Guide to Thai Pink Milk (for the casual BL fan)

- Hey Guys! In this video I talk about the the BL world's iconic Thai Pink Milk (Nom Yen). Iconic not just for its appearance in SOTUS but also 2Moons. I talk about how it's made, whether Thai people really drink it or not and then make some myself. There's also a sneaky cameo from the actors of KinnPorsche the series.
If there's any other interesting looking drinks or snack you'd like me to make a video about, please leave a comment down below. Hope you enjoy the video :)

Hey Guys! I made a mistake in the video.
The shaved iced dessert is spelt 'นำ้แข็งไส' not 'นำ้แข้งใส'. It's pronounced the same but the spelling is a little bit different. ขอบคุณมากทุกคนที่ช่วยบอกผมในคอมเม้นท์นะครับ เดี๋ยวคราวหน้าจะเช็คการสะกดดีๆ
คุณสวยมาก ❤️
Nice video. I really thought it was strawberry milk. I searched for sala syrup in Amazon, but currently unavailable. Will surely try this drink once I get it. Thanx for the video.
Best wishes for you and your team. Kinnporsche is really 👍. Your acting also 👌. Hoping to see more videos from you.
Gracias,,saludos desde 🇲🇽
yes, ไส means shaved
Thank you for sharing 😊
Really appreciate 🤩
Sotus and pink milk ♥️😅🍹
Pink milk 😂! I feel like it's such an "old" Thai BL inside joke, glad to see it's still not forgotten ♥
Right? It's been around for AGES now, it's kind of hilarious that it's become such a BL standard.
I feel slightly honored, slightly confused to realize that I'm now a senior BL fan.
Can someone please explain it to me?
@@Serenity.bl1 In SOTUS the main character, Arthit, is like a manly man, who's all mean and harsh and cold and stuff but his favourite drink that he always orders is the cute Pink Milk! And people poke fun at him for it and he's embarrassed by it because it's such a contrasting thing to him - a pink, sweet drink vs a 'dark', bitter man 😊 It became a inside joke because of just how much pink milk he would drink and how embarrassing it was for him when someone caught him drinking it. And also, just like Perth said in the video, it's just a pretty popular drink in Thailand ♥
I hope this made sense 😅
"The granddaddy of BL" just killed evry cell that restrained me from laughing. I got flashbacks of half the BL industry using it as show to play on the TV in absolutely random moments
yeah when he said that I literally laughed till I cried xD
When he said granddaddy of bl idk but I just felt kinda like old? Cuz I've been a bl fan since that time of sotus😭😭
i was tearing when he said that and show the clip of cutie arthit hiding it from kongpop lmao
"I ask my friends at work" LITERAL BTS OF KINNPORSCHE!!! AAaAaaAa
It's my first time coming across Perth's channel and was totally not expecting him to be Australian lol When he said 'strong' like my hometown folks in the southern United States, I had to replay it like 5 times😂😂😂
I had been curious about the pink milk thing. I thought it would taste like stawberry milk, but flower bubble gum? lol I doubt it's something I would like, but I don't really drink milk unless it's in cereal or hot chocolate and you just use unflavored milk for that lol
I also thought it would taste like strawberry milk
Before I found out that he is a part Australian, I actually found his accent a bit weird. 🤣🤣 He's got a British accent with some traces of Australian accent. His Australian accent is not that strong.
the sala/salak fruit tastes quite bland (sweet and little bit of sour with unique fragrant), but some varieties are sweeter while others are sourer.
i also don't know how it tastes like pink milk, but I grew up eating that salak fruit. I'm from different country in south east asia
It tastes kinda like a mix of raspberry and Strawberry. And I do agree with the bubblegum flavor lol
Perth please continue the "for the casual BL fan" series it's amazing 💜 you sure know your audience 😂
Also when can we expect Basic Thai #6? 🥺
Yeah basic Thai too
I love this series from him.
+1
You know what I like about all of this? I know many of us here may have ended up here because of a BL or drama (not all, but some of us). However we got here, we are learning a little bit of a different culture through language and food because of our curiosity, and I think that is absolutely lovely. We can learn to appreciate said culture and the people more, and thats just wonderful
I watched SOTUS on a friend's recommandation, my first encounter with Thai language and culture. I'm now watching Thai series every night, I'm listening to my Thai Assimil CD everyday and well, learning thai 😊. It's such a warm language, I feel good when I hear it. I definitely don't get the same vibes from Corean from instance.
So, thank you SOTUS and everyone else out there who introduced me and continue to entertain me with Thai language and culture, it's my pleasure 🤗
There’s a similar drink in Singapore which we call “Bandung” - a combination of diluted rose cordial syrup and condensed milk/evaporated milk, my favourite drink 😋
I also thought it was sirap bandung 😂
@@qee787 it was😂
I had Bandung in Singapore and when I watched Sotus and found out about the pink milk, I thought they are the same drink!
SIRAP BANDUNG YESSS
They have it in Malaysia too
So I ran out to my local Asian market and found the Sala syrup! It's a really small store so I wasn't sure I'd find it! 😅 Back home and I made pink milk, minus the condensed cuz I was so excited to find the syrup I forgot lol, but, I like it!! So yummy 😋 thank you Perth for making this fun video!
Wow, you could find the Sala syrup in your neighborhood? That's cool! I normally use this syrup to make a lemon-soda drink (I can't drink milk). It's a popular drink here. It taste pretty good too. 😋
You found the syrup?!? I can’t find it anywhere 😭 I really wanna try this drink. I don’t even think I have an Asian market near where I live :(
@@Lauren-wl6jc I'm not sure where you're located, but it's on Amazon, however, it runs about $20 usd on there...
im an asian just few thousand km from thailand but I doubt I can find that syrup here,,,, even if its available here I'm pretty sure it just available on biggest city grocery store, while I just a random villager
It also tastes really good if u put in sprite or 7up, it’s very refreshing especially for summer
Perth, you've really created a strong niche for yourself. You are like the Western Bl fans superstar. Bringing us deep dives in the stuff we see on screen that confuses us, very palatable language lessons, the teasing possibility of seeing our fav actors, cooking, gaming. And of course your own sweet, mellow vibes. This was a great video. I bet you get LOTS of views.
The blue, green drinks and you !!!
The western bl fans superstar 🤣🤣🤣love the way you put it😍😍😍😍
Seriously, the first BL I saw him in didn't leave much of an impression on me, so I sort of checked him into the back of my mind, despite him appearing in a number of other shows I've seen since. Something about this video really endeared him to me. I'm enjoying seeing his actual personality outside of characters he's played. He seems like a really awesome person, and it's nice to have a fellow English-speaking person with such a deep connection to the BL we love.
@@queen_of_the_moths true,he is the only true bl star that's speaks that much English, plus he is really amazing in cutie pie and kinnporshe
Naur it’s troo it’s troo
I never realised but I've been drinking pink milk my entire life lol. Since I am not from Thailand I'm from bahrain, we call the "Sala syrup" red/green/yellow juice for some reason since it also comes in green and yellow color. We either put it in milk or water and add ice. It definitely tastes really sweet and it's really tasty too
i never thought i'd find someone from Bahrain in a BL referenced comment section, hey there 😭
@@vampc_ap omg no way 😭 finally someone from Bahrain I felt so left out lmao
@@Zeus_9137 girl I feel you, also I'm actually NRI but same difference 😭
Wanna be friends ? :)
@@vampc_ap suree why not, but I'm a boy though if you're fine with it.
@@Zeus_9137I'm on another account here
ofcourse, I wouldn't mind at all, just check my about me for my socials :)

H E SAID MALK, the flashbacks i had.......
This is literally on my bucket list of things to try in Thailand 😂😂. Sotus is one of the first few BLs I watched after discovering it, so it definitely has a special place in my heart. Also a huge fan of KristSingto, literally one of my all time favorite ships ❤️❤️. This is literally one of the oldest Thai BL inside jokes, and I would literally compare it a Star Wars fan with “I am your father.” I really do hope to try it one day ❤️❤️
Are you able to buy a bottle online/Asian Grocery?
I wanna try it too,or maybe we can do this ourselves and see if it will taste good because I'm not too sure if someday I'll ever have an opportunity to visit Thailand
Got an opportunity to go to Hatyai in Feb 2020, just before the pandemic hit. Got a cup of Nom Yen at one of the many 7E's. Let's just say, I'm back with more cups after that🤣
@@maeannengo4908 you can! I live in San Francisco and I found it oftentimes at Asian (Thai) market. Goodluck!
"On this channel we only ask the most important questions" YES YOU DO GOOD SIR 😂😂😂 this is the best
I am in the Philippines and I absolutely love Pink Milk. We do have stores here selling Thai drinks. Ever since I've watched 2 Moons and Sotus, I became curious about it and when I tried, it instantly became my favorite.
The oh-so famous "Mango sticky rice" or the other oh-so famous "Tom Yum Soup". Thx for bringing us closer to the Thai cuisine 🤩🤩
I'm so glad people have not forgotten the remarkable Sotus and its pink milk♥️♥️
Sotus is one of my go-to series when I just want to relax. Sotus season 1 that is.
@@hansquintos701 I can totally relate.
*#Sotus* was my first ever BL series and will always close to my heart ❤️🤗
Arthit×Kongpob.
In the Bl drama Until we meet again, they made alot of Thai sweets. They also talked about Thai sweets in general. It could be pretty intresting to know more about it. Btw love your videos. I'm really enjoying them. And thanks for entering the BL world cause now we know you excist. LY and i'll always support you!!! Btw i'm soo happy that you r a part of cutie pie the series. It is good to see you!
Lukhcup i remember most🥰
I love this 'for the casual BL fans' series 🤣 you need to do more!!!
Perth, you're literally my comfort person. Whenever I don't feel good, like currently, I go to watch your channel or content that has you in it and it helps me smile and feel a little better. Thank you❤
i feel old. when you said Sotus is the grand daddy of BL 😅😂
before I was just happy to read Japanes BL manga but after I watched Sotus, I became hooked with the succeeding Thai BLs.❤
I kinda questioning, if sotus is the grand daddy of bl, what about 'love sick'? Yeah not all people know love sick but they are legend
@DaikiChuei ahah, same story here 😅. Learned Japanese from anime and manga for 3 years before I accidentally fell on SOTUS. Now I'm learning Thai, and esp fan of GMMTV productions (thank godness, there's so much material to work from 🤣🤣)
@@dumplingyoo7014 oh yeah! I just discovered Love Sick on Netflix. Maybe because Sotus was the first one to be discovered internationally? idk
but I love both ❤️
@@daikichuei maybe bcs lovesick air when internet and streaming services not this big. Thats why old bl, like love sick, love's coming, hormones and other bl series wasn't really popular. But they are the history that we can't ignore
Was My favorite as well we all lead the same path 🙏
Actually, น้ำแข็งไส spell like this. ไส means to push horizotally, like กบไสไม้. Maybe in the old day they pushed an ice back and forth into small pieces, so that's why it called น้ำแข็งไส. By the way, your video is very infomative. I really like that you explain about Thai culture. Keep on going!!

In Malaysia there's a drink called "Bandung", it's pretty much pink milk but Malaysian. The taste is really similar and it's my favourite drink in Malaysia
(Ps. There's a milk-free version of "Bandung" and it's called "sirap")
EH MAKSUDNYA SIRAP BANDUNG TU SEBENARNYA PINK MILK KO WOI-
tapi bandung kan guna rose syrup tapi pink milk guna sala syrup so tk sama la
I literally never realized that pink milk is literally Sharbat made with rooh afza which is sala syrup but in India. Pink milk or sharbat is really very common in India. Damn and I was always like "I wanna try that bl goodie" when it was literally what my mom made everyday 💀
Enlightenment 😂😂😂😂🎉
Omg yeah in my head i was like does this taste like jam e shirin/ rooh afza. I'm pakistani btw
"it tastes like bubblegum and a... flower?" my mind went to hibiscus flower with that line and I blame the pink too 😂 but I have to agree my brain also imagined a strawberry flavored drink when I saw this the first time years ago in Sotus. Really love your videos, you never fail to cheer me up with your editing and happy vibes 😌💗
Lol me too
I’m loving these guides for the bl fans, keep them coming Perth. Love you 😘 😊😘
I wanted to focus on the video since I am intrigued about the pink milk but THAT CUTE ROWLET AT THE BACK IS STEALING THE SPOTLIGHT!!! SO CUTE 🥺!!!
Pink milk is so iconic~ casually running to buy all the ingredients. If you do any more, I'd love to see another iconic one, blue Hawaii or the blue drink!!
I love seeing Perth~
How he talks, how he expresses himself, how he smiles...
I'm crazy for him, I'm in love 😂😅❤️

why are you doing this to us ... bringing back the pink milk is everything
The editing on this video is so good! Thank you for the English subtitles
Oh Perth, I'm so glad you're on CZcams, I seriously love your content and your dedication
It would be great if you did for the "casual BL fan" 😉 a guide video on how to properly say the "Raikantopeni" phrase. I mean- we all know it, hear it all the time and maybe can say semi-correctly the first few words, but then it gets kinda mumbly. 😅😅
That would be so funny 😂
Hahahahahaha
Okay, why do you have to call us all out like that though? :D
Omg that would be perfect lol
Gosh... I can hear it in my head🤣
Perth has such a beautiful personality and smile that he absolutely fills the screen with sunshine !
Perth's edit in every vlog he uploads really makes me happy😭😭😭 love u Perth!!!!!
“What the hell does it taste like?” Was exactly why I clicked on this video! Perth, you truly are a mind reader! Also, my anxiety levels were on high alert when I saw you didn’t put the lid on the syrup after saying how bad it would stain if you dropped it! 🤣🤣🤣
I hope you'll do more videos like this. You are uniquely positioned to bring Thai cultural aspects closer to us english speaking westerners. Maybe you could tackle traditional Thai desserts n a future video, the kinds we see in Until We Meet Again and La Cuisine.
Não conhecia o Perth fora das séries, tô amando. Muito carismático! 🥰
Jajajajaj omg, quién diría que necesitaba un video sobre Pink milk.
Me encanta como Perth hace un lección de cualquier cosa que salga en los bl 😋
i dunno why but i always assumed pink milk was just a thai version of strawberry milk, lol. i'd love to try the authentic kind some day, i love me a good overly sweet drink.
wish i could get my hands on some of that syrup but unfortunately it tends to be hard to get even any slightly 'exotic' ingredient here in the deep south of the united states. i have to drive 45 minutes to get to the nearest tiny little asian grocery store. i found some canned lychee the other day at walmart and i was over the moon, that's how hard asian ingredients are to find here, lmao.
Can you order it on Amazon?
Facts 😭😭 I need to drive at least 10-20 minutes(doesn't seem fat but the fact you need to drive that far for a simple ingredient is sad) just to see if what I'm looking for is even there
I ordered it from Amazon.
I thought it was either strawberry or rose milk, considering they are (a) pink, making it a subliminal romantic gesture and (b) known aphrodisiac, making it 😏😏 Especially since the person usually drinking it ends up being the bottom, and the person who buys it is the top.
I've seen several Americans refer to pink milk as "strawberry milk" and I just went "...um, no it isn't" 😂
im absolutely loving the "for the casual BL fan series"!!!! (tbh at this point I'm too deep into the world of BL) 😭💜
I was in Thailand and got- what I thought was- just a fruit juice, but it ended up being the sweetest drink I had ever experienced. It was like if someone had just put the syrup mix for a juice but not added any water, and it was bright bright green. I was very confused and also unfortunately not able to drink it, but I get what you mean by extreme flavors!
Also, the bread in Thailand is sweeter than I'm used to. All that being said, I really miss the food 🥲
what a very wholesome video. There's language/spelling portion, data collection and food making and tasting. You're so AMAZING P'Perth!~ ❤️❤️❤️
Nothing better than having Perth guide you over basic Bl stuff 😍. I love this kind of content, its super funny and entertaining. Also I would like to know how does the o-aew tastes like (the dessert from I told sunset about you🌺)
I am Thai but I really enjoy this BL guide contents, keep going kaa P'Perth ❤
Thank you 🙏
Both series For The Casual BL Fan and Basic Thai are so helpful for the western fans of the genre. Thank u so much for bringing this to us with your precious charisma. Love from Chile
I'm obsessed with Perth's videos 😊😊😊😊😊 It's always fun to watch, so I end up rewatching his other videos 😅😅😅😅 Can't wait for more content
According to my chemistry teacher mum , the "pungent chemical smell" of the sala syrup is probably due a class of chemicals called "esters". She used to make them while teaching practical labs. A subset of them are basically artificial imitations of the smells and flavours of various fruits 🍌🍓🍍🍒.
I admit I know Pink Milk from Sotus Series and was really curious at the time, but after trying it on BKK immediately then turns out I don't like the drink that Arthit likes lol.. taste is very sweet! (watching sotus 2016 and i try for the first time 2018 😊)
SOTUS S was also really good, you see so much growth in both of them but especially Arthit
Weather it tastes good or not, I'm pretty sure that pink milk will be the first drink we, old dyas BL fans, want to try the first moment we arrive in thailand xD
I think, just like Perth says, some store make it a bit too sweet. Since Thailand got hot weather, the ice will melt faster. So they make it a bit more sweeter, so when the ice melts, it doesn't taste so rundown
future food videos for the casual BL fan: i'd love to know more about what kind of things you can possibly get in soup/noodles, like how we see closeness by knowing how many dumplings or eggs someone wants, and the general culture around feeding each other, putting things on each others plates, peeling shrimp, etc.
me and my friend watched this together and cracked up throughout the whole thing xD love you so much, Perth, keep em comin LOL
my family and i just got back from thailand last week and we’ve been desperately craving some pink milk since, so this video was perfectly timed!! we bought the same syrup just so we could recreate them at home because the drinks were so refreshing in the 40 degree heat of thailand
honestly i would love to see any of the foods from "until we meet again" the foods that pharm makes (especially those little star ones i cant remember what theyre called) look really cool!
this is such an entertaining channel! I can listen to perth talk about milk all day
I was having a bad night until I saw your video come up on my recommend, you really cheered me up thank you
The way perth thought he wouldn't like the drink but ended up drinking most of it please he's so cute😭💓
he just kept right on chugging, didn't he? 😀
my gods this made me laugh from beginning to end! the edits and even the addition in the subtitles (which thank you for having english captions in almost all your videos, i genuinely appreciate it) it was just so so funny! while also staying informative about the dessert/drink itself! keep up the amazing work!!

Thank you for all your informative videos! I really enjoy them -- and watching you in Cutie Pie and KinnPorsche❣
omg the memories - time to go rewatch sotus
also, we have something similar called rooh afza (the desi version of pink milk 😂) - it'd be interesting to see the difference in tastes between the two!
Yeahh and it can be made with milk and water both lol
But water one is not so good and when he said 🌸 test it's just click rooh afza
Dang it, now I actually want to try pink milk...
Loved the editing on this video, lol. And the whole "for the casual BL fan" series; the video on names and honorific made it that much easier for me to get friends to watch series with me.
More food videos in general would also be awesome! Even just snack reviews or the like, since exchanging snacks is such a big thing in so many BL shows.
I love how you are putting out topics that we bl fans are interested in! More videos like this please 🙏
I couldn't stop laughing during the Sotus scene. I remember that Arthit liked the pink milk but was embarrassed to be seen drinking it. 🤣 Real men drink pink drinks, ok? 🤣
This was such a great video!! My friends and husband watched this together, and it was informative yet funny! :D Can't wait to see more of same type of content!
Hi Perth ! Thank you so much for this vid, I can't tell you how much I appreciate you putting yourself in our Thai BL fans' shoes and bringing us exactly the information we need to feed our love for this world 😉😉❤️❤️
Today neither KinnPorsche nor Cutie Pie are releasing due to Songkran Festival, so maybe you could do a vid to explain what this festival is about and what people do on this day? Thank you so much, take care of yourself and please keep releasing these great vids ! 😁❤️

I’ve been so curious about the colorful drinks! Thanks for doing this vid, super fun and informative!! Also you’ve been killing it in cutie pie and kinnporsche i’m so happy for you!!!

I love how many resources you used for the video. And thank you as always for the English subs !!!
thank you for always teaching us about thai culture 💗💗 here in malaysia we also have a pink drink similar to pink milk called ‘ sirap bandung’. It’s made with rose syrup, evaporated milk, condensed milk and sometimes soda is added for that extra kick 😋 we also have ABC (ais batu campur - translated to mixed ice) , similar to waan yen which is shaved ice with rose syrup, evaporated milk, and toppings of choice like grass jelly or sweet corn. 🤤

Woah~ can't believe we get to know more about pink milk, and also see KP the series actors whilst we're at it. 😍

I loved this video. In my city in the north of Colombia there is the same drink but without milk. This delicious drink can also be made with tamarind syrup.
Sotus was the first BL that i've watched and the Pink Milk was really iconic for me. Thank u for giving us all this content, I am really liking all your videos!!! Hugs from Brazil 😊
i really like this educating type of videos that is based on something we like and interested in. the way he explains it is very undestandable too. loveee salak too hehe
I love this video series that you're doing! It's really helpful for us fans to better understand the culture. 😁 Yeah, the pink just automatically made my head think that it tastes like strawberry.
Omg cooking perth is back!! :D this brings back nostalgia when i was watching sotus and tried so hard to find thai drink stall in my country to bought this and eventually i could taste it ^^ the one i drank before is not too sweet (luckily) and it's really so aromatic! Idk if other country also have this, but i think the taste of sala syrup kinda similar to cocopandan syrup, in which you only taste sweet but it's so aromatic (and yeah kind of artificial).
P.S: Until We Meet Again introduced some traditional thai snacks/desserts, maybe a review/cooking content would be nice :)
thanks for the info! this whole time i had been thinking it was like a strawberry milk drink. lol. also, the editing on the videos are the best. lol. whoever does it (maybe it's you lol) .... so good!!
