  • Well the inevitable happened and Rennen broke the Stacyc 16eDRIVE hard this time! It started clicking and making a really terrible sound from the motor/gearbox assembly, so I submitted a warranty claim and Stacyc was quick to honor it. It was at my door not a week later, so I replaced it. I didn't see instructions for the 16e Brushless on their site and the package didn't contain paper instructions, so I decided to document my process in replacing it.
    Hope this helps anyone who's kid rides as hard as mine and will most certainly be breaking a gearbox soon enough!

    Great stuff John, with such a great support video, surely they would of sent you some FREE batteries...

      Thanks M8! I’m not too happy with this bike at the moment as this gearbox change didn’t fix the issue. I’m happy they warrantied it, but am not getting my hopes up that they’ll continue to do so. I kind of feel it’s a ticking time bomb now and it saddens me not only because I spent $800, but more because my boy loves the bike and is now afraid to ride it because he thinks he’ll break it. I’m actually ready for a free bike, but I’d take a free battery for sure as those have problems too 😂🤷🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

    I’m done with stacyc, we had a 12, ton of issues, now on 16 brushless and 4 months old and it’s already got this issue. Getting the warranty and item and selling it to be someone else’s problem. Getting the Kawasaki unit.

      Same here, I’ll be selling both of our Stacyc’s soon. The 16E will probably be sold for parts 😞

    Hi John
    Sorry it's not related to this video, but I've seen you do some work on the Honda Monkey, and was wondering if you know if it's possible to put the stock heatshiled back on the Yoshimura RS-3 exhaust, and what work would be needed?
    Thanks 👍

      No worries! No, unfortunately the stock heat shield will not work with the Yoshimura. It will work with the terminogni exhaust, akropovic, and Takegawa SP I believe.

      @@John5XR thanks! Shame about the yoshi. Akrapovic looks and sounds best to me but unfortunately it doesn't meet the emissions requirements...

      Oh really? They make a slip on version that utilizes the OEM catalyst I believe

    Nice! You do a gearbox tear down? Apart from the detent, looks like the 90 on my angle grinder. Good fix video! Thanks!

    • @John5XR
      @John5XR  Před 3 lety +1

      No, since it looks like a sealed unit I didn’t see a need to completely tear it apart, but that just gave me a good idea for the one I took out! I am curious to see what’s inside and what might be broken

      @@John5XR Yeah. Wonder what's actually failing. Maybe there's a better replacement for a specific component. I don't think he's gonna go any easier on it. LOL

    • @John5XR
      @John5XR  Před 3 lety +1

      Definitely not gonna go easier on it! Lol! Unfortunately these are still pretty new and there’s no aftermarket it for it yet. I’m afraid the cure for this kid is a Husqvarna EE-5 😳

      @@John5XR That looks like an expensive, but thorough cure! LOL

      Yeah, expensive indeed! Like $5k expensive 😕
