  • Climbing this mountain IS risky. There are four rope sections and many narrow, ledge switchbacks going up. Mt. Kirkjufell is located in West Iceland, on the Snaefellsness Peninsula. Do not attempt this if rainy or wet, as the grass and rocks are slippery and dangerous. There was another fatal fall in October 2022, and the mountain is now closed to climbing. It is set to reopen June 2023 for the summer.

    Thank you for this amazing video! I was there last week and saw people going up! I wanted to do it myself, but the fright of now know how to get back down... didn't let me do it!!! So thanks again for this magical video!

      You're very welcome! I'm so glad this video can help people decide whether to tackle this mountain or not. You made a good decision. I look back on it with fright and wonder how I ever did it.
      Hope you enjoyed Iceland with all of it's amazing places!

    Enjoyed this video a lot, delighted that you showed the descent.
    I’ve always wanted to climb Kirkjufell and have been at the base already but after watching your video I realise I don’t have any experience of rope climbing and I suffer from vertigo when close to the edge. 😀
    But your video was very useful because I now know for sure not to try it.
    The views from your video looked incredible.

      I'm really glad to hear that you liked the video and that it was helpful to you in making a decision on whether or not to climb it. I still have nightmares of those narrow ledges, scared I'd lose my balance and fall off. Lol!😯
      I agree with you about the views. They were just breathtaking!
      I appreciate your comment and wish you the best!

      @@TaterTrails thank you.
      Yeah, it’s actually the ledges that scare me more than the ropes. 😂😂
      Al the best to you too.

    What a beautiful video! Gorgeous views! I’m not sure I’d want to climb this one, though. I was getting dizzy and feeling my stomach drop just from the footage.😂
    Loved it! Thanks for sharing!

    Amazing video!! I will spend few day at the peninsula next month,, would love to give a try to the hike,, what the name of that restaurant that dessert looks like is calling me 😂

      @TaterTrails  Před 11 měsíci

      Thank you! The name of the restaurant is Bjargarsteinn Mathus. You might need a reservation, but it is SO good! Hope you have an amazing time on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula! Please be careful if you attempt to climb Kirkjufell. I would avoid it if it's rainy or wet. Wishing you the best!

    Good job and congratulations. 5 days ago i was try to climb up there and i came to the first rope section. But weather was a little rainy and i didnt have good and comortable clothes for climbing so i made smart decision to go down. I was wondering how much did i have to top??? Can you explain me where i was in that mountain 😅

    • @TaterTrails
      @TaterTrails  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Thank you! You absolutely made the right decision to go down when you did, and we would have done the same thing in wet weather. At the first rope section, my guess is that you were not quite 1/2 of the way to the top, and the most dangerous parts were from before the 2nd rope and up. So, you still had a long way to go, but I commend you for making the right choice. 🤔😀

    There was 3 deaths in the past 4 years.
    Experienced mountaineers without helmet and harnesses? 🤔

    • @TaterTrails
      @TaterTrails  Před rokem +5

      Helmets and harnesses are of no use on this mountain. There is nothing to clip into and a helmet won't save you from a fall off this mountain. Each person has to decide for themselves whether or not to take the risk. We were prepared to turn around if we thought we couldn't do it safely. For us, we thought the risk was acceptable. Would I climb this mountain again? No, I wouldn't.
