for cleaning horizontal blinds. But was perfect for cleaning 45's. Was a 6 sided microfiber brush that you can squish the brush pads on to the record and spin it with your thumb. I got old photos of how gross it was after about 50 of them. But just pull the entire brush part off the plastic handle and throw in to the washing machine. Or just hand wash it and let it air dry.
I'm telling ya, if you got a boatload of 45s you want to clean fast. Then this is what you want to use.
P.S. You may also want some long neck bottles to rest the large hole 45s on. I'd recommend a 6 pack of beer.
Hey man I'm new round here love the content. I'm a fan of everything except heavy dance and techno. My collection is mainly electronic, down tempo, (like Burial and boards of Canada, four tet), rock/pop/psyche and hip hop/trip hop. But I have soul, jazz, punk, ska , and loads of experimental stuff. Id love to hear more about your most enjoyed records in different genres, or even other viewers. Best extra I picked up recently is a record weight with a built in spirit lense so you can actually see if your set up is perfectly level
Just a heads up, that radio is a HAM radio which requires a license to operate. I am not sure what Canada's version of the MURS frequencies, but you could program those channels into the radio and avoid the need for a license and possible legal problems.
hey Frank, do you know anything about TEMU and their problems with security on your private information. i saw another you tuber mentioning there being sued for their security of your private information. That some people have had their identity stolen from using that site.
"Someone said" isn't proof. There's not been ONE breach of security from Temu (or stolen identities). Bank info is processed in BOSTON on an ENCRYPTED server. Nobody in China gets access to your data.
This is really Awesome 👌 fun. I really enjoy the products & your presentation. I need t o check this out.
Thanks so much!
More China crap to keep the working man from buying quality American made products
I believe those cheap two-way radios are illegal in Australia as they don't conform to the public radio frequency bands or can be easily modified to broadcast outside them.
Killer video bro
Hey Frank, really enjoy these reviews they are a great add-on to the other stuff you do. Maybe going forward make Wednesdays tech day. Not every Wednesday but when you want to do a tech review make it Wednesday. It's a nice mid-week treat.
Thanks - I appreciate that. For now, if a video appears on a Wednesday, it is either a tech review, or sponsored content. This video is both. I appreciate you watching.
"Channel 33 RPM" ...Studio😊
I see comments saying "you get what you pay for" or similar. Don't think that's true anymore. Good quality unbelievable bargains out there & at the other end there's well established names trading on high prices & premium brand but a complete lack of quality. They've cut costs & let things slide but they'd like their image to tell you otherwise.
Not certain of radio transmitting laws in Canada, but you may need a license to use the radio. Fun video, may need to check some of those products out.
nice video frank as always glad you like your new HIfi gear . I don't blame you for being sceptical towards your purchases especially when the are cheap . glad the worked for you .
Warning!
Do not use, I repeat do not use those CD inner sleeves. Unless you want to destroy your CDs.
I used them and no matter from where I got them they cause scuffing on your CDs because they ripple when you insert them in the cardboard outer sleeve.
I damaged 3 box sets in cardboard digisleeves using these plastic inner sleeves. So be aware! 🙄
PS: I would say the same about the LP inner sleeves. Is that plastic. Be careful.
How do you clip the cd back on the CD hub in either digipak or jewel case... Do the sleeves have a hole in them to allow you to do this, or do you then have to keep the sleeved cd separate from the case / digipak? 🤔
@@MagicMarmalade-kv5hr they cannot be used with digipacks or jewel cases. Only with digisleeves since they imitate the vinyl records inner sleeves.
But they should not be used at all.
Not necessarily because the concept is flaud but because the material of these cheap ones is inadequate.
Curious to know how long some of the electronics last, especially that very cheap amp.
I use Banana Plugs. Easy to fit as you say. I'm surprised they allow them were you live as I assume your electrical sockets are the same as the USA and little children can just stick the Banana Plugs straight into a socket. This happened a few years somewhere in Europe and the child died so Banana Plugs were banned there. We don't have the issue in the UK as we use three prongs on our plugs and the third prong is used lever in a cover to accommodate the plug.
I live in Sweden and have never heard of this story. Do you have any source? And no, banana plugs aint banned here. :)
@@Valnoten Apologies, I thought it was Sweden. My memory, unfortunately. I have amended. I do know it was somewhere in Europe though.
Damn! I never heard about this! Yes, the sockets are the same in Canada, the USA and Mexico.
@@bobby666666 if you're able to get some more details on this, especially the country affected.
I know in France it's not banned, I know it's not Italy (thanks to @anadialog, great channel BTW) so I'm intrigued. Thanks
@@brunohebert1351 Unfortunately, it was in a newspaper a few years ago. I did look to see if I could provide more.
That says ham radio…doesn’t look like a walkie talkie. Suggest using a ,mobile phone to talk to fiends and family unless they’re on another continent
I was gonna say - rules may be different in Canada, but licenses are required in the USA to use one of those. They're not the "Family Radio Channel" walkie talkies you think they are. But whatever.
@@Kane26510 fair point. I still remember my science teacher’s handle-WB3BTD!
Thanks for the info.
Great Video as always!
Question: What is the cheapest audio gear you've ever gotten?
Well, if it's NEW gear, I couldn't tell you.
But since the question doesn't qualify "new" or not, then here goes:
In the mid 1990's, I scored a Technics SA-505 receiver off the top of trash can in my neighborhood in suburban NY. It worked perfectly and my daughters used it for a few years. I sold it for about $120.00 when we were moving to AZ.
If that doesn't count (I didn't technically "buy" it), I've purchased CD Players (probably 5 or 6), Receivers (3 or 4), and Shelf Units (2) - all for $1.00 each - at various Goodwill dollar days over the years.
Some of the best "buys" I've ever gotten:
Mitsubish DA: M10 meter bridge, A7 power amp, F20 tuner, and P10 pre-amp for under $40 (For The LOT!!!). These were sold individually on e-bay and were able to pay for a good part of a family trip to Disneyland in 2005.
Kenwood BPC Receiver "Throw-Ins" on Craigslist: 2 pairs (not with original "egg crate" grill covers) of JBL L100 speakers (one pair was an L100 Century - not sure what the difference was). The two pairs were $15.00 total - or $7.50 a pair. I listened to them for a while, and then decided that they should go to a more dedicated JBL fan - both pairs were sold (replaced them with B&W speakers which I enjoy more). The previous owner was sure I didn't want them since they were "just too big and heavy."
Uh, huh.
I could go on, but only if you want me to.
FWIW: I picked up a Denon DRA-635R for $7.59 at a Goodwill today. It gets pretty solid reviews. This one needs a good cleaning, but is fully functional.
Cheers, Frank!
Good question... and great pickups!!! I will have to think about this, but I have found some really good stuff, for cheap, at garage sales.
The ham radio will need a license that you will have to take a test to get. Not something you can just hand to the family to play with. For that a FRS or GMRS radio is better. You can listen all you want without a license on the ham radio though.
Thanks for the info.
Does anyone have a "Lepai vibe" with that cheap amplifier? I used to use one for my desktop computer setup, it sounded pretty good for the price (I think I paid $25 in 2013). Unfortunately, it died a few years back. I replaced it with a Fosi Audio TB10A
And no I don't need bluetooth and does work well
If I remember well, the Lepai had a hum issue with the supplied power supply. So, try a different power supply see if it works better. Also, the higher the voltage the better the performance. I would assume that number of 100 something watts is in 4 ohms with a 48V power supply.
Try to use a laptop power supply (one with the same connector). Those are usually not bad and are around 12V (minimum) so it might greatly improve the performance.
BUT do check the specs in the manual first.. just in case it doesn't take higher voltage so you don't fry it.
That handheld radio better be good because at $55 a piece, it's starting to be in the "non-Temu-more serious range"
I’ve got CDs that I left in my car from 1988-1998 and got heavy use and they still sound great. Why buy useless sleeves.
To each their own - nothing wrong with that.
I bought one of those amps . It had almost no output . Temu did give me a refund on it
That sucks... this one was plenty loud (surprisingly).
I'd like to ask where are you're CD shelves from? Is it IKEA? Thanks your time.
Yes, IKEA Gnedby shelves.
Say Frank. Do you use your card and have you had any issues with your order? Ooops! I guess you did by not getting your other radio. Ive heard and keep reading all the bad service from TEMU. Ive been wanting to order but having my info on there, gives me not so fuzzy feeling. Well, brother. Keep rocking! Another outstanding video.
It's the risk we take today I've had to cancel 3 cards in 2 months
It wasn't on temu
Just on Google
The issue with the radio was my bad (I didn't read the description carefully). This was a sponsored video, but I did order with my credit card awhile back with no issues
@Channel33RPM frank, thanks for all you do, brother. I've learned a lot by seeing your videos and still watching. THANKS🤘
@AROD-oz6xp I'd steer clear of Temu if I were you but I'm not so you do you.
They did spend a lot of money on the Superbowl....
Just like TikTok, it's just a little too fishy for me.
Many people had issues with Temu, many people had no issues with them so who knows
Just remember any company in China has to report to the government when asked. So, you decide knowing the situation.
I prefer to steer clear but that's just me
BTW, many Chinese companies are selling direct through either eBay or Amazon. On eBay, it's more obvious.. less so on Amazon.. it pays to pay a little attention whom you buy from.
Most are legitimate businesses but here and there you'll find a bad one... and again, they have to report to the government if they get asked for, may not happen but you never now what they'll do with that data.
Please be advised in order to use this radio you will need to get a license or might get cough and pay penalties
I saw that they said HAM RADIO as well. You need to pass tests to get a license to use them in the USA.
Thanks for the info.
For me buying anything on Temu is like paying for the bullets the CCP is going to use in Taiwan (sooner or later).
Thanks for the reviews, dinner sounded nice!
Thanks for a peek at the temu goodies
I think they make it cheap and attractive, because their products are probably all chipped.
Two Questions: Does Temu also sell dirt cheap tickets for AC/DC? And do you take the concerns of a lot of your subscribers seriously? Maybe its nice to adress these questions in a future episode. Not trying to lecture here Frank, just being sincere. Cheers!
The problem is once you sleeve your CDs then they won't be able to put it back into the case ... Hmmmmm
I was speaking more of the digipacks, where you have to slide them in to those horrible cardboard sleeves.
The Chinese selling glass pearls to Americans? 🤭
You said the amp was $15 and then you said it was $12. LOL!
It was both! The prices tend to fluctuate.
Why do you still shill this garbage after your subscribers in the comments told you it’s a shady service with junk products? 🤯
no man! not cool! you just bought useless things that you don't need
Chicken breast stuffed with broccoli and cheese that sounds like Cordon Bleu.
It was delicious!
I'm sorry to be negative, but some of this is the disposable, "never works well or for long" kind of "stuff" I'm trying to get out of my life. It's all pretty cheap quality. I suggest you not surround yourself with junk. Prices also don't seem so cheap compared to Amazon or even the dollar store! That amp sounds horrible...at any price. And you are willingly giving?? your financial info to a Chinese company...??? They do not have a good track record.
I would be worried about the fire hazard of that stuff. pls unplug when not in use.
crap from ali
I know pretty much everything is made in China anyhow, but I personally prefer not buying anything directly from a Chinese website. Just my two cents.
You got cheap stuff cheap, but remember, this is a Chinese company and they now have your name and credit card info.
My privacy is worth more than bargain products.
I stay away from this app and company.
Exactly. I am aware of multiple people who have had suspicious transactions appear on their credit cards after using this company. Essentially you are funding a Communist government with these purchases.
Exactly.
They're not making any money from selling products. It's not that difficult to figure out what their real business is.
