    This is beautiful! Thank you! I am SO sick of the guitars used in our church now while our majestic pipe organ sits in silence. :(

      Personally I would 'vote with my feet' in that case. Churches that have traditional organ/choral music need to be supported.

      @@Londonfogey I agree, but due to poor health, I am home bound. I also have a very long history with my church (as a musician), but since my heath failed, I am no longer able to perform in person. (I was a vocal soloist, choir director, and directed our bell choir.) Since I am a composer and arranger, I am happy to provide traditional music for them that is available to be used any time they need it in mp3 form, but unfortunately, it is difficult for the congregation to sing the hymns with prerecorded music. My compositions are used as prelude, postlude, and special music.
      Since our organist passed away, the only "live" accompanists available to them for hymn accompaniment are guitar players. Also, we are in an isolated area, and the closest United Methodist Church is over 75 miles away though the mountains.
      I just really miss the sound of our glorious pipe organ, but thankfully, I have videos like this one to enjoy. 🙂

      @@carolynlewert-hagan4036 I know our liturgies may not be the same, however many Catholic churches still haven't succumbed to the alluring siren song of the guitars and keyboards of the 'praise and worship' gatherings, with the organ still the principle instrument favoured - and indeed the only instrument mentioned at all by Church canon. Aside from the voice, of course.
      If you're able to, why don't you pop in one Sunday for your organ 'fix' - normally it's the last morning mass on Sunday that features the organ.
      There's nothing quite like the power and majesty of the organ...

      @@andydrew2003 Oh you are so right! The organ is the best! I am home bound, so I get my 'organ fix' from CZcams these days, along with listening to my own traditional hymn arrangements (I'm a composer/arranger), and my extensive personal classical music collection, but thank you so much for your heartfelt invitation! I agree. The Roman Catholic Church is steeped in fantastic music history. Bless you. Enjoy your traditional mass. 🙂

      Time to request the church for organ accompaniment. The more the congregation request organ music the stronger the case.

    Amazing!! I love the pairing of this tune with the text. I've always sung it to Hyfrydol, but this is just great!!
    Also, thank you for including the lesser-known second verse! Such a powerful text to pray with.

    • @RalphCullen
      @RalphCullen  Před rokem +1

      I think it is the most profound hymn ever written. Wesley certainly had incredible poetic gift and a very good way of committing doctrine to text. The tune marries so well with this hymn and lifts the soul to incredible heights in prayer when sung. I think the downward trend of Hyfrydol actually does it a bit of an injustice. Blaenwern forever in my humble opinion! Thanks for your comments

    It’s tough playing hymns for a congregation to sing with, and I openly admit to my own mistakes not being a professional or formally trained. You’re nearly there, but note my earlier comment about the timing error in V1. Also I tend to trip this along as if the time signature was 6 over 8. The big rallentando at the end is probably too drawn out; and are you timing carefully between verses? I fear not so there will always be a delay in starting each verse, because the music is fragmented and no congregation would be able to get the sense of timing. Count the value of the last chord and the value of the silence making them up to 6, i.e. 1 2 3 1 off and ... Good luck!

    One more thing I have just noticed: you’re playing this in Aflat! It will be too high for most congregations to sing. Most organists play it in G; I use F as I prefer to avoid anything above D or Eflat. But it’s a great sound and you should be in front of a congregation.

    Not an accompaniment for singing to imho. It's far too legato so little rhythmic pulse. With a congregation you have to be the Conductor. And what happened in the first verse with an extra beat thrown in?

      The rhythm seems fine to me. The extra beat is called a "mistake", we all make them. I think the gentleman is demonstrating the organ, rather than accompanying a non-existent congregation. 😉😉😉

    • @RalphCullen
      @RalphCullen  Před rokem +1

      @@bertspeggly4428 Thank you yes. Any "extra beats" were simply fumbled notes. I play to make music and certainly to let the sound of the organ be demonstrated.
