  • My 2019 Subaru WRX STI gets an alignment
    In this video, I take my STI to a Subaru dealership for an alignment after the Fortune Auto 500 suspension was installed by Rev Works in Winter Springs Florida. I got as much video as I could without getting in the way of the wheel alignment process. I've never watched a wheel alignment before and found it very interesting. Thankfully durning the alignment, I finally got my steering wheel properly centered. It was always slightly turned to the right from the factory. In the next video, I'll take you with me on a suspension test drive and discuss all the upgrades that were done to the car.
    Thank for watching!

    Hello again! I drove to this Subaru dealership for an alignment straight from Rev Works. At the start of this video, the person doing the alignment was driving the blue STI in my Rev Works Part 1 video so he asks if that was me in the parking lot taking video. I wanted to observe the alignment process without getting in the way so I would have a video to share with all of you. I learned a lot about four wheel alignment watching it happen. I especially appreciate that my steering wheel is properly centered now. It came from the factory with a slight tilt to the right. Special thanks to everyone at this dealership for allowing me to record the process and also to all of you who are watching and commenting! More videos on the way so like and subscribe to support the channel and show your interest in future videos!

    It’s really interesting to see the process. Thanks for sharing!

    I love that he’s pulling down hard on your front lip..good solid place to pull ! Yup! Smh

      I took another look at the video and remember when he did that. I was thinking that wasn’t a good idea but it was too late.

    i would absolutely love to know how these coilovers measure up to the stock ones. I have a 2020 STI coming in January, and I'm hoping I can find a setup that can grip/corner better, but also be a bit more comfortable than stock.

      Definitely get the Fortune Auto 500 but get camber plates for the rears. The suspension feel is 100% better after this upgrade. I can’t get enough of how good the ride feels. Get the front strut tower brace too. You won’t be disappointed.

    Awesome setup! Negative camber in the front might be a bit much for daily driving. Are you planning on tracking the car at all?

    • @CarStory
      @CarStory  Před 3 lety

      Thanks! I would but the nearest track is around three hours away. The driving feels really good. Please let me know if you recommend less negative camber. You would know better than I would.

      @@CarStory -2 up front is the most I'd go. The most popular setup we've seen for daily drivers is -2 in the front and -1 in the rear. Hope that helps!

      @@SubiSpeed Yes it does thanks for letting me know! I think I might have to go back to get that changed to your recommendation!

      @@SubiSpeed My tires are 265x35x18. Is -2 the most you recommend for that tire size or does the 265 width allow for more negative camber?

    • @CarStory
      @CarStory  Před 3 lety

      @@SubiSpeed I brought my front camber down to around 1.6 7 in the front. The rear has no camber plates so they are set at about 2.1 which is within spec. The car handles amazing, hope I don't see any unusual tire wear. Thank you for the advice on the camber. Can you recommend a better short shifter than the stock STI short shifter that came installed with the car? The stick is very tall and I think the throws could be shorter.

    Do your tires rub at all at your ride height? I’m looking at the same wheel and tire setup.

    • @CarStory
      @CarStory  Před 3 lety

      No tires don't rub but I did bottom out the rear strut when I hit a steep incline without slowing down enough. I couldn't have been over 15mph but I heard a bang. Really surprised me. Check my instagram for better pictures of the wheel gap. I had to get the car aligned a second time after this video was made. I probably should have waited longer for the suspension to settle before getting the first alignment.

    Dang you spend a lot of money on the subie 😳 it ain’t cheap lol. CAR IS LOOKING GOOD! CAN RE-CONFIRM THE PO BOX FOR ME BEFORE I HEAD OUT TO THE POST OFFICE PLEASE!!!! Thanks man 😀

      Yes I spent WAY too much on the STI but I have to say it does feel amazing! I wouldn’t do it again though! With sales tax, the STI cost almost $49k after mods! I guess I’ll be driving this car into my 70s!

    How much did it cost? Was it anymore expensive then with stock suspension?

    • @CarStory
      @CarStory  Před rokem

      Fortune auto coilovers cost me about $1500 back then and about $800 to install. They are lighter than the stock suspension, have a better ride quality and offer height adjustment. If you are keeping an STI long term its 100% worth it. I still own this car and would never go back to stock. Don’t forget to get rid of the heavy 19” stock wheels too, they slow the car down.

      get the whiteline roll center kit, lowering a McPherson strut like this makes it handle worse in corners.

    For us that don't have IG, what were your alignment specs before the suspension install?
    Personally, I think you are too low...yes, yes, blasphemy, but, still my thoughts.
    Camber plates, camber bolts and new rear arms are a must. Not that you'd use all of the available adjustment, but gives you the flexibility to adjust as necessary. Then, after that, chassis bracing...
    Good luck with the car.

      Thanks for watching these videos, a lot of work went into making them and its good to see someone interested in this content. I have no idea what the specs were before the install, it was only measured after. I thought the fortune auto 500 came with camber adjustments for the front and back, turns out its only for the front. The back needs camber plates and of course i didn't know to buy them so they set the wheels in the back the only way they could and that how they are today. I have no issues with the alignment the car feels great. The STI really is an amazing car. Road are smooth here in Florida and we don't have pot holes like other states so the ride height hasn't been an issue. It's not my daily driver but when I do drive it it's all highway mostly. The car sticks on curvy highway on and off ramps like glue, I can usually do 70mph on them with no tire squeal. I may be doing a 15k mile and 3yr ownership review video soon so look out for that.

      @@CarStory...came for the titan wheels....FL was nice. Now in OH and the roads are not nice. Especially now that winter is here, pot holes and road ripples are everywhere, but nothing like in the spring...I'm a spring/shock guy and not into coilovers. Bilstein B8s and a mild lowering spring is my ideal setup. Having extra camber adjustment is better than none. Sadly, most of my mods are not visible and focus on function vs form... In the end, we all make the car fit us and no one else; drives great first over looking pretty....

    • @CarStory
      @CarStory  Před 2 lety +1

      @@K03sport The Titan wheels were worth every penny. The sales rep at Titan is the one that suggested I get the 265 width tires and coilovers. In the end it cost a lot but it has completely transformed the way the car feels for the better. It feels lighter and quicker. The only other things I have done are a IAG Street AOS and the cyl 4 cooling mod. I drove the car about 60miles round trip on the highway last night and I really love driving it. I think about selling it sometimes but I probably won't. It's too unique and I keep it like a museum piece in my garage. I think clean examples of this generation STI may start climbing up in value in a few years.
