- This little town is a great retreat, affordable and quiet with a decent town center of historic buildings and Horse Country. Real Cowboys and retired folks enjoying the Florida Weather on the shores of the states largest lake known for bass fishing.
I have a home in Okeechobee and love the relaxing feel there !!!
My Grandfather used to live in Okeechobee the memories of us fishing on a boat in Lake Okeechobee and an Alligator and manatees coming up to our boat. Rest In Peace Grandpa.

Not many Floridians have seen this town since its located in a region isolated. So it should be a good addition to the channel. The town is surprisingly clean for the region I expected worst LOL - I drove thru on 70 one time and honestly i remember it worst than what I actually saw. LOL

I haven’t been home since 1985. I miss Okeechobee so much. It hasn’t changed much since then. I love middle school and some high school there. Very good place to retire though! Thanks for posting!

i was born here and moved to nyc when i was a small kid. it used to be beautiful esp before the lake was ruined from pollutionl it used to be crystal clear down to the bottom, 14 feet down!!!!!

I have been in Okeechobee some years ago and never knew had a Peruvian restaurant! I am Peruvian and living in Missouri. I lost it. :(

Love it there. Alot of my family has lived there since ww2. Nice people and it's very pretty!
I am OLD lol. I like how the Villages is kept so beautiful, but the houses are so close to each other. We have 4 acres and next to a forest. We have alot of privacy which I love, but so cold in maine
Do you mean the Villages in Ocala? I would not live there...Too many rule you need to be rich to live among those Nosie stuck up people my opinion
in the 70s , a bowling alley ,a few rv parks around the lake , roller skating ring, and a winn dixie
I lived there as a child. This looks nothing like it used to. I moved in 1964 though. It was nothing but cattle ranches when I was there. Looks huge now compared to then

I have a house there the hurricane took out my fla room and damaged the house so yes it happens
We do get hurricanes and have had much damage from them....but we work hard to rebuild! 2004 and 2005 brought quite a bit of damage.
I can tell you if you're interested...I moved to NYC when I was only 7. Nothing in my life was the same. Imagine how much different it would have been if we had stayed.
hurricanes come through all of our towns here in florida!!! eventually one always will! they dont last very long though.

The roads may be wide to allow for flooding and not stop traffic flow or it Harkins back to the early days when streets were wide to accommodate horse drawn vehicles and the movement of cattle thru town.

Unfortunately I live Maine now but I used to live in okeechobee Florida great place to live.

Those wide roads used to have concrete medians and they took the medians out. Funny, though, one of those wide roads is indeed the start of our parade route.
Used to be some great bar b que places there. Fat johnies i had all the recycling contracts for city and county car dealerships. As well. Was just there to pick up winsheild for an r/v

Big O is a cute little city. There's not a lot to do there though, but I must say that I love the flea markets over there. I'm not sure if this is still true, but pregnant women deliver babies in Fort Pierce or Sebring which is a disadvantage if that's still true. It's the place to live if you love small and quiet towns.
Still true, unless it's an emergency... could use a expansion to the hospital as the population has grown 3 fold since its opening.
When the hospital first opened here it had an ob Ward. They delivered babies there for a short time. They have not delivered babies here routinely in many, many years.
The best thing I did was leave this city its nothing to do boring, I live in Hallandale Beach which is next Miami and Hollywood Beach the night life is amazing and its always some were to go and enjoy yourself.

Looks like a nice clean well kept area. Just can't afford the Villages. We are from Maine.
Villages is for OLD retired and at least 300,000 net worth who still want to socialize. This town in the video more for country people .. with 150,000 net worth u could pull this off comfortably.
If I remember correctly its not its dirty, smells like cow manure everywhere extremely poverty ridden and full of meth. Couldn't even fish in the lake it smelled horrible too. Had like 2 main streets the way in and the most important street, the way out.
There are several nice areas in Okeechobee. The main roads into the community have dairies on them and yes you can smell them out there. However, you don’t smell that once you are away from the pastures. This is a nice quiet town filled with great people! We have our drug problems like anywhere else, but overall it is great.
um honey it's the south. most of it , hell most of america is a nice clean well kept area. If you want shit everywhere and piled up garbage you got NYC. Or tany other ghetto. Every one of our cities and small towns are clean af except for big cities. Ever been to Miami? The fucking streets glitter with sunlight.

I would never want to live in a tiny town like this. What is with you old people and weird retirement places? What ever happened to buying a house like normal people? There are plenty of luxury apartments and houses to buy for $100K down there..youd live like kings
I love living in Okeechobee and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. I don’t think that la granja was ever open lol.

@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS Republican state has its positives eg criminals in CA, IL, and NYC have been re-infracting as soon as they get out of jail bc they can get out on bond fast. They then are free to commit burglaries, assaults, and murders in broad daylight again . At least FL is tough on crime. I appreciate that.

This town is part of the old agricultural community of Florida. It’s reminiscent of the Wild West. Sadly so are the mindsets of some of the people there. Not a good place to raise a family. Nothing is close by. Also on a positive note nothing is close by lol

Crime rate is higher than the national average. Schools are awful with fight clubs, cutting clubs, and suicide clubs. Racial tension and top heavy with low paying entry level jobs. Even the fishing sucks anymore.
