I have no mouth and I must scream is actually surprisingly "hopeful" for humanity. The characters despite growing to almost loathe each other, decide to free one another from torture, Ted resigning to a fate worse than death shows that humanity is capable of empathy and kindness even if it means they'll suffer because of it.
