In this video I will show how one can fix the stiff focus ring, actually it's the stiff helicoids, because of old sticky grease that has dryet up during many years in this old Helios-44M 2/58.
I will try to Re-grease with the "LIQUI MOLY" LM47 MoS2, but I found it to be a little to stiff to move.
I actually try it with 5 different greases, but then I with a really good result try to use the "Japan hobby tool" grease that is #30 and much softer than the LM47.
Another time I will try with the #10 even if the oil has separated I think it's still a good grease.
It's just to show that there is not an universal grease for all lenses, sometimes it works and sometimes not.
As we are working with helicoids, we just need to remember to set small marks, BEFORE disassemble the helicoids and also measure how long/short the helicoids are at infinity, also remember to count how many turn(s) it will take to get off the thread, and also set marks where the helicoids get separated!
NOTE: There is NO (0) repair manuals for those old lenses.

Great video, i like it. Japan hobby tool #10 grease is more expensive than the Helios lenses. And I can not buy the grease from ebay and fron Japan. They just not send product to Russia. So I use cheap Chinese grease SW-92SA for all old lenses.

Excellent topic coz everyone loves these Helioses and no one knows better than Russians how to spray & squeeze so much oil and grease on the aperture blades.
    Thank you.

Спасибо за этот отличный урок. Действительно молодцы!
Еще у меня есть объективы Гелиос, которые мне нужно смазать.

I got one these and an old Zenit camera. The camera had shutter curtains problems and the lens rear pin was stuck inside. Took the back of lens off clean and oiled the mechanism which freed it up. Clean the rear and front elements which are alot easier to do than other manufacturers. But got to says I'm not brave enough to re grease the focus screw mechanism sadly :-(

Hi. I tried the Huskey HTL 500 to the touch, it had the right consistency and PTFE additives and full synthetics, but its focusing smoothness was far from ideal ...
I also tried Divinol Fett top 2003, it turned out to be too sticky and the helicoid rotated very tightly, but I would only lubricate the guides with it, since it is very sticky and must hold in place for a very long time.
I also conducted a test by applying a drop of different lubricants to the printer paper, and after 12 hours I looked at the stain, which was partly an indirect sign of the retention properties of the thickener and the tendency to evaporate, and leaving them for 24-48 hours to compare the lubricating properties of those thickened lumps lubricants that have survived after staying on the paper and drying. Could you also check the ones you have?

What is the best grease in your opinion?

What grease would you use for the lense throughout as I don't want grease that's too thick or too thin
