Simply Red is the name of the band. The singer's name is Mick Hucknall.
There is no band just session musicians
@@TarmaccyclocrossI think you miss the point - simply red is not one person. And even though none of the original members were left besides Mick it’s still the name of a band.
Beautiful, one of the best voices out there
That was a golden age for soul music.
The 60s was
Your reaction when you recognized the song & the nostalgia you have for the music of your grandparent’s day brought tears to my eyes. I’m probably about 30 years older than you & the same thing happens to me when I hear music from my parent’s era. So good! 😊
I was 4 and was on a flight back from Switzerland when I was sitting in front of Mick and Simply Red. Beautiful voice
Australia, Sydney, Opera House concert fantastic performance great memories. Peace out.
Oh my god he sounds even better now than when he was young! Holy crap!
Depends on how young. If you mean better than at the beginning of his career then you'd be right, though that shouldn't be surprising. From around the early 90's when Stars was releassed he's been relatively consistant and he certainly doesn't sound worse, but not better either.
When music was real !
Definitely one of the best covers of this old classic song, you should watch the video, he’s blue eyed soul with Red hair
I have seen simply red live twice, they are fantastic
Me too, his voice sounds just as good live as in their records. Brilliant concerts.
His voice is absolutely incredible live. Just top tier.
The music I love so much. This is pure talent. Simply Red’s version is as good as Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. Just great music…..the kind of music I wish we had now. Thanks Tasha for the great reaction. I could see you really enjoyed it. 👏👏🇨🇦
Stars. For Your Babies. Fairground. 3 great Simply Red songs.
Simply Red has put out a lot of great music
They sure did!
Mick is such a talent
His style was the coolest in the 80s!
this was all over the airwaves back in the day
Tasha, what a lovely reaction to an absolute classic cover by Mick Hucknall & Simply Red. Great that he's still 'got it'!! 🙋♂ ❤
''you make me feel brand new'' simply red!
One of my favorite songs! Being hearing it since I was young. Seventy now.
Mick is from manchester and he is a big united supporter hence "simply red " ( utd play in red shirts)
Wow ,the audience was great! , there were a bunch of strong voices out there.
Wow!! One of my favorite Motown tunes!! Wonderful cover!!! Serious goosebumps!!
Although it's not a Motown tune. It's a Philli classic.
@@keithwarrington2430 okay
Blue eyed soul!! ❤
So many years had done nothing to diminish such beautiful vocals....even after all this time i'm floored!
I love Mick Huchnall here, he’s still got it. But I can’t forget the original video back in the day. You can find it. :D
That is Mick he is Simply Red. He is still very good!! Holding back the years is his best song!! He wrote "Holding back the years".
They is a great band … not just Mick Hucknall … he’s their singer … and he’s a great singer … but Simply Red is a band!
He sang it to your soul when he was younger in the 90s.
Oh, sing it! Love Simply Red! Loved this song when it was released.
Lead singer Mick Hucknall's nickname is RED . So many songs too choose from but if i had to pick one it would be STARS .
Original done by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, featuring Teddy Pendergrass (Teddy Bear). My favorite group growing up in the 70's.
I am really enjoying young people finding and 'reacting' to these old songs. I guess I am getting old.
Loved the original, loved this version. Great song, great voices.
Aren't you glad I reminded you about this, I knew you'd enjoy it That's why I didn't want you to miss it
Robert 😃
Awesome song
While I enjoy this version of this song, the original by Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes is the best. Teddy Pendergrass' vocals are something.
I truly enjoyed Him Especially when He and Chaka did there number with Quincy Jones awesome Roger 😊
This was a good cover version - The original -Harold Melvin, and the Blue Notes is still the best though! The original version is amazing
Rarely and I mean rarely do I ever like a remake better than the original but this song is the exception, Mich's voice is amazing. Although Teddy pendergrass is version was my favorite until this one came out LOL
My mom new the version by the original singers Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes but I found this group Simply Red singing it a few years ago
I had the chance to see them twice in Würzburg Germany. He sang even better than on the record. It was realy good.
love simply red!
I was lucky enough to be at this concert, absolutely fantastic and ticked off my bucket list for sure!
Teddy Pendergrass put true soul into this song in 1972 as a member of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. I was in high and this was the song to slow dance to. Along with Al Wilson singing SHOW AND TELL. Enjoy
jesus he can still sing. He sounds great.
"A new flame" is my favourite song from them, the title track to their best album IMO.
I saw Mick and Simply Red at Lancashire Cricket Ground way back in the day on the ‘Stars’ tour. It was a great gig.
Great song..so much nostalgia for sure.. Tasha I highly recommend their performance at Simply Red - Stars (Symphonica In Rosso-Netherlands) when the people sing along....
1992 live Holding back the years is the best.
Good reaction!
Simply Red were classed as a jazz band but, you couldn't get any more soul than they were. Seen them live. Mick Hucknall's voice was even better live. ❤
I’ve seen them live a couple of times and that’s definately Mick Hucknall’s voice … a great singer and an excellent band.
Mick is such an amazing talent. Great band and song too. Had to edit to add... you come across as such a sweet down home girl. Never change!!!
You and I have something in common, I grew up on it too... back in the 70's lol, along with your grandparents. hahaha Love Simply Red.
He still has great pipes!
Here is a Scottish band you should listen to called WET WET WET and their biggest hit called ( Love is all Around ) it was 15 weeks at number 1 in the UK charts
Can`t agree with that at all, the original version by the Troggs is so much better.
try their other song called Angel Eyes@@telstar4772
Beautiful song . I grew up hearing this too . I'm prob your mom's generation. All the best music is from the past.. it gets truer ever year I live
Great song from my youth! Simply Red didn't get as much respect as they deserved! Have you done Michael Nesmith of The Monkees fame? "Cruisin, Sunset Sam" would be a good one to react to!
Also check out RIO
😮 *The Monkees*
(_not_ the monkeys!!😮😢)
Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes with Teddy Pendergrass on leads
My 15 year old aunty used me as an excuse to meet her friends and pushed me in my pram the 1.5 miles to meet her friends outside the cavern club to hear the Beatles before they where famous so I have heard the Beatles play when I started clubbing it was Liverpool soul and jazz funk clubs and even Wigan pier. Saw my favourite earth wind and fire in 70s and 25 years later, stevie wonder, diane Ross. Bob Marley. I’ve been to concerts in Stately homes to listen to hans water music Beethoven. [ I married a manc, so to foreigners check football rivalry] and took my wife who loves simply red for his final tour [it turned not to be ] his last night was in Manchester and he mention so many times how he had played in Liverpool but hated scousers and was glad to be back home. I felt I was the only scouser and it hurts me to say but what a fantastic voice and what a concert although afterward my wife thinks Beyoncé was her favourite. Me I’m looking forward to going to the cinema to watch bob marley. Music feeds the soul if one exists.
The Blue Notes
This is really nice🔥 I love Patti LaBell's version, performed live😍
I'm going to see him in concert 1st October 2025
Love Mick’s voice, for your next reaction from Simply Red you should try For Your Babies, it’s another great one 👍
You've got to check out their cover of the old Ray Charles classic, 'Drown in my own tears'! (1992)
He really pulls out all the stops, vocally.
It's a joy to listen to someone at the peak of his powers!! 😍
You know, the RED that bad dog. How you can bring it on home? Hey, burn your HO. Where am I right question mark simply right how do you say absolutely wonderful absolutely
The original is done by “Harold Melvin and the Blue-notes” with lead singer Teddy Pendergrass! Please, listen to it!
Mancunian magic right there
Check out Heaven by Simply Red. Great song!
Tassa you're so cute and so for real. Anyone having you as a friend are a Lucky one.
I like the softer side of you Tasha.
Referring to this song. 👍
Grande canzone, grande voce, grande MICK ❤❤❤
love it
great job, its not the original, but its good
Try a track called "Turn It Up" also "It's Only Love" from the album A New Flame, think you may like them.
Where is your hubby? You good still, miss the both of you.
Teddy Pendergrass/Harold Melvin Motown
you need to watch the origional music video
If you haven't, listen to the original by Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes.
I didn't know that it was him singing either...
Listen to Simply Red's first album 😀
You may not believe this but vocalists used to have real talent, they didn't need to rely on auto-tuners.
😂😂😂
This version doesn't come close to the original by Teddy Pendergrass with Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes. It's the difference between a kernel of corn and a 5 course meal from a 5 star restaurant.
I agree with you 100% but you got it backwards it's the other way around😁 I will agree this performance is not near as good as the original recording by simply red
@@RC-fi8zw To bad Teddy Pendergrass was twice the singer this guy is. It's to bad Simply Red didn't do the original.
I like the original version by the Blue Notes as well but Simply Reds early version was a really good cover and did the tune justice!
@@smedleybutler1969 A good cover yes. IMO it's hard to do a bad cover of this song. The truth remains that Teddy Pendergrass' voice was a rare one, and he gives a much more passionate take in the original. Whereas Hucknall's voice is not, and his performance hasn't near the passion. There is Teddy's version and then there is everyone else.
@@helgar791well this guys voice is pretty rare too...
Notice he isn't swallowing the mike like they do now-a-days.
@Tasha Jackson you should have definitely done the official video instead. So much better
Simply Red, so named because they are massive Manchester United fans.. (UK) Seen em live, yes its his voice! LOL.. Look at UB40 great voice & the name is the form number for being unemployed.
Dam listen to Mick. dude can lay it down.
Only Teddy ever sang it better
Wish he would have sung at least one Chorus......
Too bad he didn't sing more of it instead the old audience sing a long bit
He has aged quite a bit
Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes version was better in my opinion...and the first!
simly red is god but i think your god 2
This is a cover
The original by Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes is much better.
Why not the original. He's over the hill in this version.
Hes put so much weight on
