    The 1019 has a large fan base here in Germany. He has the nickname "Eisenschwein" (engl. "Iron Pig"). It should be very robust and sound very good!

      It has a pretty large fan base in the USA among vintage turntable collectors as well. I have 2 1019's but I don't want to part with them. They sound really good with the right cartridge.

      @@andershammer9307 Any vintage Shure cartridge like the M44 sounds really good. I am currently running it with the M35 which is supposed to be a cheap cartridge and though it is objectively not the best sound, it is bags of fun. I also have 2 1019's and a 1009. Not selling them.

      If you set them up well, they sound fantastic. More over, you may find better turntables that are more audiophile but in most cases they will sound also boring compared to the 1019.

      @@hugobloemers4425 Agreed. There is a live, atmospheric quality to the sound from these Duals that I don’t hear with more modern players that I have (eg Denon, Project). I’ll never get rid of my Duals

    Love your counterweight solution, I like these old Duals, even if they are a bit tempermental at times, gotta love it when people use the spray and pray repair method on the mechanism, atleast it'll never rust now!

    I bought a computer once, a laptop from 1999 or so that was retied in 2005. The seller's disclaimer was "we remove all hard drives" but they missed this one. Had a bunch of really low res porn dated 1999 in the temporary internet files folder.

    You got there first, i was going to pull your leg and say ' That's a nice deck, nearly as good as a b.s.r' lol.
    Well it works great now, that wd40 is horrible stuff.
    But its ok to get hinges unstuck, then 3 in one oil to replace the wd40.
    I did that on my garden gate, very smooooooth now 😀

    Are you sure the arm lift is working well? It is supposed to be dampened.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  Před 2 lety +1

      It is with the cue arm but not the auto mechanism. It drops like a rock, then the mute circuit unmutes. My other dual 1214 is the same.

      @hugobloemers4425 Před 2 lety +1

      @@12voltvids Yes bu the cue arm should be smooth and dampened, I have a 1019 as well. So the silicone grease on the lift piston is gone or dried up. Should be very easy to restore with silicone grease for cue arms.

    never use WD-40 - On a Dual Turntable these units have to have specific maintenance done the Mechanical switches , gears can gunk up switches will snap and break instantly, the only - way take apart all the mechanical parts a full cleaning reassembled proper Use 3 in 1 "electric motor" oil. Also, 20w non-detergent oil can be used.
    lube is the only way, all Dual 1219 1229

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  Před 2 lety +1

      Didn't you hear WD-40 is a fix all. When i clean a switch with deoxit or nutrol I get trolled and told that WD-40 is the same thing as contact cleaner. Clearly it is not. Wd40 is about 90wt oil in solvent. When the solvent evaporates you have 90wt oil. Nutrol is basically vegetable oil and alcohol. Used to be diesel and freonTF (the old stuff i still have).

      I was going to say elbow grease but refrained because i could just see someone go to a store and loon for it. My son used to work in a hardware store and someone pulled a prank on him. Came is askkng where the elbow grease was. He went and asked one of the older workers and the laughter had him pretty embarrased. In my day we would all laugh it off today depending on who you laughed at the kid could end up in therapy. We used to have a name for that too. Woosey but the snowflakes got offended by that too. I guess they never heard the saying "sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me". I'll stop now, I am dating myself.

      Retry IPA. Can't say for sure on the Haler but worked on a Psion Series 3 years ago. Hard graft though, lots of kitchen towel / elbow grease (can't be bought in stores, ho, ho). Also tried acetone on some products but you have to remove it pretty fast to avoid damage and usually end up rubbing down and polishing afterwards. Or, better still, wait for the expert (12voltvids).

    • @markmarkofkane8167

    The wooden turntable base isn't a cabinet, it's a *plinth* (or perhaps plynth in Britain-centric countries). Or it would be a plinth if this thing qualified as a record player, or even a statue. In the pantheon of turntables brands and models, I think this Dual's a "bust" 🤣; the plinth should more properly be called a coffin, and the record player should be given a proper burial.

    • @hugobloemers4425
      @hugobloemers4425 Před 2 lety +1

      They are worth money and if you restore them they wipe the floor with the likes of Fluance, etc. They have a cult following and it is for a good reason. BTW, did you notice this was a zero part repair, if you disregard parts that are lost? Only adjustments where required for a 55 year old automatic turntable. You will not be able to buy this quality today.

    • @goodun2974
      @goodun2974 Před 2 lety +1

      @@hugobloemers4425 , I've been repairing and tweaking turntables for 50 years. Duals mostly suck. I've worked on plenty of them. Sure, some people may like them, but some people like Twinkies too. There's no accounting for taste. At the end of the day, its an idler drive turntable with high wow and flutter, and a flimsy tonearm. I'd take a Technics SL-B2 or a Pioneer PL12D over any Dual. Even the cheesiest Thorens like a TD115 would be a step up from this, or most, Duals.

    Hi 12voltvids, I don't normally watch you doing any thing but TV's but I do now and you do great work even on a record player I must see if I can find part one of this video, but you have it working great, the problem here I can't even sell a three in one system or a four in one system as everyone here is either using a MP3 player or their mobile phone, when I started in repairing electronics I purchased five stereo's on ebay.co.uk, they were sold as for parts or repair, so watching your videos helped me a lot as I have said before, it does not matter how many courses anyone does it's the practical that matters and nobody does it better than you do, but I got all of them working but I could not even give them away, anyway it was a good learning process, I must watch more of you fixing other stuff as you do great work and thanks for taking the time to upload this video, I like to see a expert as you are fixing just about anything. Kind regards from Jim. 👍👍👍
