Everybody talks about how one band has more talent than another, or how one writes better and more original music but these days, bands like Kokoroko, a group of people who seem effortless in the way they play, and really just look like they're enjoying each other's musicianship - that's the highest musical achievement for me.
Absolutely!!💎
Well said! They truly make it look super effortless.
Reminds me of earlier times,
Like 1930s/40s Jazz Era Clarinetist
Artie Shaw: "Everybody Played an Instrument... or else they carried guns"
1960s/early 70s-- EVERYBODY played in a Band -- Music was Everywhere!!!
Great musicians & jam sessions!
(Today's Synthesizer $hit ain't music)
@@TD-np6ze always this dogmatic way of seeing things. couldn't this keyboard be used as a synth? and he could still play jazz, I would probably like it, and not care whether it was "music" or not.
@@RayasNegroOvejas In late 70's, Stevie Wonder innovations used keyboard as entire band - he was probably one of few genius talents that could pull it off?
But after a few years, his music became stale.... The 80s Synth-Pop was fun at first, but lacking talent or innovation.
So, IMO, there's NOTHING BEATS like a Real Rhythm Section!!
Ever listened to Marcus Miller Band? Jazz Bass Guitar -- Incredible!!!
Good lord this is fantastic. While the music industry keeps feeding the masses baby food, there's music like this for the deeply hungry for true artistry. Love and power to you all, thank you for raising the bar!
Women playing non traditional instruments is a TREAT. That’s nice.🍃
Thank you.🍃
As a fellow black woman horn player, this band makes me so happy and inspired. Love from Memphis 💜
I'm a bass player and I wish I were black...!
@@normg2242 why?
@@aurematic No one plays bass like they do...
Yes Yes Yes! Love it!
Memphis represent!
Kokoroko! London, afro beat! Great sound!
Sheila Maurice-Grey - Trumpet, vocals
Cassie Kinoshi - Alto saxophone, percussion, vocals
Richie Seivwright - trumpet, vocals, percussion
Yohan Kebede - Keyboards
Duane Atherley - Bass
Toby Adenaike - Guitar
Onome Edgeworth - Percussion
Ayo Salawu - Drums
Thanks
Thank you 🙏🏽
Thanks for the personnel list! Who is playing trombone?
@@boneuhfide Richie Seivwright on trombone. Typo in OP's list. Sheila Maurice-Grey is trumpet and band leader.
I’m loving this
Jazz is alive and well and more vital than ever. Thank you, Kokoroko.
Lol
OUTSTANDING! Got Grandma toe tapping, head boppin here in North Carolina!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jesus Christ !
CZcams just showed me a framed picture of a woman playing the trumpet.
I cliked and now I am mind blown by the high quality of that music.
Me pasó lo mismo!
o mesmo aqui!
Não estou sozinho! 😱👌
Same here, bro...!
Também eu concordo.
I love the fact they look like people real people enjoying music. Beautiful
The highest musical achievement for me and my people is to preserve the heritage and strength and light that has been continuously drained out of us! that's why it's so rare to see and here this in this time because they are embracing the Holy Spirit cultivating it and letting it shine we are the people of the book HalleluYAH!!!!
was listening to your music every day when i was living in London, on the train, the bus, cycling around, through rain and snow and (very little) sun. you made the soundtrack to my life there, couldn't have asked for a lovelier sound
That is a compliment to the band. Where do you live now?
Real music! No auto tuned voices!
Such a delicious, refreshing treat for my ears! ❤️
yes man
Tears running down my face. Just reminded me of my Hero Hugh Masekela. Healing!
Runs deep inside and Rejuvenates
Hugh a South African treasure.
Yes! Yes! Same for me! Many years ago Masekela played in Detroit three times inside a year-and-a-half; saw him all three, so great! I'm very impressed with Kokoroko, and at this point I am neither easily nor often impressed by anyone, especially in recent years...
Me! 🙋🏽♀️🤧
@@DimestoreLiam ESPECIALLY in recent years
🎼wow…I don’t know anything about this Kokoroko. I don’t know how long they been together but I hope they last a few decades. They are poised to shock the world.🎺🎺🎺
First of all: HORNS!!! Fantastic. Second: vocals, specifically the chords. Third: that wooden snare!!! Sick. The hit at 6:52 and the rim work after that sounds like magic.
Fourth: the tight rhythm, intonation, and rich tone at 7:15
...now a permanent part of my music selection and collection, thank CZcams algorithim this time, what a find....
Same ..
it’s nice to see them playing songs I work and drive to everyday
Yeah, some times the algorithm gets it right...!!!
Same here. So strange, thinking about Melba Liston all day yesterday, then saw this...
.... this is one talented and cohesive group of musicians......thank you for your gift to us.
Absolutely love Kokoroko. Such immensely talented individuals.
My buddy for over 55 years sent me this just like he hip me to Pharoah Sanders 55 years ago. This goes into the permenant playlist just like the Great Pharoah
This is my fifth time listening to this and it just gets better and better each time. This is music.
Love this kind of music...where would we be without music. Music is life
Peace and blessings from Los Angeles. These guys and gals are killin it. It's so refreshing to see and hear OUR SOUND, OUR VOICE, OUR TONE, OUR EXPRESSION, being played by US. Love it!!!
The keyboard work is simply classy.
I LOVE THIS! MAKES ME WANT TO PICK UP MY TRUMPET AGAIN!
Do it! I’m 68 and starting back
Pick it up
Don't be lazy
I'm jelaous that I heve never tried
Wow! The level of intricacy (complicity) of these pieces are amazing. As a musician myself, these type of pieces take so so much practice and concentration. Very VERY Well Done! The cherry on the cake is the pure enjoyment from each member
Absolutely ❤
I see people on the comments talking about talent, but i dont see only talent here. What they have is called harmony, and its something almost like magic. Of course they have talent to play their instruments but you can hear how they enjoy playing together. Everyone's doing their part but they wouldnt sound like this if it wasnt for their cooperation. It's beautiful seeing(and listening) to these people who are clearly just vibing with their sounds. Its so beautiful. I love it.
Much appreciated 🙏🏽 woman playing the horns talent
WOW WOW WOW WOW make all them black american jazz legends proud ! REAL PROUD ! fantastique ! ces femmes sont un trésor vivant !! j'adore . merci d'exister
Musicality, technique, feelings, charisma... Great, great band! 👏👏💝💝
I can hear the James Brown influence which was adapted by Fela Kuti in their horn section, the bass, and the drums. American Black music is the gold standard! (smiles proudly).
Sounds really good to me!..... keeep writing songs like these!
What is/are the time signature(s)?
Fela Kuti was one hell of a man! Wild, free spirited, full of life, & a bit crazy lol.
@@jonezzjazz I'm feeling it in 5, but I'm usually wrong about those things lol
It was the other way around. Were u around in Nigeria during the FESTAC in 1977. JB was there & was taking his entire band members to FELA's joint for them to c what he wanted. Pls, study the history. The mother comes first b4 the child. Africa is the foundation of all music altho' everyone add their own icing on the African cake as their environments dictates. As the Yoruba adage goes, a river must neva 4get it source.
Love their music, it's medicine for stressful times, I didn't realise they were a such a big band of musicians, amazing.
SO MUCH TALENT IN A SINGLE ROOM
FELA dey inside well, well! 👏🏾👏🏾Wonderful work and energy……. thank you for treating us to deep musical vibrations
Meu pai do céu!!!
Is Divine, is beautiful. My Black People is beautiful!!!
Oh my goodness, this is one of the BEST THINGS I'VE SEEN and/or HEARD ONLINE THIS YEAR! I want more.
Beautiful, female trumpet player, brass section off the wall, amazing. Love from Kingston upon Hull East Yorkshire, England xxx
These young folks are intellectually and spiritually light years ahead of the mumble rap crowd. They are picking up where Miles and Monk and Masakela left off...
their groove is so tight-nice to see and hear a lead female wind arrangement
how is a wind arrangement „female“? Does it sound different then a „male“ arrangement?
@@Stabacs its rarity to see this kind of arrangement. there are great sax, clarinet[Cohen brother] harmonica female musician but not very often you see 3 of them playing as a lead-especially on this kind of instrument[trumpet for example] but maybe it is just my ignorance-any way they sound great- regardless of their gender
@@f1tof2 Hey bro I totally agree with your comment. We need to get more women recognised and these ladies (and the whole band too haha) sound fantastic!!
No disrespect intended BUT FYI this isnt a wind arrangement - the only wind instrument there is the saxophone otherwise trumpet and trombone are brass. Just thought Id comment in case you didn't know! :))))
@@SicRBS thank you! i didnt know-im not a musician, just enthusiastic listener:)
Absolutely
Gorgeous arrangement! Love to see my people vibing high & shining ☀️
I'm a fellow Croatian, but I get your vibe
Pure talent
Pure music
Pure class
How not to love them❤❤
Magic!!! This world belongs to these people. They shine upon us.
I agree with you!!
Orale!!!!
When real music IMPROVES SUCH AS A REAL ART!
Knew this would be great from first few seconds Like Sparkly Stars & Mystic Mountain Flowers are Dancing to an internal rhythm. Thank You for Healing Energy.. this was serious & Fun! LOVE & Happy Holidays to The Whole Squad & Fam 🖤🤎💜💙🖤❤💛💚🖤💙💜🤎🖤
This what it sounds like when we work together 🙌🏾💖💪🏾
WOW i absolutely love your sound great magicians coming together, reminds me of Jazz Funk bands in the 70's in America God Bless keep doing it !!
I keep coming back to this video, completely in love with Baba Ayoola
Incredible synergy, love the complexity , simplicity and totally shared musical space, so inspiring. So great to see the whole band love being right there in the moment.
WOW!!This band is frigging fantastic!! I feel so lucky to have encountered them and had my life enriched!! Beautiful!
OMG, never heard of them but I'm a fan NOW!!!!! The VIBE they got is so REAL.
Dream! Beautiful black people , wonderful vibe , inspiring! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼hugs from Brasil !
I was so proud when I stumbled upon this video and there was fellow Bermudian Ayo Salawu on drums. Love the music music bru and I wish you all the best.
The only thing I can say is how much I love thing band since I found them on youtube in 2018 since then I am a Fan. Cheers from brasil.
Amo vocês!
Wow! this is some good music that gives me flashbacks of my humble beginnings as a bass player in Washington DC area in the early 80's...with 3 of the awesome percussionist. Eventually we had 11 members with all live music. Anyway...I just wanted to give the band some positive feedback...Nice!! Love what you are doing!!
DC area had some great authentic musicians when I lived there many yrs ago -- hope that you are doing well and able to carry on the traditions!!!
Duke Ellington was from DC!
Fela Kuti has reincarnated in this group !!!! Wow WOH !!!!!!!
I just wade in & always a fresh crisp delivery of young talent so pleasant, so different than the rest. I just love this band of music makers each holding their own; growing every time I encounter this fine tuned music machine
musicianship and chemistry are up there! this is the kind of energy in music that i always pursue.
Ran across this video in my suggested vids - So glad I did ! What a talented group :-) Love the groove ......
They are so talented..... Iove the Uk jazz scene. I wish people had more appreciation for that genre here in Toronto. They need to tour hear or come to the Toronto jazz festival and the Montreal jazz festival. Them and Kamasi Washington are making jazz fun for the younger generations. Props to Iamddb for introducing me to their music. 🇬🇧🇳🇬💚❤️💜
Just wonderful, thank you :)
Right Ownnnn! Female Band Members! And on the Trombone which in my opinion is one of the hardest instruments to play because of slide postions to hit the notes! Do It Ya'll
I cant stop moving my body. Wow what a gem Kokoroko is!
Afro jazz!!??? Awesome 😎👍🏾 great arrangements! I love female Playing horns ✨🎶🎺🔥 🎷
this is groove is sooo beautiful. makes my soul travel....
Cant believe I heard Ti-De that one time and here I am, listening to this musical masterpiece. What an intrinsically connected band☯️
Absolutely love it - thank you !
Absolutely fantastic! Thank you. BEAUTIFUL!
Fantastic performance! Thanks so much!
Wow! Love the concepts. Jazz Messengers on a completely boss level. That frontline is tops at popping out well-crafted horn lines like that, and the rhythm section is simply amazing. Enjoyed the ultra modern direction the band took while still acknowledging the core tradition. So glad the trumpet player finally stepped out and blew some seriously fresh solo stuff. We all know that tone, too. The greats all had it. And dig those awesome vocals. The surprise drummer's non-ending that perfectly ended the second song. Great job! Grammy?
Groove, groove - and more groove! Congratulations!!
So great to hear this beautiful music this morning. Thank you from Little Rock!
They're so amazing!!!
I am amazed by you guys!!! Beautiful
WOW. So happy I clicked.
