Am anannie the current place am working right now this is my 5th year at first it was difficult for me becoz the way my boss used to talk to me badly I want to quit at the first month but I had be patient coz her youngest daughter was very nice she used to come and tell me sorry the way mum has talk to you.with time my boss changes become nice coz the way I was relating with her daughter it was nice up now am still working for her even something she travels for whole year and leave with her kids I just thanks God for His grace and keeping us strong with him Everything is possible

The day I heard a lady in her 60s say walilea watoto with nannies getting up asubuhi and as the employer leaves for work the nanny says, "ata mimi natoka"; that is the day I decided at the end of the day, the kids grow!

Soila I'm with you on Number 8. Not to be the devil's advocate but kids are a direct product of their environment. My son's personality is very outgoing and he's learning to speak quite quickly and I don't spend the day with him my nanny does. She's very social she's made friends outside the home and to some extension so has he. If your nanny isn't engagingly the children especially for Imora it might be a little challenging. You mentioned Mani being able to count numbers is this something Imora can pick up from hanging out with the nanny. Personally for me child first and then everything else.

That is the problem with most Africans and Arabs. A nanny is there to help with the children only. A housekeeper is there to clean the house and do laundry. If you pay them more they also cook your meals. House helps are humans who also get exhausted. If you want you children to get proper attention, make sure that your helper is not over exhausted.
Working hours should be normal and overtime must be paid

Am a nunny now 5yrs at my place of work.
My 1st house I stayed for 3yrs. The bosslady was so nice with me.
But I left becoz her hubby wanted to rape me. And I never told her coz I feared they will separate.
My second house I stayed for 3yrs again and had to leave coz they lost their job and were unable to pay me. But they were super nice with me.
I need to better my life.
So I choose to stick in one place until I achieve what I want.
I believe being in one place enables one to plan their money and gives someone peace of mind.
I feel I only need 1 more year and I will call it off!! I will go and employ my own nunny and treat her the way ave been treated by my employers.
They treated me really good. God bless them for me.

Great topic. Some of the things i think happens is when yoi stay with people even if it's relatives or siblings mazoeana starts which is a human nature that we can't control. Ofcos we can set boundaries. Here abroad its expensive to hire nannies so we end up rotating shift where i have learned its not easy to take care of kids and still do household stuff and i have one child. Due to that i think we should change to where we hire nannies to only take care of kids and do light duty work like washing the kids clothes. This will allow them to focus only on the kids. If there's a way to have a nanny come in the morning and leave in the evening, it will reduce tension na kuzoeana. When you stay home with a child with no help then you strat appreciating tge little help you get. When you leave with people especially strangers then you realize the importance of Space.

It's can really disorganize you as an employer and your finances. I hope you manage to sort it all out.
Be careful that you are not shopping for 2. I used to wonder but never suspected because she has stayed for long, over 50 until I learnt that during the day, things move courtesy of collaboration in the court. She stayed for 6 years, was planning a good package but the things I discovered would sound like fiction. Don't trust anyone apart from yourself.

When it come to nannies there is a need for patience because they are not perfect. So the best thing is to establish your priorities, which the most important is how they deal with your kids, the rest they can learn. Changing nannies often might interfere with the children's growth.
I have a feeling you guys are looking for a perfect nanny someone who can do household chores perfectly, good with kids, entertaining your friends, cook good food, great personality of which it isn't possible.

I don't agree with this sentiments. I have 4 wonderful children, 2 are teenagers so I have had my fair share of nanny drama. As recently as 2019, I had a total of 7 nanny's in 10 months. I currently have one who has stayed with us since Nov 2019. No matter how well you treat some of them they will still leave if they were never meant to stay. I have had a total of 4 nannies who have stayed with us for 3yrs plus on different intervals. Be human, set them free to eat with you, pay them on time, give them 1 off day a week, train them and let them know the hse rules from day 1, Your house your rules, you shouldn't compromise on things that are important for your family. That's how I have raised my kids with nanny's for over 18yrs. They come and go and that's life, it doesn't necessarily mean the employer is bad. I got it all wrong coz nannies will go if they want to go. When you hire a nanny, it's a job you've given them, they are not meant to stay till your kids grow up. You need to be more involved with your children to avoid saying changing nannies will interfere with your kids.

That was interesting, atlst I have had only three..1. Entertainer- my very first one was the life of the party kwa apartments, she would be outside 80% of the time akichapa story mtoto amezubaa tu yeye anapiga story. Bt she loved my baby so much and her work was good. 2. Absent- always had things to do na anataka ruhusa, the excuses were many. Gave her 3 weeks off when was not around akarudi akasema she still has something's to do anaomba ruhusa. I was done. Bt also she was very clean. The house was sparkling. 3. Child labour pia😂..not so young though, 21. Perfect with the kids aged 3 and 1.5 she plays with them so much can match the energy but kazi we are still working on improving. Bt love her much coz of how they have bonded with the kids.

Get a washing machine and dishwasher if you can to relieve her some duties. Being good with kids is everything for me

Madam amepata ball akaanza kutumalizia tea leaves akijaribu kuflash. Akiambiwa fanya test tujue anasema sikuwa mgonjwa, nimechoka na kazi tu 😂😂😂. Now she is out there telling people that we used to lock her in the house all day. People used to ask us whether house work is done juu huyu alikuwa anaacha mtoto car wash anaenda kwa boyfriend wake wa laundry 😂😂😂. She was epic for our 2.5 year old son, his development was through the roof when it came to talking, conversating, interacting with other people, his confidence, his knowledge orlf random things and the alphabet and counting in English and Kiswahili...
She let another househelp lie to her about how she should be treated like a queen in the house, the same househelp has been with her employer for over 5years bila mashida earning less than her. Isokay, she was a blessing before she became who she became.
Yaani mtu hali red meat hadi budget ya kuku na fish imebidi we adjust ndo asikose nguvu ya kubeba mtoto kwa stairs hehehe. Thankfully we are only on number 2.

me too, since I got my twins who are turning two years next month I have had 24. Prior to getting twins I had only two who took care of my first born, the first one alikaa three weeks,the second one was the best she stayed with us for 2yrs until I until I released her when I lost my job.One year later I got another job and got pregnant with the twins.

My current help is in that customer care category. Everything you have explained is exactly what she does. She is older & she is definitely getting on our nerves with that behavior. I already gave her the final warning. No more chances. She will be out faster than she came in.
If you keep giving warnings and nothing is changing, that also shows how she views you in terms of respect.
Ooh and making smark comments about my parenting ati yeye ameliea I decided to struggle aki I would rather not work until my baby is daycare ready. Mind you the oldest goes to daycare Monday to Friday from 8 to 3 and I was home or my partner most days when he was not in school

I totally relate especially on the customer care one.
I had a nanny who was always on phone and to make matters worse she was very loud. From 6am to when she goes to bed she would have received a million calls and the things she talks about are total nonsense.
I had to let her go after many warnings that bore no change.
One can only be patient for so long. Especially when the quality of work is compromised due to being on calls for too long.

I have an opinion not directed to you but i think the industry of 'house girls in Kenya' needs to change.
One i feel like they are not paid that much yet the work they do is literally running a home.
Two i know we , Kenyans are perhaps not at a level where we hire professional help such that both parties get value.
That's why its easy for a house worker to easily get a boyfriend or go back home because they dont have soo much too loose. Some of the ettique we require from them its something they need to be trained on such as how to deal with an employer it looks obvious but we also had to go to school for 4 years before getting a job.
All this translates into now our girls going to Saudi Arabia to get better pay and end up being mistreated.
So this is not an issue about you guys its just something that i think about.
To have professional help for two kids and cook and clean and perhaps get 8K or something within that range from someone who is young with dreams and ambitions without proper training is alot to ask
Yes Maryann. In addition, I think it also boils down to someone's personal values. I have seen nannies who did their best despite the fact their pay wasn't the best. But because of having that kind of heart and attitude, their employers kept boosting their pay upwards.
I disagree to some level...first the "8" doesn't include the fact that you need to host them and provide for most of their basic needs. Additionally most of the people hiring house helps don't necessarily earn that much. It's still a juggle for most to pay that househelp. If you are earning very well...it's just fair to add the househelp as well regardless of how the industry looks. It's just a cycle of people trying to earn a living and we all need to be faithful with the little as we wait for God to bless us with more.

My baby is 3 months now and have had 4 nannies so far. My first nanny left me when i was discharged from hosi. Azin nilitoka hosi nikapata no one in the house. Let me tell you maina, stress ilianzia hapo sikupata maziwa for 2 weeks. She had left a note saying her child had been hit by a car that's why she had to go.

I stayed with 6 nannies for my daughter for 2 years ..the last one kila nikitokwa kwenda job she used to put my baby in the bed for the whole day and she goes to her boyfriend just a neighbor...imagine everyday my daughter could stay the whole day in bed and she used to shout at her not to cry...so one day i was briefed by one of my neighbors about it ..i had pretend the following day ive gone to work and a returned back before lunch..woiyee i met my baby inside the blanket eyes open..when she saw me she came to me crying mommy mommy..had to cry..that was the end for nanny's

So am at work its already 2:00pm the bus will be dropping off my son from school soon..few minutes later i receive a call from the bus driver ." Hello mum am already at the gate and the lady who picks up your son is nowhere "so i try calling my nanny to find out why she' has not picked up the baby .the call aint going through i try caling the bureau then they tells me they've not heard from her,mimi uyo hadi kwa gate to pick up my son mimi uyo hadi kwa nyumba only to find my house locked amd the nanny's clothes missing she's gone and she had not toldme she was leaving neither at night or in the morning then am like damn who does that i take a day off from work to take time to look for another nanny ...wah hawa wasichana
This is extremely unprofessional and it's these kinds of nannies that spoil the name of the other ones out there who are actually trying to do a good job. Pole sana for your predicament.

Us personally we spend like two weeks training our house helpers, telling them what we expect,how to cook our food the way we want it,how to clean how we do,,etc etc..
Because not everyone from their back grounds know how to cook what we eat or have ever eaten what we eat....
Maybe for example,
I have had like maids who had never had chicken in their home ever, or chapats..so how can I expect that person to cook such...
So i think training is necessary..
Training indeed is necessary. The nanny also must have the heart and willingness to learn. Unfortunately, some assume that they already know and feel like by you suggesting to train them, you don't trust them.
But the one for chapatis lied. Just say hujui. Cooking was not the main issue, lying for me naaah.
