  • Early research is beginning to show the link between early trauma and chronic pain. Peter A. Levine, PhD, the developer of Somatic Experiencing and one of the forerunners in working with trauma, provides a unique practice on boundaries. The practice given assists in rooting out trauma in the relief of chronic pain such as migraines, PMS, irritable bowel syndrome, etc. This practice and many more can be found in Dr. Levine's program Body As Healer: Freedom from Chronic pain: product.soundstrue.com/body-a...

    I did se therapy for years. Which I found really interesting and useful in terms of staying online and connected to myself and others. However, I also felt like my physical health issues were minimised by the idea that this trauma intervention could heal them, after years of trying and managing a great deal of pain, being told that my symptoms were all a trauma response, I was diagnosed with Lupus as well as a type of epilepsy that impacts my muscle movement and both cause chronic migraine, I have medication that helps with these. I feel like the idea that any one approach to health is the "right' one, even if it's suggested subtly, can cause a great deal of harm. I still use SE techniques, I also meditate and practice feldenkrais and lots of nature based stuff, and focus on nutrition and take traditional medicines. No one approach to health is going to be a cure all for anyone. Not all IBS like or pain based issues are trauma responses even if one has experienced a great deal of trauma. These things often intertwine, trauma/life experiences,, genetics, epigenetics, environment and so much more, shape us and our health. Try different things:)

      I agree. I do love this trauma work but I follow my own intuition on what to do next. Sometimes somatic, or other modalities and sometimes more conventional things. I always say “take what works and leave the rest”

    This was so nice. Chairs !! - i'm yet to find one that supports the small of my back! - I just found some books and CDs my therapist gave me of your stuff on my shelf. Nice. And then i found this video. Such a nice gentle way of explaining this. I could feel the tapping after it stopped and i know what you mean by readiness. Lovely - thankyou. Most of the time in the last few years i feel like i'm lurching into the next room before i get there.

    Peter Levine: or lie down if you feel comfortable...
    Me: don't mind if I do
    Also Me: one hour later, having slept deeply 😅

    Thank you, Dr. Levine. You are such a kind and caring person. I have a question. When I do this exercise, as I begin noticing my hand, I break down and start crying. Is that normal and what on earth causes me to cry about such a simple exercise?

      I feel you, I judge myself the same way. And long time ago I cried so much from one of his simple exercises and I stopped reading his book, stopped believing things could get better. It will be okay. I can say that now

    • @KarineTKnudsen
      @KarineTKnudsen Před 5 měsíci +2

      Do not ever put yourself down for crying. Crying is important, as it makes the body release calming hormones. Your body has its reason to cry. Trust it. I cry in public if I have to. There are more kind people than bad. 💜

    If parts of my body seem to not feel much at all will it potentially improve with time?
    I have not felt life is a safe place for some time , after traumatic events.
    I have also come to ignore my body because it’s in physical chronic pain for extended time also as a coping mechanism,
    Thoughts ?

    Is there some way to find out whether or not I'm disconnected from my body?
    Since I've had bladder pain for around 32 years, it's quite annoying and triggering to be told I'm disconnected from it. In what way and why? I can't seem to grasp this concept. Thanks
