    I have a '15 suburban and I absolutely love it when towing. I haul 6500 lbs behind it all the time through hilly West Virginia roads and it goes like a champ! The auto leveling suspension is a amazing. No more feeling like you're looking at the sky. Ford looks nice but I'll stick with my suburban!

    • @smarticus6384
      @smarticus6384 Před 6 lety +2

      FYI - Rust is an electrochemical corrosion. Aluminum body panels and e-coated frames will long outlast the current version of anything built with inferior coated frames (wax) and painted steel. Just a fact. Visit any junk yard and within the row of rusting hulks you will see many examples. None of which will be rusting aluminum bodies.

    • @smarticus6384
      @smarticus6384 Před 6 lety

      I can already see I am wasting my time with you. BTW - All F-series use steel frames with 77% being "High-strength steel". That is up from 23%. Again unmatched by any rival right now. Visit any auto junk yard and then visit any aircraft junk yard and you will see first hand the differences that time and corrosion has on these materials. Also fatigue is a result of a weakening of material caused by repeatedly applied loads. All metals are subject to fatigue. Its what engineers do, they design parts to last for so long. Usually a part that failed due to fatigue has less to do with material and more to do with applied design. I suppose you will disagree until the brand that you covet the most also switches to Aluminum panels and steel frames with more high strength steel in them. Because its only a matter of time that they all will be doing the same thing and follow Ford's lead.

    A big problem with the F150 for towing is how much squat is in the back end. Anyone who’s ever had a load in their F150 and driven down a gravel road knows how much flex there is in the rear suspension (and frame), so it’s disappointing to see this ‘brand new’ truck squat so much. I’m pretty sure that Suburban uses a 5-link and the RAM does too (and also offers load-levelling abilities with the air suspension). I guess Ford is all about those profit margins. Sad to see. Such a missed opportunity.

    The Chevy looks way more composed vs the Ford. The Expedition has far more rear squat than the suburban. Having a balanced vehicle while towing heavy, relative to the trucks towing capacity, is far more important than who can accelerate faster up a hill. Taking their word for it, the suburbans grade braking was a little better as well. As much as I love forced induction and really like the Ecoboost platform. I'd buy an 2018 suburban with the new 10speed auto over the Ecoboost Expedition any day. More over, I'd prefer a Yukon XL Denali with the 6.2/10sp.

    • @wildbill23c

      I agree, especially for the price they put on the Expedition, and to only have a damn V6 in it is pathetic. I could care less about the ecoboost shit, that's put there to considerably shorten the engine life and cause nothing but problems and a money pit down the road.

I drive both at work, and when it snows or ices over, I don't dare touch the Expedition. The 4WD system and traction control is absolute garbage. Same thing with a family with a ton of luggage. • @iggibars
      @iggibars Před 6 lety +1

      The trailer was better suited for the Suburban's hitch ball height. They didn't use a proper tow hitch on the expedition to equalize the level of the trailer. That's what causes that drop. You can see how the trailer is leaning backwards...that means the stock trailer hitch they were using was too high for the level of the trailer. If the Expedition's suspension could not handle the weight, you would see the suspension squatting while the front of the trailer is pointed at the ground. It's the opposite in this case because they did not use a proper leveling hitch which caused the weight of the uneven trailer tongue to push the uneven weight of the trailer down onto the Expedition's hitch attachment point. That's actually dangerous and puts lots of excess strain on your vehicle.

    • @NGLCOCONUTS
      @NGLCOCONUTS Před 6 lety +1

    I think the expedition is more a professional truck/van, with more power, more gears, a more upscale interior, massaging seats (for real :o ), whereas the suburban is more of a family truck. 2 screens for passagers, a little bit more room, easier access to seats with a larger corridor to remove/install baby car seats.
    I prefer the Suburban if I think of my 5 children, I prefer the Expedition if I think of the massaging seats

    I have driven both of these vehicles over an extended period of time. The Suburban has more leg room, is easier to get in and out of, gets 26 mpg, compared to Ford's 18 mpg in exactly the same driving conditions, and the Chevrolet has a much higher quality of construction / better fit and finish, than the Ford. The Suburban was a much more powerful vehicle to drive. The Ford lacked the torque and acceleration of the Chevrolet. Hands down, the Chevrolet was a far superior vehicle in my experience.

      Hoss Cartwright and that design costs visibility. Chevy has an issue with this in the Tahoe and camaro as well. It’s actually made me down right HATE driving my parents suv. I haven’t driven an expedition in a while so idk about it. I do really dislike the rear end of the expedition. The lights are massive.

  • @matts9352
    @matts9352 Před 6 lety

    The difference in cargo is due to a V8 vs a small V6. If the Expedition had a V8 in it the cargo would be closer, potentially the Suburban being slightly higher. Drive a 10 speed through town, especially with a load on, it never gets done shifting making the trans pop and bang as it goes to up shift (for the 100th time) just as you get out of it for a red light or traffic.
    And regardless of brand, please quit flooring it to tow. Learn where your peak numbers range is and drive it there. It will make life so much easier on your powertrain and make your ride more enjoyable.

    I'd want to see the long-term reliability of those ecoboost engines in this kind of environment. Something about a V8 at 1500 that sounds more reliable at this point. Especially since I'm still running the same 8 and tranny in my 2001 Yukon with 307,000 miles - that I paid 50% less than what they want for them now. So much profit in these rigs.

    • @workct4102

      Except your V8 will still be turning higher RPMs because it has less torque, and a higher rear ratio....that transmission will be downshifting all the time. I know...I have a Chevy with the 6.0 and 6 spd....always shifting just to maintain speed
