The mats are great, been there since November 2023. There are some scratches, it's not thick material. We don't do take downs with steel, only dussack. I'll get a vinyl tarp at some point over it. And that would allow us to not worry about the blades cutting it. Because of the temperature changes in there I just can't use puzzle mats, cause they would expand and subtract.
I always struggle with whether I want to spend money on mats. I just _expect_ a student to send a crossguard through one. I guess "dussak/ringen only" rules are a way around that.

Yes, and it's good safety for people to learn with that. But puzzlemats can be ok depending on the building. And you don't have to worry about those.
