scrape yard wars with the lowest bench test scores. (pick really old tests)
basically object is to get the worst PC possible. bonus points for lowest capacity hard drive, power supply, ram, oldest running OS(including version/release date i.e. windows 3.0 vs 3.1). the hardest part is the comparability issues, and what you can get to work. might cause high tensions. with bought parts not working
for fairness you can't do anything funky with the os to purposefully throttle it. however bios is free game also out side tampering is allowed i.e. turning the computer into a airless cube for heat throttling the PC.
finally wild card you must spend $100 dollars on RGB lights. best looking case lowers the score by 20%. basically ending up with the best looking/worst performance pc possible.

I would really enjoy it if you do a Scrapyard Wars without money, just with some normal products to exchange against computer parts. You would have to barter your way up through different stages from e.g. a pen to a graphics card and compare your acquired parts in the end.

I just went thru all of the previous scrap yard wars and I must say season 3 and 4 are the best. The best performance per dollar format is the winner format imo, just add the creativity factor of season 4 (with better judges) and you have the best possible format for the series.

as for cutting a "window" with a Sawzall, what you do is first drill or puncture to make a hole is whatever it is you want your window in. then use the Sawzall to cut out the shape of whatever you want your window to be.

Hey, I've got an idea for a scrapyard wars theme, which I only really know will work in greater Vancouver (as I live around here). It's basically scrapyard wars, but your only method of transportation is public transit. I'm pretty sure that the bus system here is JUST good enough to be able to do this manageably, but not sure good enough where they have to really plan out their routes to pick parts up. Although a bad thing would be that filming probably wouldn't be allowed on the public buses...

Even if the breaking of rules balances with the bending of rules, Linus gave SEVERAL breaks to Paul's team, giving them a hard drive (even if they were unlucky enough for it to not work), and then giving back *30%* of the score for being late. Overall, Linus and Luke deserved their win
If they were playing by the rules P&K would have -30%.
I could see a SYW addendum episode where LTT's victory is reviewed by a panel of tech CZcamsrs. This is so much more interesting a dispute than the usual internet dispute.

no cause the whole point of scrap yard wars is to show people that they can get a good pc for a good price thus the scrap yard. If there were no rules they could just use their fame to get good prices which doesn't help out the general public who is not famous.

They did cheat even after Luke/Linus gave them back the 30% penalty. Linus was completely right to take the win away from them.
And I don't think there is bitterness, just stating facts.
Linus didn't use his CZcams status to lower prices of his parts. It was only after that it occurred.

With or without the $10 part that they did pay for, (that ended up being broken later,) Paul and Kyle's PC completely shrekt Linus and Luke's. Had that part not broken on them, they wouldn't have had the 30% penalty in the first place, and this would've been a complete beat-down.
Long story short, LTT lost except for PURE LUCK, and there was basically no way for Paul and Kyle to win by the point it was found out that the part was broken.
That guy was clearly lying saying he didn't know that he was Linus. The boss would have never let him sell those parts for that low. The guy was lying out of his ass saying his boss gave him a range for what he can sell those parts at.
Nicholas Woolsey isn't that the risk of scrapyard wars though? Not all of the parts are going to be guaranteed working and that's part of the risk on "good deals."
Kan Biiru you not only can't prove they wouldn't have gotten that deal without their identities being known, the deals they got weren't insane for the parts they got.
so im sure this has been noted already but with the spectrum glasses you can tell how good of a job they do. the only color reflecting off the glasses are blue!

Case toss is awesome! I was working 20 years ago for a tiny company repairing PC for the public administration and we had 200 municipalities as clients. We had a pile of broken desktops and when we got to a pile of 30 we were playing case tossing in the backyard of our factory. It was one of the most fun working experiences I had!

Rather than an "Ego Wars" where it's about the PC specs, it would be interesting to see a flat-out custom case competition between you and other CZcamsrs that demonstrated who was the best at case-modding and aesthetics in a certain theme.

The biggest issue I had with this Scrapyard Wars was how short a timeframe both sides had. I believe the bending of the rules wouldn't have been as severe, and their last second switcharoo of the HDD wouldn't have been an issue had the time frame been even a single day longer.

For the ghost pepper: You already have a tolerance for it. I was eating steak with my home made Carolina reaper sauce every weekend and I kept increasing the amount every time... After months I stopped doing that and when I made that sauce again after like 2 months, I almost died... Now I actually think even the damn Lay's Lime and Chilli is spicy, but before it actually felt sweet... I might just start making my sauce again, as I still have quite a lot of Carolina reaper mash and powder...
Also, about the "challenge pack", its a really good idea, as the way I got my freaking spicy crap was by purchasing a pack called "Extract of the death" which contains:
Carolina reaper mash and powder
Trinidad Scorpion Moruga mash, powder and whole peppers (new pack has Carolina reaper whole peppers instead of this one)
Naga Bhut Jolokia Mash and powder
If it wasn't for that pack, I wouldn't purchase any of them, so again: its an really good idea.
It's insane that they never touched on the closing down of OpenIV, the ubiquitous modding program necessary for a majority of mods for the PC GTA titles. That's a pretty huge blow to the modding community, PC gaming, and could open a very in-depth discussion on the legality of modding and companies starting to monetize it.

Pitching an idea here for a future scrapyard wars. Perhaps a "Sleeper" build system. Looks like an turd tower, while crushing the benchmarks. Plus if someone breaks into your house and intends to steal something, highly doubt they'd want to take something that looks like it came out of the 90's.
Regarding your idea with famous-ing the most insane build - I thought it might be cool if you invited a few youtubers/ other people with connections to a challenge on what can you get your hands on for a benchmark faceoff. Then each individual will film their machine with some specs, glamour shots and results and you combine it into a competitive theme thing.
Rules: Must be able to get on the individual's property (No Linus you cannot use the new supercomputer you have been teasing the crap out on), you run a set type of benchmarks (as always).
And as ever - you guys rock, keep it coming!

2004 and 2007 were both great years for games. Don't think there's been a year like either since.
There should be a new way of ending scrapyard wars where there is an extra aftermath episode where the audience gives the winner. That way small differences in performance or large difference in looks can be accounted for and the result will be somewhat less controversial. It would also add an awesome ending episode with reactions and discussion.
Linus was wearing one of his 'LinusTechTips' shirts during the entire scrapyard wars. He even went to say the guy in the computer shop he went to was being way too nice. Obviously, he knew exactly who Linus was.

correct me if I'm wrong...but the monitor's reflection on the spektrum glasses is mostly blue or with a bluish tint... so that should mean that the glasses are reflecting the blue light off the glasses and away from their eyes (dunno how to explain what I mean but you get the idea) wich means they're actually legit...
