Gotta stop mom shaming, the thing about all families is you gotta decide what cost you’re gonna incure. Things can cost money, energy, and time. And what do you prefer to spend those things towards? There’s no wrong answer as long as the family is happy.

    • @Banyo__

Thank you for saying this. Some people are literally offended by this, but it's her family and her money. Nothing she is doing is affecting them and she didn't say, this is what you should do, she said, this is what we do. I swear, internet, take a chill pill.

Mum shaming is always so horrible. I’m not one but at the age where most friends have had their first. I never plan to have children but the Mum shaming just reinforces that decision, completely.
Y’all are the perfect shoulders to lean upon one another yet the toxicity that comes through instead is disgusting… And it somehow perpetuates the problem more. 😢

Always lots of fruit packed for road trips and of course beef jerky! Homemade trail mixes are super healthy too!

In my family growing up, going on vacation was a HUGE deal. It usually only happened once a year, and it was always to a family or friend who was offering for us to stay with them, so that was one cost down. We always drove (so never went out of the country), and one of my favorite memories was honestly my mom packing up sandwiches, drinks, mini breakfast box cereals, and snacks for the road trip. Back then rest stops were a thing, so it would be fun to get out and run around and play for a bit before our homemade lunches.
To this day, on our family road trips, or when I roadtrip by myself or with friends, I or we still pack our lunches and snacks and breakfast items to cut costs, and we find out local places with coupon or discount deals on meals and spend the bulk of our money on actual experiences, rather than just food, but we do splurge on 2 or 3 meals.

When our whole family goes on vacay we're at least 12 people. (7 of which are kids, 5 of them under 10 yrs old) We always make that free breakfast last, taking things like cereal, muffins, bagels, for snacks later in the day. Usually it's a cooler lunch (sandwiches, fruit, easy stuff) and we bring out buy grocery store food and cook in our hotel room for dinner. We rarely ever do sit down restaurants. It saves so so so so so much money, even if you're a couple n not a big group, you can save that $ for other things, rides, games, shopping. I've never felt like I've missed out by doing it this way, in fact I feel more free to splurge on boardwalk popcorn or an overpriced but cool experience kinda thing. Usually I'll remember those experiences over sitting down at a restaurant for an hour. Maybe it'll change as the kids get older and we go to a restaurant 1 or 2 evenings, but for now it works.

I love this! Unfortunately I see people saying they can't do it because they want to enjoy the food of other cultures (ostensibly since they're oh-so "foodie"..) so first of all:
She clearly stated verbally and in the title that they took the kids to the *Florida Keys* - so they weren't visiting a different country or culture - just a different location.
And more importantly, there is no reason that you can't enjoy great food in other cultures *or* locations while still saving money and being frugal about how, when, where and why you choose to buy your food.
These kids got a fun vacation with great, delicious, filling breakfast at the hotel, and then got to eat out later on. They obviously had time and made some great content and family memories without wasting money they may need for the future. It's a shame so many people seem to think that eating expensive food is more preferable than the wise the stewardship of their families time and finances, especially during a recession.
This woman is a treasure. ❤

But, we also got groceries to prepare in the hotel room and that was fun too because well we still bought food we didn't eat at home. And a lot of times we would like have an indoor picnic in the hotel room. And those free hotel breakfasts, my siblings and i thought those were the best especially if they had a waffle maker. Even as adults when my siblings travel together we still do this.

There is absolutely a point in going out even on a budget. You're being a bit ridiculous. There are plenty of reasons to travel outside of food. There are so many other experiences other than just going to a new restaurant that can be had on a vacation. Traveling with 6 people can be every expensive. If an average meal is $20/person, that's already $120/meal, $360/day for three meals, and $1800/for five days without even adding tax and tip. That $1800 could go towards seeing a show, museum trips, adventure parks, etc.

    • @Banyo__

@main7854 that's really my point...all she told you is how she and her large family save money, not how you should vacation. People seem so hot and bothered by that or imply that that's not how to vacation. It absolutely is if that's what you can afford. One shouldn't have to stay home if they don't have a ton of money "to vacation correctly" according to how someone else does it. Anyway, I'm not fighting over a vacation. Seems antithetical to the proposed purpose. Enjoy life for you, k.

It's about picking where you are spending your money. Some people prefer to find ways to cut down on food cost. Which means they have more money for activities. Or could be used to an extra night at the hotel. I've learned that even though I like going out on vacation. I'm able to do more if I cut out having to pay for a meal or two a day.
Which one of my favorite vacation activities is a food tour. Which isn't the cheapest way of eating. But it at least a 4 course meal. Trying things that I wouldn't have picked. And for whatever reason. The tour guide is more enjoyable than any other.

Real talk though. Rainbow sugary cereal, hot dogs, french fries and pbj as meals for children they have to eat for days? You go to aldi and you can’t provide vegetables, chicken, proper fruit? You are going to ruin your child’s- a growing organism, metabolism and health and that is not the place to be an absolute cheapscate in.
This comment is coming from first-hand experience as I was raised by a parent who had the same mentality as this woman in the video. And ended up in the hospital needing a blood transfusion, because I collapsed on the street, as my iron-levels were critically low, vitamins too- also I was overweight.
Like, french fries, burgers and a happy meal was considered restaurant food, that my brain still associates ‘happiness’ with.
Only after I got monetarily independent and could cook for myself, is when I got used to eating actually hearty and healthy foods.
A child is not some random tamagochi-like being you throw a plate of plain tater tots on the table or a saugage in a bun and call it a day. Do better.

I used to go to the nearest Micky Ds
2 kid meals and a small meal for me kept us well fed untill dinner . I only get in trouble when I trusted someone to take 3 pieces of peazz to my husband while he was surf fishing . Later the person told me when he was an adult that the piazza didn't make it to him because he droped it after a nasty remark he made because he didn't like the words he said about me .Oh Well 😂😂😂

I think it’s obvious u have no idea how to give ur kids the nutrition they need to fuel their body. It’s the most important thing u can give ur child.
Cereal, pastries etc . How about meat and cheese and veggies and eggs ?

I'm glad i was never fed like this as a kid, my mother's area of splurging was always the food, it always made me feel respected as an individual at the table being able to order from the actual menu rather than being made to order from the kids menu like I'm subhuman.
Eating good food also encouraged my cooking skills, I wanted higher quality food more often and i wanted ethnic dishes my family didn't know how to make so i learned to cook it myself. It opened my mind up to other cultures and I think would have gone to culinary school if i wasn't already doing a biology degree.
