Abbey, could you one day do a video on how to raise kids to have a healthy relationship with food? As someone with an ED that I very much believe was taught to me by my parents, I would really appreciate this...

Yes this is good. My 12 year old daughter’s best friend just got put on a restrictive diet and has to run every morning at 6am because her grandfather says she is overweight. My heart is broken for her. There is nothing about her that’s overweight and they are literally predestining her to have disordered eating.

Thank you so much for this. As someone with a long history of restriction I tend to gain big when I eat “ normally” in pregnancy. It’s so nice to hear a more nuanced and holistic approach than simply “don’t gain anything in the first trimester” which is just not possible for some of us.

I just found out I’m pregnant and my dr went over all the important health and nutritional factors I need to follow because I am obese. However, I have lost weight the past 2 months because of intuitive eating and I’m following the same guidelines now(sorta). So far I haven’t been hungry and I’ve been having some food aversion so I have to remind myself to actually eat. Yesterday I couldn’t hold food down and I’m sure I lacked calories and nutrition I needed for the day but today I’m eating everything but making sure it’s healthy. This video was helpful in continuing my healthy journey during this pregnancy.

Your appetite may pick up during 2nd trimester, but may fall off again during the 3rd. Try eating small meals frequently, or as soon as you wake up, drink water and eat some crackers before you even get out of bed. I know that my nausea was always worse before I ate something. I'm in my 3rd trimester right now, and I am considered overweight, but you just want to make sure you're not gaining too much weight. Average weight gain for someone who is overweight shouldn't exceed 30lbs, but it's different for everyone and weight does fluctuate. The only reason I would say you should watch weight gain is just to reduce complications during labor. Going on walks and doing low-impact activity will help with labor and delivery too. Stretching is also so wonderful, I feel much better after stretching. If/when you start to feel better, that's just what I recommend. But I'm not a professional anything, I'm just a first-time-mom in the 3rd trimester giving tips that helped me.

Abbey, thank you for what you are doing on this platform. You are using it to tear down so many unhealthy ideas, habits and trends surrounding something so important and vital - food.
For years I've struggled with a confusing eating disorder. I fear under-eating, but I also under-eat, because of the anxiety. I've been incredibly under weight before and I'm always afraid of going back to that. Thankfully for the last year I have been a very healthy thicc weight :)
Videos like the ones you make, help me feel normal. Help calm my anxiety surrounding food. I feel more ready to just eat mindfully. Not stress about is this enough food? Is this too much? Will I be too full to eat anything more today and therefore under eat?
I saw your what I eat in a day where you had two breakfasts; peanut butter toast and then baked eggs. It blew my mind. I always try to over stuff myself to make sure I don't under eat, but the idea of just having smaller portions spread throughout the day never occurred to me. Everyone's diets on the internet are always so coordinated, thought-out and planned.
Thank you so much for just helping food make sense again. I really appreciate what you do.

Abbey, could you give some advice/do a video on whether supplements can prevent/reduce the risk of a miscarriage? My interest in the topic was provoked by two videos I watched from the CZcams channel Nourish with Melanie, one entitled How to prevent miscarriage and the other How to reduce the risk of miscarriage. The first claimed that one can prevent miscarriage by having a balanced diet but also that eating butter could cause a miscarriage, so one should not eat butter. The second video claimed that B3 and choline can prevent recurring miscarriage from happening.
I have maintained a balanced and healthy diet during my two pregnancies that both ended in a missed miscarriage. Now I am 4+ weeks pregnant again and feel scared. I am wondering whether I should take B3 and choline as supplements and could these cause toxicity if I am already getting my daily needs through food? I am currently taking metylfolate every day and benign iron + vit C once/twice a week. Also, does it make any sense that butter is not safe during pregnancy? I did sometimes have ghee during my failed pregnancies. Thank you so much!!!

Correct. My best friend is a stem scientist with a degree in microbiology. He is going back to school to get his degree in nutritional sciences. We are both very supportive of permaculture and regenerative agriculture for environmental and nutritional reasons which includes the rotational grazing of animals. There are stories after stories of babies and kids dying or being severely malnourished from extreme vegan diets. It's now outlawed in some countries including Italy I think. We need omega 3 fatty acids and B12 and Heme Iron...there are many nutrients found in abundance in animal products that you cannot get from plant based products at all or are in much smaller amounts. I cook in grass fed beef tallow and lard and coconut oil. Unfortunately there's alot of nutritional misinformation. saturated animal fats are saitating and filling and healthy and helps with sugar and junk food cravings. There's no real evidence showing it causes heart disease and is actually beneficial. What we serve kids in school's are a joke..full of sugar and hydrogenated oils and excessive carbs and no fat. But yeah..there are babies born with holes in there brain's from a lack of B12. Supplementing is necessary if your a vegan. But wouldn't it be better to just eat meat and dairy? I'm allergic to dairy and my friends allergic to soy. So we don't eat those. But yeah.. Abby's glossing over a very important topic that needs a whole show..not just a 2 minute clip.

I’m 30 weeks pregnant with my 2nd, was intuitive eating prior to pregnancy, and but literally can’t stop eating because my appetite is so ravenous and likely have doubled my calories from pre-pregnancy/first trimester. I’ve been packing on the pounds since 16 weeks and I can’t stop it. The days I don’t eat as much as my appetite wants, I end up sooo hungry at night, wake up from headaches and muscle cramps. So idk what to do but I’ve surpassed my weight gain limit for this pregnancy and have 6-9 weeks left 🙃

Girl, i feel ya. I easily doubled my calories then the heartburn kicked in the last couple weeks. I drank a gallon of milk a day. I was able to chill out last 3 weeks with a ton of water and calories around 2100 a day

I’m trying to listen to my body but my body is telling me to eat like there’s no tomorrow! Looking forward to when my babe is here and things change all over again for us 🥴 congratulations on your pregnancy!! Best of luck to you

Any tips on what to eat when you have HG? My OB pretty much told me good luck with that, and didn’t really offer any ideas. I’ve tried eating small meals, cold ones, ginger things, mint things, super bland foods, and haven’t had luck keeping much down. I’m 17 weeks, this is my 3rd baby, and I still have to try to have the energy to be a full time stay at home mom of a 4 year old and 2 year old. I am in the states, and insurance isn’t easy, you’re kind of stuck with what they dictate as far as doctors go 😐

I need some thoughts and opinions from other moms: this is my first baby, and at my last appointment they said I have intrauterine growth restriction. At 36 weeks my baby is 4 lbs 14 oz according to the ultrasound. I follow a mainly whole foods vegan diet with plenty of protein and fats along with a prenatal a few times a week. It got me thinking is my baby actually “too small” or is the average baby much bigger than they’re meant to be because of the way most Americans eat especially while pregnant? Also they are saying they want to induce me soon to get him out and growing to a “normal size” even though there’s nothing wrong with him. They even said my cord flow was at maximum. I’m thinking of refusing to be induced. By 40 weeks he could gain the fat he needs to be “normal birth size” which is at least 5 lbs 8 oz. he’s not far from that, but I’m freaking out, and I don’t want to make the wrong choice. If anyone else had babies that were “too small” please share your stories. I need some encouragement!

I just realized, the reason I’ve been super hungry in my first trimester is because I was eating 1500 cal. I have aversion to meat and dairy milk, avocado, yogurt, chicken. I have to hide eggs and chicken in my food to mask the flavor and add protein.

For anyone confused about the use of pregnant people rather than pregnant women, I strongly recommend that you check out Mama Doctor Jones's video 'Is science anti-trans?' She's a medical doctor (ObGyn) and goes through why being inclusive in health care is not only valid but extremely important and how trans identities are backed up by science. There is nothing anti-scientific at all about saying pregnant people rather than pregnant women.

I was actually very physically healthy when I was vegan for 2 years, however, I started to realize that I stopped enjoying food and began to be scared of animal products. At work, I had an incident where my blood sugar was dropping and my co-worker tried to give me a chocolate with dairy in it and I started crying and refused to eat it.
