In this video, Joshua dives into the world of 1990s skate punk, showing you the skills and techniques you need to bring the sound of 1990s skate punk to life, and even write your own skate punk riffs.
Skate punk was the lovechild of the blossoming California skateboarding scene and the late 1980s hardcore punk scene. Bands like Bad Religion, Descendents, NOFX, and Pennywise started gaining popularity, using a more melodic sound and incorporating elements of pop punk into their music.
Joshua Ray Gooch is a prodigious LA-based rock guitarist. In addition to years on the road playing with Shania Twain and working in the studio with legendary producers as a studio musician, Joshua is a seasoned educator who has taught for Hal Leonard and written a monthly column for Premier Guitar magazine.

Yes 411! I had boxes of them. Not only that, but all skate videos got me into so many different types of music, hip hop, classic rock, folk, punk, etc..

I believe Epitaph Records had a major role in the development of our music and bringing this style to the masses. Great video 🤘🏻

Ngl, I must have learned more in 13 minutes than in the past 13 years. I wish somebody would break it down to me like this a long time ago. Thanks!

I thought that it's the speed of it which will be hard for me (never played this genre before) but at the end that was the easy part.
The octaves part was quite difficult for me to mute instead of accidentally make them into power chords all the time.

Nothing beats well written, melodic punk. Lagwagon is my favorite band of all time...and punk isn't even my favorite genre. But their performance and songwriting are hard to beat.
