    May want to look into getting 4 fire bricks for the openings, that way you can close the holes a little bit and getting a more even heat across the metal. also may help save on gas maybe? lets you keep the heat in so you don't have to burn as much gas.

    Would like to see it in operation after you put in some brick lined doors on it.
    Did you compare the firebrick that came with it against known firebrick?
    I've never seen a forge throw out flames like that. That shouldn't happen.
    Seems to me the jets are positioned wrong. Also I would have put a T section between the risers then hooked the valve to the T to allow a more even distribution of gas.

  • @KageStelhman
    @KageStelhman Před 3 lety +7

    I would have put a coat of satanite on the kaowool before firing up the forge to keep the Kaowool fibers out of the air, added insulation and heat retention are a side benefit. I also would have used thicker Kaowool so as to keep the external temperatures low enough to not leave a 3rd degree burn if you accidentally brush up against it

    • @TheGoodoftheLand
      @TheGoodoftheLand  Před 3 lety +1

      I forgot to mention, it comes with the coating. Takes two days to dry so I shot the vid before coating. Really don't like those 600 degree outside Temps and the huge flames shooting out the front and back.

    • @KageStelhman
      @KageStelhman Před 3 lety

      @@TheGoodoftheLand you can block off the Flames billowing out the front and back with a piece of fire brick, 600 degree outside temps can be shored up with satanite and thicker Kaowool. I mean it'll still be over 150 degrees externally, but not nearly as hot as it sits now.
      Personally It looks like someone tried to copy a build here on youtube (czcams.com/video/vQN7EqGMTuo/video.html) that I saw a few years back using a stainless steel trash bin.... But it didn't turn out nearly as well and it looks like they stepped on the can :P
      In any case, were it built better I might have considered picking one up as a back up in case mine decides to crap out for some reason... Those Burners however look pretty solid, the regulator... I would have thrown it in the scrap pile and used one that I know is safe (the one that comes with it looks a little too Janky for my personal tastes)
      Anyhow, I've taken up enough of your time with my rambling and bad grammar
      Enjoy the rest of your day, and you and yours stay safe out there.

    Just giving a headsup the front and back burner shouldn't have varied as much as it did. You had a lot more material at the front burner that was sapping the heat from the hotspot on the metal. The back burner was rather close to the tip and the heat isn't going to dissipate nearly as well. If the back burner with a better test still produces more heat use that as the front side as the excess material will dissipate the heat a bit better and and it out so to speak.

      @@luciusirving5926 some guy did a test with a torch held it in the same spot on the hempcrete for some time and it only made it turn black but id imagine forge temp is hotter then a torch so im not sure if it would even work for forging temp

    Airborne Kaowool dust isn't healthy and foolish to not warn potential new people. Don't be in a newbie hurry to light it up without looking into refractory cement or it's proper installation and curing. It's easy, Safer, and makes your Kaowool last much longer. It just takes a little more time to be much safer and save money in the long run.
