  • Cal Rodgers was an early aviation pioneer and in 1911 became the first person to complete a transcontiental flight across the United States. In addition to being the first mayor of Pittsburgh, Ebenezer Denny was the Revolutionary War soldier that documented Cornwallis' surrender at Yorktown. Stephen Foster is known as the father of American music, and his songs are still popular more than 150 years after his death. What do all of these people have in common? Their stories, along with those of over 133,000 others, rest in the Allegheny Cemetery. This hidden gem of history and nature lies right in the heart of some of Pittsburgh's busiest neighborhoods, but it's fascinating tales often go overlooked. Ryan O'Shea wanted to change that, but this video only scratches the surface. You'll have to take a stroll through this beautiful historic cemetery and check out the Allegheny Cemetery Historical Association for yourself to learn more!
