Trout Fishing in High Water with PowerBait MICE TAILS - Trout Bait

  • I am finally fishing the high water for trout with this bait I got in the mail, PowerBait Mice Tails. These Mice Tails are an interesting trout bait. It resembles a Power Egg but like the name says, it has a tail. Letting it bounce off the bottom with a simple rig, I am able to catch two trout that I end up taking home. The first half of this can be seen in the previous video. I got the boots, got the Power Bait, and finally got the Trout. I was happy to try out the new bait that a nice subscriber sent to the show.

I've already told this story before but here we go.
Right so when i started out trout fishing about three years ago all i knew was to use power bait.
I wasn't really a big fan of live bait and it had been YEARS since i last fished.
I figured i would go to my local water shad and ask others for tips and learn a thing or two.
These people at my local water shad were stuck up,nasty, etc and treated me like they didn't want me there.
That didn't stop me, Being lucky or doing something right i got my first trout!
I start freaking out leo style and saying how beautiful it is and look at the colors and every one else around me is giving me the "look"
My sister manage to catch her first one too.
Days later i went to a walmart and got a handful of power bait in a few colors thinking this was all i needed.
I then went to my local water shad like before and there happen to be a guy near a spot i can fish safely from the bank.
He happened to be in waders and at this point i didn't bother asking him anything because people were rude to me other times.
Like we were on top of each other, He was in front of me and i was behind him.
He was catching trout left and right and i didn't get zip.
This went on for a bit and i ended up saying screw this and threw in the towel.
I packed up my stuff and was ready to head back home when i hear a Stop!
I look around and figured it must of been him and said why?
The guy then said you want a fish?, I'll get you one!
I said thanks for the offer but it would feel good to catch one myself.
The guy said you don't understand and started walking out of the stream.
Once hes on land he then said show me your setup, I did and he cut everything off.
He then tied on a new hook, split shot and gave me a pink rubber worm.
He then said 100% you'll get one now and points to a spot in the stream and tells me what to do.
Sure enough i did get my second trout of my whole life and i thank him and offer his stuff back and the fish it was the right thing to do.
He told me no you're going to keep it because you earned it and earned that fish, The fact that you took the time and allowed me to teach you something you were unaware of is more than enough for me.
We then talked for a bit and i explain to him how others made me feel while fishing and how they were rude, etc.
He then tells me "Well you're going to run into "those" kind of people from time to time but don't let that get to you."
He then tells me "I want you to know there are good people like myself that would rather take time out of our day and help another person like yourself."
He then tells me "I want you to be that person and if you see somebody having a hard time please offer them some help but only if they are willing listen and take it."
He remember about the trout and said you better get home quickly and cook up that trout!
I laughed and said yeah i guess you're right and packed up and was on my way out when he said "See you later kid, Hopefully we get to meet up again."
From that day on , I try and help as many people as i can and tell them how i use stuff and what has worked for me and how i do it i keep no fishing secrets.
With that said those bubble gum trout worms work on EVERYTHING when the time is right and in your favor.

The very first fish I ever caught was a rainbow trout. Don’t remember how big it was but I was super happy to catch my first fish. I was younger than 13 at the time and when I got that beautiful rainbow trout I’ve loved fishing since.
I’m 22 now and every summer I go a full week away from home just for fishing trout. I enjoy it. :)

It will still snag if the current catches the line just right but after about 2 or 3 snags I put a smaller weight on and rarely have an issue. Also I love using the mice/mouse tails with a trout magnet bobber.

They planting one this week, I been checking last 3 days, not yet..but once the fish are in, imma use my mice tails, and maybe some power crickets, or maybe try the power maggots... don’t get me wrong, powerbait is bomb in the right situation, and I love Berkeley products, just that it’s all specifically designed, IMO, for planters. But I am also trying the pink trout worms for steelhead this year, hear good things about that.

You might try lighter split shot to equal the weight of that single heavier one. Separate them by a couple, maybe three inches. I've gone up to three of 'em. Sometimes it works, sometimes it makes things worse!

    • @Stevefor1776
      @Stevefor1776 Před 5 lety

@@RealisticFishing Yeah, I hear you. Seems that the main advantage with using smaller split shot than we usually find in bass fishing is that you can really fine tune the weight, get your bait down to where it's barely ticking the bottom. With the larger shot you might be "floating" over the bottom or dragging/snagging. Getting that Goldilocks "just right" is more difficult. Coming from the trout end and just getting into bass, I'm still a little stunned by the differences: 50LB. LINE?!? I'm used to 4lb!

It looked as if you were using a "removable split shot". In my experience their design with the two small appendages used for removal, tend to snag a lot more over a rocky or stone river bed than the old-fashioned round split shot that look like BB's or Shot. The round split shot seem to bounce off of the rocks a bit better. You might wish to compare the two sometime. Loved your video.

It might make a tiny bit of difference, but I have snagged plenty with the round shape as well.

I used the same mouse tails in Ca and got some trout with them. I also used some with white heads and red tails as well as red heads with yellow tails. I am in Tx now but both my local lakes are at the flood stage and fishing is not good it either one unless you have a boat and can get out on it.
Have done done fishing on Ft. Hood on a couple different stocked lakes and did get a 18 lb cat a couple days ago at Nolan Lake.

wow - nice catch on these things. I have a couple of colors of the mice tails and tried them many times and never caught nothing. I usually put them on a jig hook and jig them but... no luck for me..

Sweet fish, pretty cool bait there. Never seen these mice tails until your last videos. Pretty cool will keep that in mind next time we have trout season. Wonder if it will will work on stocked trout in a lake.

I went trout fishing today. The trout they plant in the lakes around here ain't even big enough to eat one of those mouse tails.
