ASK THE EXPERT: FINEO glass & how it compares to other Insulated Glass Units.

A new and exciting generation of vacuum-insulated glass will be arriving in sash windows in the UK in 2022. With unrivalled thermal performance, consisting of two panes of glass separated by a vacuum gap, FINEO glass is 12.5% more energy efficient than a 36mm triple glazed unit. Not only does FINEO combine astonishing energy performance, but also combines exceptionally high thermal insulation, impressive noise reduction and unprecedented sustainability.
But how does FINEO compare to other Insulated Glass Units (IGU), and what other benefits could FINEO offer to customers?

I looked into FINEO Glass units as I run a small Joinery workshop. The issue I have is the lead times for delivery which I was told was anywhere between 8-12 weeks. They're made in Belgium and the transport costs are high. I was told they were trying to get a UK based factory to manufacture which would reduce costs. Good product and a good warranty compared to standard IGU's.

Great little vid, and giving the information that is needed. I own a 100 year old property and am looking to reduce my heat loss from the property, and it looks like the fineo glass could well be the answer. I live in the Netherlands now, and the windows are very large here, so I suspect that heat loss is massive through my very old double glazed windows....

I recently saw a video featuring a similar product from a North American company, VacuMax by Vivo Architectural Glass. That boasted an R Value of 14, (about 1/10 the heat loss as this product) I wonder what the difference is?

In America, the declared measurement of heat loss is “R value” which is the inverse of our European “U value”
However the most important thing is to compare apples with apples. The declared Vacumax product is imperial in Btu-hr/ft^2/F and not metric W/m^2K that Europe and the UK use.
It is a complicated process of converting from one set of units to the other, so in true modern fashion, the easiest way is to turn to google, plenty of sites have calculators to do this quickly. Checked a few different sites to ensure that the figures were accurate and comparably.
The Vacumax glass is .3 W/m2K
The difference between the Vacumax .3 our Fineo .7 is undoubtedly the low e coating being used, the actual size of the vacuum cavity and the technology is similar. Next year it is being discussed using a different performance low e coating on the Fineo glass to achieve 0.4 W/m2K
