  • What should your hands do when you run? We hear this a lot from runners. Our upper body and hands are actually important and can dictate a lot of what our lower body does when doing exercises like running.
When we run, it's important to remember to keep our arms going forward and backward along our body. We often see runners that bring their arms cross body while they run, and we do not want this, especially as we increase speed.
A good drill to help with this to sit on the ground with your feet in front of you and practice that 'chin to pocket' with your hands. The ground will be a good feedback to let you know if you've gone too far with your hands.
Another important tip is to keep your hands relaxed. We don't want clenched fists while you run but you also don't want your hands to flop all over so it's great to take your thumb and index finger and bring them slightly together while you run.
As always, if you have any questions, we are here to help you. Try these drills to improve your running game.
