I’m sure you are right but I love my Fenix 7 and the data it gives me and while not perfect, they give me an idea and as for VO2 Max, I’m just intrigued to know what it will spit out. If I had $8,000 (let alone $15,000) to spend would I? No say that’s absurd. I would turn to good old eBay.
Reminds me of the old story: Man walks in to the shop and asks what's the difference between the $10k bike and the $5k one? About 2kgs? After much though the man says I'll take the $10k one. Salesman says I would just lose 2kgs around your middle and safe yourself $5k 🤣

Good useful video. Thank. On a side note, funny seeing you as the only guy running shirtless with Lucy Charles Barclay 😂

I agree with majority of every statement you made and agree that a lot of money is wasted on stuff we don't need. When you made the comment though about a lot of athletes having an upset stomach, in my time I have found that to be more because people are not practicing nutrition in training. For example if I want to hit 90 g of carbs in a race per hour, I'm a road racer btw, I need to practice putting down 90 grams of carbs multiple times in training in order for my stomach and gut to be trained for race day. Do you think that is more of the issue where people are not training nutrition? If the nutrition hurts me in training I will then figure out which one doesn't hurt my stomach but it is something that needs to be trained and tested in my opinion. Thoughts??

Would add honorable mention items of things to not waste money of of Maurten gels, lactate strips, and chain lube that costs more than $15 a bottle

While I don't need it, I love my high-end triathlon bike. I started with an aluminum road bike 10 years ago and have worked my way up. You are right that none of these are needed but I like my toys. These are great points and if you are deciding what to invest in, you don't need any of these.

I'm looking for my first proper bike to train for triathlons but the information I'm getting is different from every source. Some say buy a cheap used bike, some say buy a road bike and attach clip on bars, some say just buy the tt bike if you can afford it. So my point is if I can afford the triathlon bike I want, shouldn't I just get that one?

Fair enough lots of athletes are throwing far too much money at problems that don’t exist. I would also say 100 percent buy a quality used Tri bike on the secondhand market, get a bikefit and use some quality of the money you saved to customize the bike to fit you and your race plans. I’ve built mine up 3 time now for less than 1/2 the price of a new super bike and she is way more efficient for me because of that

Honestly, all the gains purported to be true are gains for the very fastest athletes. Us age groupers will still plug along in our group with nothing measurable while using these products. I'm content with my 2nd hand tri bike. It's faster than a road bike and I'll focus on my run because I know I can make gains there, just plugging along. Swim, we won't discuss. No pools around my area.
