      Hey norb thanks, Yep brake checking is classed as dangerous driving and after googling it apparently it is unlimited fine meaning the judge can put his own price on it depending on the situation and up to 2 years imprisonment If somebody was killed it's 14 years in prison, all because he wanted to sit in the middle lane and block all traffic that's trying to get passed including myself at 5am, stupid games gets stupid rewards 🤦

    Total numbskull is too polite.... I'm a 3.5t van driver and the amount of other drivers? That seem to think we can do 70mph on a dual carriage way and decide to chew our rear's off if we are overtaking someone like yourself or slower cars etc is untrue. I would like to see all new drivers spend time out on the road in different vehicles ie lgv's, 3.5t vans, buses so they get an idea of what other road users see, can't see and their laws and rules they have to abide by and why lane hogging is just not on. Stay safe out there

      Soon after leaving school in 1960 my farther got me a job in heavy construction, he put me through every department and job I could do with my age bracket. I was driving 15cwt store vans at 17 and a 3 ton Trader in London. Later on another site it was a 5 ton Morris and later again a 7ton ERF. This was the most challenging as it was crash box and no power steering or brakes. I also did a lot of car deliveries for my brother using Land Rovers and trailers. I'd also gained experience with farm trailers, so a good cross section of smaller HGVs. I got my HGV in the early eighties and did a convoy run from Pinewood UK to midway down the Nile in Egypt.
      But it's the shear frustration caused me to quit HGV driving and I didn't even have multi loads of timed deliveries etc. you guys have. So you all have my total respect for what you do, I'm the guy who flashes you out at junctions, roundabouts etc. I flash you in when you overtake, I get out of you way when on motorways as I know your motors are governed and you need to keep your speed up. Yes you maybe speeding but I'm not a cop and so will not use my car to slow you down. Thanks for posting and good luck with your strap throwing. PS. My wife learnt about trucks by riding in my cab, it changed her driving too.

    Just a quick point on you driving on private land without you first being allowed to secure your load before moving around site....legally you are still responsible, not them, regardless of what they say. If the load toppled or any part fell off for example, and injured someone or danaged property, it's entirely your fault. Hence, you need to be aware of that before you manouver/drive on or around any land, private or public, with any type of insecure load!!

    • @Anonymous-Kev
      @Anonymous-Kev  Před 5 dny

      Correct, but BMI enforced a rule you can't leave your vehicle so all the rules you said are not my responsibility meaning BMI becomes responsible! You can't enforce a rule and expect drivers to manoeuvre around a yard and get out when not supposed to It's impossible so it's their responsibility not mine.. but in some cases on other sites yes it is my responsibility as I am allowed to get out!

    • @grahamnimmo4656
      @grahamnimmo4656 Před 4 dny

      @Anonymous-Kev I think you missed my point. I think you will find, (and i hope you never will have to) that, if you were handed a written and ideally signed declaration from bmi, on official bmi headed paper or digital copy of the same, before you move your vehicle, that clearly stated that due to their "no leaving the cab whilst on site, even to safely secure your load" policy, that you are not liable in any way AND that they are fully indemnifying you for all incidents, accidents, damages and costs resulting from you being instructed to move your vehicle on site without you being allowed to first secure your load, which resulted both directly and indirectly as a result of you moving your vehicle on site under their instructions, that it still would NOT remove your liabilty. Think about if you were to be given such a formal official written notice from the company accepting all the liability for you moving your vehicle unsafely on site (which is highly unlikely that they wil ever give you), and a fatal accident occurred, where your load fell off and killed someone, i assure you that you will still be held liable and told that it doesn't matter what they or anyone else says, you are the driver and are ultimately responsible. Such an official notice from them may well cover you against your liabilities for any damage caused, but such damage is covered in anycase by your own employers liabilty insurance.
      They are lieing to you and conning you. You need to fully understand the position you are being put in. Health and safety is a legal requirement and a criminal offence to deliberately breach. They can not and should not force you to perform an unsafe manouver just because their own stupid, ill thought out safety policy tries to protect pedestrians on foot in the yard. You have to be in a suitable place to unstrap your load hence that is also a safe place restrap your remaining load before moving the vehicle. If they have a crazy and obviously unsafe policy of designating a safe unstrapping area that then requires you to dangerously move your vehicle to another location to be unloaded then that is both crazy and dangerous. Ask to see a copy of their risk assessment and method statement for this. I bet they dont have one. But ask politely. Also ask for a copy of or where you can read their posted health and safety statement and ideally, their full health and safety policy. I would also officially inform your own employer's transport manager of this issue and seek instruction from them on how you should proceed, but ideally do this by text or email so you have a written record of everything. Ultimately you must cover your own arse here and not fall for the "it's ok" or the "it will be fine, dont worry " lines! I say this to help you, not lecture you as i have been in many situations like this and every time when i fully investigate it, it ALWAYS comes down to the driver.
      If you feel yo have to move your vehicle for fear of losing your job then be extra super careful and super slow whilst manouvering on site with an insecure load! But ultimately if you do think it to be too dangerous, don't do it and if necessary get a safer driving job where you are not put in such positions. You only really do this job for money. Your health and safety and well-being come first before any delivery or any job. Take care

    Hey mate, the random little breaks he does is not actually him breaking. It's an electric so when he let's go off the gas the regen breaking kicks in and it starts to break hence the random little breaks light bursts. It's annoying but some regen breaking works like normal breaks so it's to warn u that he he is breaking.
    The first break check was obviously a dick head move but hopefully I can educate others why electric cars keep doing the 'break tap' thing, it's just the regen kicking in.

    I want to start a school program where we get a few trucks of different sizes and put teenage drivers in the hot seat so they can “see” just how much they can’t see. Get kids in a school yard to try and find somewhere around the truck where they can be seen then have a look for themselves from the cab.
    I think it’d be particularly good with b doubles here in oz. I think it’d be really good if we could get a learners auto and get kids to try and stop a truck. It’s like taking the yankee driver ed program to the next level.

      Sounds like a great idea, but as crazy as it sounds people don't learn anymore it seems like the only learn from the mistakes, like mobile phones for example people will continuously use them until the worse happens or a near death experience.. or killing another driver etc, brake checkers are same they don't realise what the outcome is unless something tragic happens then it might trigger a brain cell to realise oops I messed up.. to me this is how people learn it's crazy!

    Ok. So, to avoid ripping the arch to shreds, how about dropping the lift before you enter the yard and, if you don't need it, raising it after leaving.
    6mph? It's psychological. 6mph instead of 5 is like 9mph instead of 10. Drivers are more likely to watch their speed if the number is unusual. If it's posted 5 mph, drivers will speed. It's in our nature.
