I love having games like this and Tokaido in my collection for those nights when I desperately want to play something, but just can't bring myself to get into anything heavy or long. I agree with you completely about this being a great gateway game, I've gotten a lot of people into boardgaming with Tokaido in the past.

I like this more than Tokaido. Nice easy chill game.

I completely agree with you on the lighter feel of the game. I have the KS version with painted boats etc... It looks very good on the table but I will sadly let it go as it's too light for me 🤷‍♂️

Did you say the other game about going down the Nile? Or did I miss it

I love Tokaido so I'm sure I'd love Namiji, but owning both seems like it would be redundant.

agreed, I was pleased when I heard it was a sequel to tokaido and then saw 'oh it's just Tokaido again with fish' I passed. I do recommend it but I don't recommend both.

I think both are too similar

There are some redundancies for sure. If you did own both you could do an epic adventure combining both games intermixed together. Start on the Namiji board and do the first leg to the next dock. Once there you have "landed" at a town like a cruise ship would do, so you then do the first leg of Tokaido. When you reach the inn/restaurant stopping space in Tokaido you do the next leg of Namiji and back and forth until you reach the end of both. Defenitely makes a lite simple game, 2x as long but maybe one epic play of it a year is good enough. I used to own Tokaido (just base box) and gave it up because it was too simple.
